honda fanatic 06-15-2005, 09:55 PM I just put a refundable deposit on an RTL-S/R including destination, mud guards, and pinstripping for $31,500. It was hard to get them down to that price. I tried haggeling based on what some fellow ROCer's received in my area and that was the best price I got. They wanted some evidence of such good deals other than the handouts I had shown them. They wanted actual sale write ups.
I still want to add the lifestyle package (tow, roof rack, bed extender), the interior trim kit, and the Honda Care Warranty. I'm not sure if I sould look for better? Is there anyone in the Virginia area that got a great deal that can PM me with their dealer contact and what they paid? I am just not sure. Any advice would be great.
meanmachine19 06-16-2005, 07:30 AM Fanatic, I think you got a good deal going. I bought my RTL with s/r (no mud flaps or pin striping) for $31,492 at the end of April. I live in Arizona so I doubt it will help you any, but I bought my RL from Tempe Honda. And I know there are others from the VA area on the site.
Look around the site and see what you can get the Honda care warranty for thru this site, might be cheaper.
Also, it's pretty costly to have any accessories added at the dealership. You might want to shop around or consider installing some yourself. There's lots of threads on installing certain accessories. In the long run you will save more.
Good luck.

I'm in Central VA and paid sticker nearly 3 months ago so a $1600+ discount sounds good to me. I'd take it and run. I hope you enjoy your Ridgeline as much as I do.
absame 06-16-2005, 12:11 PM Just signed up yesterday for an RTL w/o sunroof for $100 over invoice in NYC burbs. Options would have added more profit but dealer is fine if I take it stripped. Sent internet quote request to about 20 dealers in a 1 hour radius then went from there. Even got a good trade in value. Nice thing is you get email as proof if you need to back up offer.
EBone 06-16-2005, 12:30 PM Paid sticker for my RTL/Navi/Moonroof about two months ago here in San Diego. No dealers in the area were discounting below sticker and most were asking for a premium over sticker or adding overpriced accessories.
I remember when the PT Cruiser made its first appearance a few years ago some people were paying up to $5K over sticker. Same thing with the BMW Mini.
Any price you paid for a vehicle this new to the market is a good deal!
STEVE FROST 06-16-2005, 12:57 PM I have refrained from commenting on pricing up to this point. Buying a car is always a pain, some people such as myself get some satisfaction in making the dealer squirm as much as they try to make us squirm. Others are not comfortable in these nogotiations and do not push that hard.
Horse trading is an old art, they beat you up for the highhest price you push for the lowest. They may give you a good deal on the new car and lay you away on your trade. The bottom line is are you happy with the car you purchased. Anybody can go on line and find out what invoice cost is, its up to the individual to determine how much he is willing to fight to get near or below that number.
If you keep your car for five or more years, the difference in the price you paid compared to the next guy disapears in the noise.
I love my truck if I paid $1000-$1500 more for it I would still love it.
Discussing the price you paid with out disclosing what you recieved for you trade, does not not mean anything.
Furthermore it could add to buyers remorse, it like conversation about how good your spouse is in bed.
Its better just to keep you mouth shut and enjoy your spouse. Just drive your Truck and enjoy
Steve
maybearidge 06-16-2005, 01:23 PM yeah...we've been discussing this since they came out on the ROC. I do see one common thing here - the prices are a lot lower than when I got mine. Great deal for all of the new would-be owners!!
And....everyone seems happy no matter what they paid because it is a great vehicle!......except for the wind noise......and the peeling paint...and the door locks.......and the trip computer :D
shovelhd 06-16-2005, 01:40 PM It's human nature to compare. It's also a competitive human trait to always want to win. So I understand why people are so fixated on how good a deal they got. I have no problem with people making it one of the most popular topics here.
My only point is that everybody's deal is their own deal. What works for me may not work for you. If it works for both of us, then who cares what we paid. Every deal should be looked at within the context of when and where it was made. If dealers were universally selling at $100 over invoice in March at release then there wouldn't be half of these threads. The market has changed drastically since introduction. Nobody should feel bad about their deal because somebody paid less than you did a few months later. And nobody who bought yesterday should feel superior over someone that paid MSRP in March.
arteegee 06-16-2005, 02:31 PM If you wouldn't even consider paying MSRP, consider buying something else. This may not be the "right truck" for you. ;)
maybearidge 06-16-2005, 02:51 PM I look at these posts as more of a buyer vs. dealer forum. I know that there are great dealers out there, but a bunch will take advantage of your wallet if you leave it open. These posts are a great tool to see where the market is with sales of the Ridgelines. Like I've said before, you work hard for your money, you deserve to spend it wisely.
On a side note...if we are all on this website all day, then maybe we are not working hard for our money! :D
If you wouldn't even consider paying MSRP, consider buying something else. This may not be the "right truck" for you. ;)
Hmm, blindy paying for something doesn't make sense. However, I know what you meant, it's a object of affection. I was ready to pay MSRP, why didn't I buy earlier, I wanted a specific color combo but I think waiting 3 months wasn't bad and I wasn't in a hurry. I say if you can swing a deal go for it. I've said here that I got a deal but what I haven't said is that I didn't go for the best deal. I had a dealer in Marin who offered me 30,999 on a silver rtl-navi. I didn't want silver. The day I negotiated my price on the truck I wanted, I choose a dealer that was going to charge me $250 more. Why did I choose that dealer, cause they're a honda dealer with a good rep and long history here in the Valley. Oh and this RL only had 5 miles on her, the other would have 60 ~ 80 miles by the time I got her. It's the small things and as everyone has said, 'do what feels right for you'. This is one vehicle that'll put a smile on your face :D
RidgeOwner3 06-16-2005, 03:04 PM I bought mine the 2nd day they were out, March 2, at MSRP. Could I have gotten a better deal? Maybe, maybe not. But I would not have been able to sleep until I had bought it, and that would've killed me. So I take my health along with my lighter wallet and keep on truckin'!
BTW, it's still worth every penny I paid, which was cash and no trade!
ROColorado 06-16-2005, 05:17 PM If you bought a Ridgeline you probably got a good deal. Whether or not you paid too much for it, is really something you have to decide. Everyone has their tradeoffs. I went to a local dealer with the best internet deal I could find and he came within $500 of that so I gave in and bought local. I'm still happy.
RTL44 06-16-2005, 07:52 PM If you wouldn't even consider paying MSRP, consider buying something else. This may not be the "right truck" for you. ;)
I don't get this at all. Why should someone not want to pay less than MSRP? There are people all over the country paying invoice or less for the RL. Are you implying that people who want a fair or good price aren't "worthy" of a Honda, or was this just tongue-in-cheek and I missed the intent?

maybearidge 06-16-2005, 07:58 PM dang!!! less than invoice?? I was had!!
Somewhere in the news there was a story about a guy who spent a whole week trying to bargain for everything he bought...he started with a hot dog vendor. It's very comical if you can find it. :D

Read it again. If you still don't get it, your interpretation may be off. I never said I paid MSRP, but I certainly considered it. I didn't know this site existed till after I bought, so no one advised me what to pay. I shopped and researched and once I had seen all colors, my wife and I made what I still consider a great purchase. If you paid less than invoice, which I seriously doubt, then good for you. I'm not implying anything. I think the RL is worth every penny you paid for it. If not, you bought the wrong truck regardless of the price... ;)

Can't disagree than it's all relative . . . but for the sake of any friends we might be advising on where, when, etc. on buying a new Ridgeline: If you went a few miles north, you could get what I thought was a great price, but that's if you are shopping via internet. I got RTL quotes from several dealers in the San Diego county area (started my query via Edmonds.com), and got competetive pricing back from Escondido & Temecula dealers, with Poway running a close third. All were willing to go 800 under sticker initially (prices included destination charges). I got both Temecula & Escondido to go $1500 under & then just picked one. No trade in, no financing, no accessories or paint protection, etc. I specified the model (color, etc.) I was looking for & they went out & found one & traded for it (from another dealer). I think the key is getting out as many solicitations as possible & working the most willing dealer via their internet sales manager. It seems to me that the dealer that has more inventory is the one that's going to make you the deal . . . it's all supply & demand.
I'm offering this info on the premice that it might help a friend of a friend (not in the spirit of "contest" as some postings have implied might be the only value in sharing purchase price info). Happy with mine regardless.
meanmachine19 06-17-2005, 07:34 AM It's critical to research and have sources like this site. My close friend was going to buy a RTL three weeks after I bought mine, and thought I got the best deal I could.
He went to a different dealership and fortunately the deal was not a done deal. They basically were selling him the truck at MSRP. He's not into researching as much as I am and has a tendency to be an impulsive spender. I got him to cancel the deal, went to my sales guy, and saved my friend $2,100. That's what it's all about, saving. Could my friend have gotten a better deal if he were a haggler - maybe. I basically haggled for him (and I am not the greatest at this), got a better deal for his truck than I did for mine a month earlier. And I was able to do so thanks to the posts on ROC.
And now, members are buying at prices even lower than what we bought his truck for.
When you buy brand new (first three months) it's not as easy to get a deal so everyone is satisfied at their own level at that given time. I was when I bought mine on April 30th, but if I were buying today, I would not settle for that price knowing others are selling cheaper.
That $2,100 savings put more accessories on his truck. And, I got $100 for referring him (can't complain about that).
So, as of the original posting, I believe Honda Fanatic is getting a good deal at this time, but there will always be someone else out there that's gonna get a better deal than you. Like someone said, its not us against us, its us against dealerships (the ones that want to rip people off).
mailman2000 06-17-2005, 08:54 PM I paid $33,192 including TTl with roof rack, tinted windows, mud flaps, int. sealer and paint sealer. It took we 3 weeks to get this price.
