Picked up at Radio Shack yesterday for $100 off regular price, Magellan Roadmate 2000. Was going to get lower priced one but wasn't in stock and this one had the best customer rating. Just programmed in home location but went for drive earlier and is neat just to watch it show where you are at. Getting ready to install it on top of dash next to radar detector. Anyone else use Magellan?

how does it compare with what navi RL's come with?
how does it compare with what navi RL's come with? The biggest plus... portability. A GPS unit is in my future, not sure of the brand yet.

I've got the same model. Bought it from Costco.
It's pretty cool, but has limited POI's and doesn't do Text to Speech. I've found it incorrect a few times, but most of the time it's accurate.
Can't really beat the price and the features. I may end up returning it though for a higher end model with more POI's and the Text to Speech.

I've used the Garmin StreetPilot C340 for a year now and would recommend it. They really have come down in price since I bought.
Check them out and read the reviews at http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Streetpilot-Portable-Navigation-Traffic/dp/B000A5TAT2/ref=dp_return_1/104-0705290-8548707?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics

I have NAVI in the RL, but also have a TomTom GPS (out of England, now marketing in US). TomTom has great units - more of a 3D perspective than the basic top-down view. Their maps are very accurate (in my experience). We use the portable GPS in the Ody, our RV and Rental Cars when traveling.
IMHO, the RL NAVI gets points for being integrated, voice activated and such. I much prefer the display while driving of the TomTom, and it does not give me any of that "Your Route involves Unverified Roads" crap. My entire town is unverified - very annoying. That said, the RL NAVI obviously has a larger screen which is easier on the touch-screen input.
No clear cut winner - but if I could get the RL NAVI to incorporate the graphical stuff from my TomTom I'd be in heaven...

I'm currently on my 3 Magellan. 1st was a Roadmate 700 that worked well for the first 8 months. It began to go thru a 'warm up' procedure that lasted 4 minutes, than 40, than 45. I returned to Costco and purchased the Roadmate 760. ( I later found out that you shouldn't store the GPS in the car during extreme cold and hot conditions)
Again, it worked well with a minor problem. The touch screen was occasionally missing the intended button. ( I wouldn't have returned it for that problem).
But, coincidentally the Roadmate 6000T was on sale at Costco.
I've had the 6000T for about 2 months now and I'm very happy with it so far. The new model has many PROS, but the one CON I will mention is the battery. I wish it didn't have it. The battery needs to be fully charged so pairing the bluetooth will work.
The best improvement is the windshield mount. The mount on the 700 and the 760 was very flimsy. The mount for the 6000T in very strong and doesn't require you to rest the unit on the dash for a steady view.
Hope this helps..

I myself have been very satisfied with my Garmin unit. I've had it for about 4 years, so it's not the latest/greatest, but it has gotten me across country several times, and into far away cities to a specific address several times - but of course, that is what they are supposed to do. Because its portable, it has been used in many different vehicles, by several different people. If/when I need another one, it will be a portable and likely from Garmin.
