Nice any word on how much they will cost.

They said the Full Metal version will be about $1,500 and the vinyl will go for about $1,000. But they also said the INET is the cheapest place to get them. He recommended autoanything or truckaddons.

I saw Pace Edwards post on another thread they can be found online for 735.00. Anyone know where this is?

And how far will the trunk open when it's installed?

I can't answer your question about the trunk opening.

You should check out the price from Real Truck, they are a sponsor of this forum, and seem to have decent prices. Check it out at the link below.

I ordered the regular JackRabbit from RealTruck.com yesterday, and got it for $680 (delivered) with the ROC discount code. The Full Metal version was a bit more, around $1000 I think, but don't quote me.

I've been reading the online instructions, and the install seems pretty straightforward.

One question I do have is about the drain plugs in the front of the RL bed. The install requires that you drill a 3/4" hole in the center of each plug for the drain tubes. The way the plug fits into the hole in the bed, and given where the drain holes are located, I'm not sure how this is going to allow water to drain properly.

For those who have installed the JackRabbit (or had to use the drain holes), can you comment on this?

All feedback appreciated...

Mike,

I'm thinking of the JackRabbit too. Let us know what you think. And how far the trunk will open against the rails.

Have fun installing your new accessory!!

Will do. I'm hoping to take some pics during install, but I may be too excited to hold the camera still :D Expected ship date is 8/16, so I may need something to help calm me down - like another RL accessory, of course ;)

Man am I confused. Had decided on the ReTrax, but not the Jackrabbit looks as good and a better price. What now?????

Hray,

I feel the same way. Trying to decide between the ReTrax and Jackrabbit. Price is one factor but I don't mind paying more for the ReTrax. One thing that I'm wondering about the ReTrax is that real glossy, shiny surface. On one hand I think it would look really nice, but on the other I'm concerned about scratches and such accumulating on it over time.

Decisions, decisions......!!!!

HELP:eek:

I'm only a month into the ROC family and I NEED good advice. The bottom line is this: RETRAX or JACKRABBIT. I've read the threads on both. There is more positive comments on the RETRAX. I realize that the JACKRABBIT is new and the verdict on it is NOT clear. Both RETRAX and PACE EDWARDS, who makes the JACKRABBIT are both ROC SPONSORS. I need more information from the ROC family. I will buy one, but the question is which one? Can any ROC family member do a complete honest comparison? I will be monitoring this thread. I will appreciate all the help given.:)

Thanks,

Lex Luthor:D

I called RealTruck.com today and requested a price on the metal version of the Pace Edwards jackrabbit. I told the sales clerk that I was an ROC member and the price that I was quoted was $1089.50 delivered to my door.

Lex Luthor

P.S. Is this an accurate price? The Retrax is cheaper.

That sounds right. I think the retrax can be had for about 900.00 delivered. But it's plastic, versus metal:)

The Jackrabbit original can be had for around 700.00 give or take. My understanding is it's all metal underneath (aluminum) with a vinyl cover. That might be what the starter of this thread ordered.

I'm still leaning toward the full metal version even though it's more money. From the pictures I really like the looks of it.

It looks like they gave you the price for the Full Metal JackRabbit...The JackRabbit is priced at $760.xx on their site, before any discount codes.

Guy's I don't know if you remember back 3 or4 months ago me and another member were waiting a long time for our f.m.j. Well anyway I just want to share with you all that the pace edwards full metal jackrabbit is by far the best looking, best constructed, functional bed cover out there, HANDS DOWN! I dont have a camera to take pictures of mine but I be honest with you, picture do the craftmanship and fiting no justice. What you need to do is find a retrax and all the other covers that are in question and You"ll clearly see what the right choice will be. It's a lot of cover for the money, and most importantly Eric from Pace Edwards is without a doubt the nicest guy to ever do business with. No regrets here. hope this helps you with your choice. you wont't be dissappointed. Also instulation took 35 to 40 minutes start to finish.

Bigguy,

This is what I got from the Retrax site:

"The RETRAX retractable pickup truck bed tonneau cover is unique because it is manufactured from polycarbonate, a durable thermoplastic commonly known as LEXANŽ."

It appears the cover is not metal. Sorry to disappoint. Let's post the facts.

I viewed the DVD put out by ReTrax. It's "Lexan/Thermoplastic....", in other words a form of PLASTIC.:D It does have metal rods inside every few inches for support.

Here is my answer in that personal message;

To be honest, I was between the Retrax and the FMJ and I am pleased that I got the FMJ. In the long run, I think the metal top is better then the plastic. A fellow at work has a five year old FMJ and it looks as good as mine. Color of the top stays a flat black.

The draw back of the cover is the strap that you pull on to close the cover. It seems like it is always in the way and they made it too long. However, the Retrax doesn't have a strap, but to open and close it keeps you walking back and forth around the swing open tailgate.

I have had stuff jambed up against the box that houses the cover and it being abs plastic showed no damage. Lastly, the install. If I haven't taken so long trying to get the siderails attached to the box (10 min.) and trying to screw in the last two screws (10 mins.) I think it would have been installed in a half hour (by myself). With a helper all you have to do is remove four screws and the whole thing (sides and box one piece) comes off. Ten minutes tops.

Thanks for the update! I had sent a personal message to the other member, and he agreed with you that it's an awesome cover:)

I stand corrected:o although it certinly looks like metal when you get a scratch or a paint chip:( And though it may not have a "pull strap" I don't need to walk around my tail gate to open and close it, I just stand by the side of my truck and open or close it with one finger(fact)
