I am curious to know if anyone has installed the factory running boards without using the knurled rivets? It seems to be a lot of extra effort for just 2 of the 15 total bolts. Thoughts?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Andy-Montreal 03-14-2007, 09:57 PM None of the aftermarket companies such as Westin or Ares who manufacture side steps or other similar products that fit the RL use deformable nuts as is the case with the oem units. I agree that Honda's priority is safety but are they really needed? It's your decision.... tuff_kuffs 03-15-2007, 07:27 AM i used them in my install..i had one of the guys down at honda take two seconds to pop em in for me and then i went home and installed the rest... jakemanoo7 03-17-2007, 03:51 PM Three cheers to my dealership (Honda Superstore of Joliet) for installing the rivnuts for zip, zilch, nada, ZERO. Before I went I called the service department for a quote and they said about $25-$30...for the 15 minute job. When I got there, they were not very busy and I was in and out in less than 15 minutes...with no charge. They never even bothered to write it up....just handed me my key back and said have a nice day. Of course I did by the factory running boards at the same time so they probably figured that was good enough. Since I had a 20% off coupon, it ended up being the same price as H&A and others. ROTORRAY 03-17-2007, 06:17 PM Here's a site on this board where member Mike Kennedy has gratiously photo'd his solution to the install problem on the factory boards...Cost $1.something and is easy to fabricate... http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1360&highlight=install+running+boards:D ConqSoft 03-19-2007, 06:24 PM I just finished installing them on my RL and opted not to use the rivnuts. It's only for 1 bolt on each side, and doesn't seem to be necessary anyway. That's a LOT of bolts to put together. Thank god for my air wrench. :D | |
