I dont think anyone has seen this custom install job yet but its really nicely done I found it while searching the internet for some custom RL installs. It happens to be one of the guys that works at a shop called Auto Toyz and its in the gallery on JL Audio's web site.

ENJOY!!!

I wonder how good the sound would be with the tweeters mounted so low on the front doors? Thanks for sharing Anthony.

I wonder how the bass would be with the woofers firing up like that? Probably sounds like crap, the whole system that is...

wwho wants to see the crossovers anyway?

The crossovers are warm and cozy on the inside of the door panel, as opposed to mine which live in the door innards. Imaging should be very good with the tweeters next to the midbass drivers, and if the HU has time alignment to raise the image, so much the better. Upfiring .vs. downfiring subs are a religious issue. I prefer them downfiring, but that's not to say that you can't get good sound the other way. Those subs are a little underpowered anyway.

Up-firing subs is just really annoying for anyone who sits in the rear.

FYI: Sub bass frequencies really aren't too directional in a vehicle because their wavelength is so long. Down firing subs sound great, but you need ample space between the woofer and the floor. Too close to the floor and you wont be able to hear if there is any distortion. May not be bad to the ear, but distortion is an audio systems worst enemy. Just my 2 cents.

Hey I am actually very interested in putting a JL 12W7 and 1000/1 in my Ridgeline. I was thinking the best way to do it would be to design a center console for the back seat that would double as a down firing box for the 12W7. That or a replacement console for the front but I really like the arm rest and the storage of the factory front console so I think a back one would be best. The only issue I can for see is blocking the rear facing HVAC vents so that would have to be taken into consideration.
I also thought about if we could replace the "60" portion of our 60/40 split rear seat with another "40" portion there for making a nice perfect space for a rear seat console/sub box. With a down firing sub box this could be made to look and serve as a perfect center console!!

Would anyone like to help me with some R & D for this? As you can see I have really been thinking about it and am very interested.

I've also found another method of putting a sub in our trucks but its not for sale its a custom job. I have a step by step How-To from Car Audio and Electronics magazine. It was done by Steve Smith (Alpines Demo Car Team member) if you dont know who he is he's AMAZING. I will scan in the pictures and post them shortly...I am MECP and have a tiny bit of fiberglass experience and knowledge so I may try this as well.

As I promised another Subwoofer install I've found that I haven't seen anyone else mention yet....

Better picture of the final product!! I like this a lot but the bass in your face might be alittle annoying. For sound quality purposes though the bass up front is a great idea!

I'm thinking that enclosure is way too small for that sub, but who knows.

I don't think I'll ever "get it" with some of these installs. I have no desire to see my subwoofer. And the 4 prongs that look like they could be used to launch battling tops......

The door installs were nice except for the visible crossovers. The RL's factory speaker grills looks like crap because they are just molded plastic.

What is The Blue Man Group sub???? So no one is interested in helping me design a custom console? :D

What kind of help are you looking for? I'm not sure what you expect of us.

Personally I think the job looks great very clean and professional, I look forward to seeing more. If it looks that good then the sound has to be as well. As far as Chefelvis's comment is concerned I believe his mood must be JELIOUS.

Thanks, MegNAntsRidgeline, for posting those pics. Like them or not, it's always good to see what others are doing with their Ridgelines. Some people like to see different stuff at car shows. It's not always about the sound.

Stealth install vs. integrated install vs. showoff install.

What I would like to see is somebody take out the rear seats and redesign it totally. Since the storage below the seats are going to be filled with speakers and amps, why not design something that will be more useful for the sound enthusiast? I'm so tempted to do this. After owning a RL for nearly threee years, I have yet to think of using the storage space below the rear seats. All I have to do is disconnect two cables and take out the sub box. The possibilities are endless if you do this. Oodles of space when you think about it. When selling the truck, simply put the stock seats back in. There are enough mounting holes to make this a possibility.

Anyway...............

No conspiracy. No need to be jealous. Chef knows he has the best sounding system in a Ridgeline. I cannnot find the exact post, but it's there.

I have got about $9,000 in the ridgeline system. I don't think its the best ridgeline system anymore though. A year ago it probably was. As far as a stealth system, I like mine. The speakers are all hidden. Amps are hidden. The subwoofer box can't be seen. Everything is nice and clean. I might be changing out the zapco amp though. Any suggestions on a good subwoofer amp to push 2 10w6v2's?

Helix or Brax.

If you've got the cash, go for an Audison Thesis. Then nobody would be able to come close to your system now or ever.
