Hi,

I test drove two RTLs the other day and both seemed to have very week air conditioners. It was 95 outside which is a cool spring day here in South Texas. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks!

 I am in tucson, Az and it was 107 today( according to my in dash temp gage) and I wish tha ac had a little more kick but after 5-8 minutes of steady driving it starts to work good and after 15 minutes I turn it half way down.
I do not have any window tinting or sun screen and that affects the interior temp because it is parked in the sun all day.

Florida gulf coast here. I wish my GMC van's a/c worked as well as my Ridge. I seem to be very comfortable in just minutes.

I live in South Texas as well and my A/C works very well. Yesterday the themp. got up to 101 and the humidity was high as well. My A/C works great and cools down very quickely. No complants here.

EVERYBODY needs to realize the fact that r12 is no longer used as a refrigerant in vehicles made for the US. The days of having COLD air come out of the vents on ANY new car are gone. I personally thought my Ridge was very cool compared to my Honda Passport (made by Isuzu).

Ditto!! I have no problems with the air.

You are right about R12 being banned in most countries, including the USA. However, R134 (the ozone friendly freon) is very close to R12 properties (within 1 or 2 psi suction pressure). If you can get 30 to 40 deg F drop in the cab, your AC is doing a great job. :)

if you have a thermometer that you can use to put in the vents, run the ac on med low or low for about 5-10 minutes while driving. if temp is 57 or below, air is cold and doing fine. (sorry, forgot to mention to turn ac setting on the "LO" setting as well) if you can, try this and it will ease your mind. ;)

My air works like a champ even through our little mid 90's heat spell, in fact it may work better than some as the white paint does not hold the heat like darker colors do !! YEAH !! WHITE ROCKS !! :D

Uh... yea my air works good :)

I am very satisfied with the A/C. The other day was very humid, I had the A/C blasting with recycle on. When I got out of the truck, my glasses fogged over to the point I could see nothing!

My AC works great in the Heat and Humidity of the south. Never once crossed my mind about the AC not cooling well. so it's good

Absolutely no issue with my Ridgeline keeping me cool. In fact, I need to turn the vents around the steering wheel to keep my hands from freezing.

Maybe you experienced a couple of trucks that had been sitting in the sun, maybe w/moonroofs exposed? It could take a long time for ANY A/C system to cool-down a vehicle whose interior components became completely "loaded-up" with heat.

True, if your truck has been in the sun and is extremely hot in the interior you may want to crank that air way down and open the rear window and lift the sunroof if you have one to let heat out. This may help cool it down faster.

absolutely.......i leave my door open, roll window down and turn ac up when i first enter my rl after sitting in the sun...........very prudent and affective approach to cooling that sucker off before shifting into drive.......then i can turn the air down to low fan and im on my way.

Don't forget the helpful cool-down quick tip built right into your ignition key!

Press once to unlock driver's door, press and HOLD the second time to unlock the passenger doors AND roll down all the windows.

This works if you put the key in the lock and unlock the doors the old fashioned way too.

Question from the Big Sky state....WHATS A/C :D

I like the feature that if you hold the unlock on the remote it rolls down the windows. I live in Houston and I have sat in my Ridge and the temp guage was at 102, if you roll the windows down and let out the hot air. i have noticed it cools way faster. Good luck.

I want a vehicle with GREAT A/C. I finally learned several years ago that the color of the vehicle makes a huge difference. I now buy only light colored vehicles and have not had a bad A/C since.

A few years ago I purchased two VW Jetta TDI's for my kids. One was silver the other black. My son (the black car) always complained about the A/C. I drove them and agreed with him. We took his car back to the dealer several times. Once we even took both in to compare side by side.

In the shade of the repair shop the two performed EXACTLY the same. Cooled to the same temperature, had same high and low side pressures, etc. I never believed that the color of the car could make such a difference, but that proved it to me.

On the hottest days the black car would never get cool enough to turn down the A/C. Not comfortable to me at all. The silver one worked great... had to turn down the A/C after a few minutes.

Try this test on a dealer's lot on a hot day. Walk down the aisle of cars and put your hand on a sunny spot on a white car. Then do the same on a black one. You can't hold your hand on the exterior of a black car on a hot sunny day, but the white one is not bad at all. That's the difference between a good A/C and a bad one most of the time.

I'm a Ridgeline owner in Texas and just returned today from 50 degree temps in upstate NY. But when I got in my Ridge at the Texas airport the outside temp reading showed 103 at one point. My air conditioner works great even on these hot days.

However, I may have an advantage due to a couple of factors. First, although I may prefer other colors, I went with the silver RTL because of the very factor cismo talked about. Experience has taught me the same thing, at least here in Texas - the darker the car the harder it is to cool during the extreme days of summer.

Second, I have always been a believer of window visors. The ability to crack the windows a bit without fear of soaking the car if a storm hits while you are in the mall can make a world of difference. I have always had visors and always will. The Honda visors are like $150 and the Lund Eclipse equivalent are $58 shipped at Amazon.com. The Lunds are quality products and much easier to install than the Honda versions, although both are in-channel design. They cut down a bit on wind in the face when driving with the windows cracked or all the way down and look great too. I would highly recommend these visors on all four windows even if you don't live in a hot climate.

And if you're paranoid like I am about windows being left cracked (having lived in Chicago for many years) you just pop the sunroof (or the rear window) and don't have to worry about any entrepreneur with a coat-hangar (we don't worry about rain in TX in the summer!). Hey, I *said* I was paranoid! ;)

I bought my RL in December and it just got hot enough to start using the AC.

When I first turn on the AC it smells like a stale refrigerator, the smell goes away after a few minutes. It seems to be cooling just fine.

Is this anything to worry about?

Thanks

I think that the AC is alittle on the weak side. Takes along time in Auto mode to come off recirc. But it does cool down eventually. Also the dark Amazon Green color does not help awhole lot.

The AC is alittle weak, that's basically honda, my previous honda usually have weak AC when you turn the AC on, but after a few minutes it gets to the right temp setting. My RL's AC feels good, cold when you turn it on even the other day, when it was 80 deg and had to use the AC. It was cold when i turned the nob down to Lo the air was cold. Hope it stays that way, and i will be tinting my driver/passenger side windows and leaving the rear stock. that should cut the heat down during the summer.

I am hoping for a chance to use my air this summer , we rarely get above the 70's here on the coast, yet 5 miles inland it could be 110 . I will say one thing though , I love the heated mirrors and seats and the heater is great .

The A/C in my RL freezes my a$$ off! Now, I don't have the "auto A/C air, mine is manual (RT model). Every car with "auto A/C" I have gotten in the past, are a pain. I like A/C when I want it, not when the computer tell the A/C to give me air. I like it as cold as it get here in hot Florida!

Where I live in Montana we get about one week of 100 degree F weather each year. I will have to wait until this summer to see how the air conditioning works. The heater works just fine! :D

Sunny south Florida was cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon today. I set the a/c on 74 and it cools down as dast a s the heater warms it up. The r-134 systems work well IF they are properly serviced. I work on many a/c units, both car and residential. My 95 Nissan was the 1st year they went to r134 and they did not size the evap and condensor correctly so I could never get the pressures right, hence the best I could get was 54 degrees. That does not get it here.....The Hondas that I have , all have the auto temp and work flawlessly !!

Bought my Ridge when I lived in WV, now I live in Florida. The A/C blows cold but I'm wondering if it is possible to improve the air flow from the A/C. My wife's Acura MDX will part your hair but my kids can hardly feel the air in the backseat of my Ridgeline on Full Blast. Could I replace my blower motor with one from an MDX and get a boost?

If you need more air FLOW, change the cabin filters. It can give great results for a little $$$.

07 RTS, My RL a/c is something to be desired, the fan blows plenty high, even from the center console/armrest, enough to where I have to change the direction of the vents away from me, however, I really dont think it gets near as cold as it should 58*? Would draining, refilling, and repressurizing help get it colder?? I already changed out the (TSB) wire harness blower motor, and installed new air and cabin filters. It just doesnt feel as cold as I think it should.

You don't have to use the "auto" mode of the climate control in the RTS/RTL. Of course if you don't use it, there isn't a good reason to pay for it.

I find the AC to be more than adequate, if not a bit quirky from time to time. I'm still not sure I have figured out the auto climate control 100%.

I don't use the auto mode, but sure like the dual climate.

It's been very humid 90's here in Ohio and while the air coming out of the vents feels very cold the cabin just doesn't seem to cool down enough. It is alot of cubic feet to cool, and I have the window cracked alot b/c I'm a dirty smoker. Also I think the temp I set the climate control to is a mind ****. I should just crank it down to 60 and see what happens but I'm stubborn in that if it's at 70 it should be good enough.
