I remember seeing a thread where someone made their own tool to install it. white07 03-14-2007, 01:09 AM I just installed chrome sidesteps on my RTL about a week ago. I ended up renting the tool from www.bernardiparts.com. The tool made the rivnut install very easy. The rest of the installation is pretty simple but a bit tedious; lots and lots of bolts to turn. I'm a little annoyed at the total rental cost. Twenty dollars for the rental is not that bad but the cost of 2way shipping adds about another $20.00. Forty bucks for a one time rental? Maybe I should have just let them keep my $70.00 deposit and kept the tool, even though I'd never use it again. As an alternative, you could try asking your dealer what they'd charge to just install the rivnuts, or you could try the homeade tool outlined in some other posts. Cheers, Erik mtrotman 03-14-2007, 07:01 AM I installed my step bars without using the tool. I found that quickly ratcheting the bolt while applying pressure provided enough grip for compression. Two years later the step bars are holding on tight after daily use. | |
