Auto Start systemsBabeSlayer 03-06-2007, 10:13 AM does anyone know if you can have an auto start system but still use the clicker's on the factory key. Anyone have experience with this? mnchvgs79 03-06-2007, 10:26 AM After buying my RTL last week I went to like 3 audio shops and kept getting the same answer... Everyone said the factory remote will not function while the car is running, so I didn't get it done. If anyone else has a solution to this, I am all ears. k757 03-06-2007, 10:35 AM McNate01 has an autostart in his truck but not sure how it works Double-T 03-06-2007, 01:10 PM Agreed--factory remote will not function while the car is running--I have one in my ridge. Double-T hwycycle 03-06-2007, 04:57 PM Hey Double T, am I reading correctly.... you have a remote start in your Ridgeline? Where did you have it installed? Thanks xridgelinex 03-06-2007, 05:29 PM Yes, one can be installed and if you want the locks to relock right after it starts, it requires a special bypass system. Between the equipment and the extra charge to program the system, a basic $168 installed system runs around $400. I am located in the Albany, NY area and have used these guys... http://www.audioobsessions.com/index.html (http://www.audioobsessions.com/index.html) mnchvgs79 03-06-2007, 05:35 PM You can put a remote start in just about anything, manual transmissions included. Some vehicles the factory key will still work while the vehicle is running, so you just have a remote start button added and some require the use of an aftermarket remote for starting, locking and unlocking. From my understanding Honda's in general require the use of a full aftermarket remote because the stock remote will not function while the vehicle is running. The only car that I am aware of that there is no reasonable way to put a remote start in, is a Mercedes due to the fact that it has an infrared key, other vehicles require the loss of one key to be permanently installed under the dash. kameleon 03-07-2007, 10:41 AM i have a "combo" alarm and remote starter , all in one unit. i start the truck with my alarm remote, and i can lock and unlock the doors with the alarms remote with the truck running or not, i can also roll down the windows the the alarm's remote with the truck running or not( soon i will be able to roll them up too, i purchase the KP module.lol). also when i "arm" and "disarm" my alarm via the alarms remote , i also activate the Honda stock alarm features all at the same time. so i got 2 alarms activates at once = double the protection.:D mnchvgs79 03-07-2007, 03:07 PM I scheduled mine to be installed tomorrow... One of the perks of working at a car dealership, they're coming to me! :) RTXGuy 03-07-2007, 04:50 PM I'm heading down to Boch Honda this Monday to get my free remote starter. Make/model, unit cost, total cost after install, where you got the unit, who installed it, etc. Thanks. BabeSlayer 03-08-2007, 09:27 AM so even on a remote starter from Honda they still make it so your original keyless entry will not work, that seems a little stupid :( Cause i don't wanna carry that huge key and a seperate keyless/remote start thing :( thast frustrating if that can't be done Double-T 03-08-2007, 10:09 AM Hey Tom, Nice to see another fellow Staten Islander in the club. J&A on New Dorp Lane did the auto start on my Ridge. They also did the Dyno Electronic tailgate lock for me as well. They have been around for about 25 years and i've been using them almost as long. Never had a problem and they are reasonable when it comes to pricing.Give them a call and ask for Joe, Chris or Victor. Three brothers are the owners of this family owned business. Double-T VT RAIDER 03-08-2007, 11:16 AM I wanted a remote start; however, near my area the police are issuing fines for unattended cars that are running. After seeing the news on this subject most states have this rule but very few officers actually issue tickets. The fine is $168 per occurrence:eek: http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=93330&provider=top If this becomes an option from the manufacturer I think there will be several legal discussions forthcoming... Make/model, unit cost, total cost after install, where you got the unit, who installed it, etc. Thanks. this is the model i have wich includes a 2-way pager remore like in the picture http://www.drdetailshop.com/554r.htm? my friend owns a shop and he owed me 500$ so he supplied and installed this unit on my ridge and also supplied and installed a simple remote starter on my Dad's 5 speed honda civic. http://www.caraudio-caralarms.com/554r.html Andy-Montreal 03-09-2007, 07:15 AM General Motors has in fact begun offering remote car starters in select vehicles as of 2005. I'm curious to find out if the mfr's system has addt'l built-in security features such as monitoring sensors to further protect the engine should a fault occur within the loop. RTXGuy 03-12-2007, 02:45 PM Hey guys I'm back from getting my remote starter installed. Nothing much to say but it works just like any other remote starter I seen. Here is the one that the dealer put in for me: http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=16662&langId=-1 It was free so I can't complain. :) hwycycle 03-12-2007, 05:47 PM Thanks Double-T.... I'll pass by the shop and see what they have........ BabeSlayer 03-12-2007, 05:54 PM i still think its stupid i have to have a seperate brick than the huge key i have to cary already to have a remote start  haar 03-13-2007, 03:29 AM then dont get one. pretty easy. mnchvgs79 03-13-2007, 11:08 AM i still think its stupid i have to have a seperate brick than the huge key i have to cary already to have a remote start  Use your Valet Key supdawg 04-08-2007, 04:09 AM Here's a bump to an old thread. I just had my remote start installed today. Python 571XP. So far so good. Range is excellent. Total cost = 405$ from Circuit City. Need to get them to fix the "grind" program to prevent me from grinding my starter. RagingDiablo13 04-12-2007, 11:10 AM I have the Prestige Unit on my RL, Pilot & Prelude. Works great, great range (1000 feet). With the fob I can start the truck, turn it off, roll all windows down. With the truck running, the OEM Key won't work to unlock. I don't mind carring the extra key fob, it is very small and carbon fiber look. Nice in the winter, even better in the summer with a black truck, gets the A/C running. My neighbor works at a local install place, so he did the install on units. I only paid $150.00 per car, includes the hardware at $75.00 each. peterk814 04-12-2007, 12:03 PM After debating whether or not to put an auto start on my car, I spoke to Honda. As auto start whether installed at honda or not is NOT and OEM product, if the auto start damages your car in any way it is not covered under warranty. There have been various cases of the electrical system in many cars getting shorted out or damaged due to auto start. Repairs would definetely not be under warranty as you have voided it when you installed it. Just food for thought RTXGuy 04-12-2007, 12:16 PM After debating whether or not to put an auto start on my car, I spoke to Honda. If the remote start damages the vehicle, if it is the fault of the product, the manufacturer will pay, if it is the fault of the intallation, the shop will pay. This site has the most warranty fear I have ever seen. k757 04-13-2007, 10:59 AM This site has the most warranty fear I have ever seen.:rolleyes:Most people on this site would have a heart attack with what the average 2006+ Civic owner does. an air intake, an autostart system, new wheels? please, that is nothing. They mention things that I have no freaking idea what they are talking about. hahaha I am a geezer on that forum though. I think this fear comes from the average owner being older and not wanting to mess up the truck somehow; which is understandable. peterk814 04-13-2007, 11:50 AM BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the remote start damages the vehicle, if it is the fault of the product, the manufacturer will pay, if it is the fault of the intallation, the shop will pay. This site has the most warranty fear I have ever seen. If you ever get a manufacturer to pay for that sort of thing or the shop to pay for that let me know. I highly doubt they would do that. An autostart system is nothing but an electrical system that tricks the engine into starting. Why would you even want to go through the headache of contacting a manufacturer and complaining. I'd rather leave my honda warranty intact so that if something does happen they have nothing to blame it on other than factory defect. Again just my opinion obviously people are free to do what they want, I just thought I would warn people before they actually install it whithout knowing. RagingDiablo13 04-13-2007, 12:25 PM FYI... If you have your Honda Dealer install a remote start on your Honda, the dealership is taking on this responsebility, thus covered under your warranty. If you have someone else install it, it is NOT covered. supdawg 04-13-2007, 12:32 PM Ill take my chances. peterk814 04-13-2007, 01:12 PM FYI... If you have your Honda Dealer install a remote start on your Honda, the dealership is taking on this responsebility, thus covered under your warranty. If you have someone else install it, it is NOT covered. again very incorrect. If they damage your car while installing it, yes it is obviously their repsonsibility, if they install it and you use it a week later it is most defientely not under honda warranty. As any service center. It is NOT and OEM part, not designed to go with the Ridgeline therefore you are changing the electrical system of the car. You can definetely take your chances me personally id rather not, it was just food for thought. RagingDiablo13 04-13-2007, 03:03 PM There are many add on's that a dealership can add on to your HONDA. It does not matter if it is an OEM part or not, if the dealer installs it, it is covered. I just got off the phone with my Honda Service writer, word for word. I worked for this Honda/Toyota dealership for years. We would cover anything that we put on. | |
