Walking by all the new bikes on the way to the parts counter is always really fun for us, a little dangerous, but fun. The Can-Am’s, and everything from the “big four” have all the things you could possibly want in an ATV so you can’t go wrong. It is simply a matter of personal tastes. Have you looked at the new side by sides as well? My kid brother recently bought a new Yamaha Rhino and mounted two seats in the bed so four of us can go virtually anywhere the quads roam.
kanji 03-10-2007, 01:00 PM Ron, that is nice....its like a beefed up golf cart. Don't mind taking that to Palm Springs to play golf and then off road to a near by desert or Joshua Nation park :D

I have 2 Hondas, a Rancher ES 350 and a Recon ES 250 for the wife. We use them at our Hunting lease and they are excellent to get around on. Had an 88 Jeep Wrangler out there that would go anywhere anytime in any weather condition but my body finally surrendered:o
I also have a Polar Sport utility trailer that I pull behind them to carry feed, firewood, critters and gear and love it. It has ATV tires and is real quite compared to the metal ones you normally see.
What ever you get, I think you will enjoy it.
coloradorockin 03-12-2007, 09:16 AM I have 2 of them,,,a suzuki king quad and a yami 700 efi with power steering. I have found atving to be one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done. The king quad 700 has been rock solid with no issues,,,the yami is kinda new to evaluate but has not had an issue yet. Whatever you get you will have a blast on.

The yahama wins hand down as the best to date that has ever hit the market. The power steering is beyond amazing and the ride is great, very comfortable. I can steer in and out of anything and the engine braking blows me away. That being said the power band on the yami is better than the king but the kings topend is better. yami does about 64 mph where i can get 72 out of the king but why the hell would you ever want to go that fast anyway. The king is a good grand less expensive and has been around awhile which translates into all the bugs being worked out though i have yet to see any on the yami to date,,,There is a great websight to go to and you will find out all the information pros and cons on both as well as others NYROCATV.COM just go to the forum section,,,read away;)
BillH 03-13-2007, 01:06 PM I've got the Yamaha Kodiak 450. I have to say I really like the look and sound of the EFI 700 Grizzly. I took a Polaris 800 EFI out for a quick ride the other day and that was pretty sweet. I couldn't do much with it because the owner was still breaking it in. The thing I hate the most about it is the shift lever. It's about 3 feet long and difficult to move. I've also driven the 660 Grizzly and it was leaps and bounds better than the Kodiak. The thing that bugs me about the Yamaha ATVs are the many small plastic panels. They stop aligning and start buzzing after only a few months. I'd also suggest camo if you don't mind adding a few hundred to the bottom line. It seems that the camo just doesn't scratch.
Good luck in making your decision and make sure to post pictures!

Thanks for the link.Great ste with tons of info and photos. I really like the King Quad 700 but after reading everyone's reviews and opinions I may be sold on the grizzly 700. Is there anything I need to look out for? I want some bigger wheels so I guess a clutch kit. I will be hitting some mud but won't be submerging it like those guys on that site. Any suggestions on wheels and tires? How about an exhaust? I don't want anything too loud because I will be hunting with the Quad.
What is a good web site to buy atv stuff?

All of the Sportsmans are the same size from the 450 o the 800 EFI. 48x48x83 and they do fit in the Ridge. The one thing most don't realize is that the Polaris atvs are heavy the 450 is 715lbs dry. That's 115lbs more that the heaviest Honda.

Nothing but all out Honda loyalty in atv's on the RL site ;) . I'll give you the dependability part for those that choose to not do some regular maint. on it  . I raced Hondas for years (hare scrambles). The three wheel law suit really slowed them down for years. They only try to keep up with the others. Power steering is allready out their. And you cant put a little Honda 300 through EVERYTHING, then why did you buy bigger? Have you tried going through two feet of muck? Not two feet of dirty water. Probley have about 6" ground clearance to. I've seen them ALL get stuck and break down. If your going to be serious get a winch and better tires. They have some good atv's but most others blow them away for now. Especially in the utility department. You need to take a more serious look at the competition. Their are more sites on the internet besides this one. O yea they do have a nice soft seat . I've graduated to the UTV class and I can go where atv's can only dream of and with alot of gear ;) .Sorry, Yamaha owner, been waiting more than four years for Honda to make one. Can you here me HONDA your four years behind in the UTV's also.

BBQRidge 04-07-2007, 10:32 AM NorthernLights,
Those are 14" wheels on 27" muslites XTR's.
Chris,
There are a few places around here. Some places ou have to know someone to let you ride through their yard to get to the trails. Frances Marion Park about a 30 minute drove has about 30 miles of trails and a new place on the other side of Columbia called Carolina Adventures just opened up and it is strickly for ATV's and is about 100 miles of trails, rivers and streams to cross along with cabins to stay overnight. I am not sure of the size of this place but I heard it is impressive.
Outfitter 04-17-2007, 10:35 AM I brought my Honda Rancher in from deer camp this past weekend to get a recall done on the shift sensor. The RL does great hauling it and I don't have any problems getting out of camp to the main highway which is almost a mile through a rocky creek bottom and some nasty mud bogs. :D
I really need to invest in one of those quarter eating car washes though.;)
Jenskp 04-28-2007, 04:10 PM I love my Polaris Sportsman 450, even though since I had it I realize I'm not as young as I used to be. The next couple of days my muscles are worn out from avoiding all the trees too big to run over. The Polaris's are very heavy, 715 lbs for my 450. They are also very big 83" long and 48" wide. Anyway I figured you guys would like to see it in the Ridge.

Thanks Outfitter. I actually DO have it in writing. In the Fathers Day card she gave me, it said I was the best dad so I should go ahead and get the best atv (800) :D .
The first ride last night was a flop however. I'm in a little Idaho town called Rexburg. When I first started thinking about getting an atv, everyone I talked to said there are trails everywhere. Well, I load up the family last night about 5pm and go pick up the bike and set out to find the spot that Rexburg Motor Sports recommended. My bride and I have a blast running around our 2000 acre deer lease, although she still gets lost if I go too fast and she misses a turn. She is major "directionally challenged", even with a topo map, a satellite photo and a GPS. She wants me to put up "street" signs at every trail intersection.

Hi rwaits,
You're 2005 Polaris Sportsmen 700 has a wheelbase of 50.75 in. and a dry weight of 992 lb. it is also 47.0 wide.
The Ridgeline is has a cargo area that is 60" long and 49.5" wide between arches.
While it would be a tight fit I'd still recommend a small flat bed trailer. Hope this helps and welcome to the ROC.
ockbob 10-10-2007, 09:53 AM If the dimensions from 5S DUDE are correct, it should fit with the tailgate down. I haul my Suzuki Eiger 400 around all the time which isn't much smaller. Haven't had any issues with the tail gate.

The arches are the tale gate opening? the narrowest point with the gate down? seeing all you guys with these big ATVs loaded up I'm hoping I could get a go-kart in there easy.

thanks,
I had to haul my kart recently. If you take the sidepods off, the front end will roll in and the rear wheels rest on the tailgate (down of course) and hit the corners of the inside of the bed. I just looped a couple of ratchet straps around the rear axle and up to the lower front tiedowns and one across the seat hooked to the lower back tiedowns.
scott6428 10-11-2007, 12:07 PM Thanks, my rear is about 49.5 as the max width according to the rules is 50 inches, so I was wondering if it might squeeze in. My kid's kart is 48 inches at the rear.
I'm also looking at the Toyota Tacoma as it's bed is longer and wider but it has wheel arches that narrow the bed to 42 inches. I'm thinking pods off and maybe even have to put a brace accross, so I think score another point for the Ridgeline.

I've still got my old Honda ATC 250. I havn't been able to take it out in about 3 years since I didn't have a trailer hitch on my car and didn't have a truck. That should be remedied this week.
I've always had a blast riding the ATC, and when we use to go riding every weekend without fail I would take it about 90% of where everybody else took their 2 wheelers and quads.
I'm now thinking of moving up to a quad of some sort in the near future.

Oddjob 11-24-2007, 08:21 PM I just came by a 1995 TRX300EX Honda 4 wheeler. Very little use and it sat a few years in gagrage. Rust in the tank, carb needs cleaning, I'll replace the hoses soon, but it ran great the past two days that I needed to use it. Now I need some advise on where to get cheap parts?
ocb_dave_ocb 11-24-2007, 08:43 PM I bought a 2007 Honda Recon 11-9-07. The wife is going to be riding it eventually, and I will be buying a rincon or a foreman

Cheap parts? I would think ebay is a good place. The Honda bikes are tough, and I have ridden them for years, but recently I switched to Polaris and I just love it. The ride is sooooooooooo much better.
That 300 is a tough bike, so it will serve you well.

Rodarbal 01-10-2008, 01:07 PM Sorry to bump an old thread with my first post, but do any of y'all ride sport quads? More specifically, will MX-width sport quads fit in a RL? This is to help me determine whether or not I really want a RL. I'm thinking 49.5" will be cutting it a bit close.
northernlights 01-10-2008, 03:09 PM With tailgate down opening is 49 and 1/2" wide. Just measure your quad. You can also find other offset wheels the might work on the quad and fit in the box of the RL.
