: Kia Considering Building Pickup for U.S. [4.6.7]
T Mac 04-09-2007, 05:15 PM Following earlier reports from Edmunds.com that Hyundai is studying the development of a pickup truck for the U.S. market, comes this statement from Kia Motors president Cho Nam-hong. "Isn't it time for Kia Motors to make inroads into the (U.S.) pickup truck market?" said Cho.

RLHopeful 04-09-2007, 05:41 PM Seriously that thing couldn't look more like a ridgeline... unless it actually was one.
SpartanML 04-09-2007, 05:45 PM 1 word.... UGH
ChrisM 04-09-2007, 06:05 PM It's a little Escalade, a little Avalanche and the rest is all Ridgeline. I guess imitation is one of the best forms of flattery.
shovelhd 04-09-2007, 06:25 PM Kia makes a solid vehicle. They will have an impact on the market.
jhedges 04-09-2007, 07:07 PM Kia makes a solid vehicle. Are you serious??
SpartanML 04-09-2007, 07:43 PM My sister drives an 03' Sorento... all kinds of electrical problems... so again I sau UGH
shovelhd 04-09-2007, 08:27 PM Yes, I'm serious. I didn't say perfect, I said solid.
The Ridgeline has certainly had it's share of problems. Let's not lose perspective here.
MDVE39 04-09-2007, 08:49 PM Bought a Kia for my kids to drive. Have never had it in for service, other than oil changes and 1 alignment. The car is solid, reliable, nicely equiped and you can't beat the warranty.
When it eventually comes out, I'll go for a test drive to just see it.
Kia and Hyundai are the new Toyota/Honda of the 80's
NW Geocacher 04-09-2007, 10:26 PM All of KIA's models look like other cars...they stole Jaguar, Lexus and Mercedes designs. Now it looks like the RL will have a imitator also.
jhedges 04-10-2007, 04:20 AM Read this then go buy yourself a Kia or Hyndai

shovelhd 04-10-2007, 05:36 AM So what? You could easily find twice as many Honda horror stories to publish. What exactly does that prove?
So what? You could easily find twice as many Honda horror stories to publish. What exactly does that prove? There are a few double Ridgeline owners here for the LEMON law on their first Ridge.
Funny thing is, the very first story (Mindy of Portageville NY (03/20/07) posted on the Kia link there was a complaint about a salesman/dealership on a used 2002 that she bought in 2007... gimme a break.

Yup, they may not have it perfected just yet but the Koreans are definitely coming on strong - and you can bet that the Chinese aren't far behind them! Just think, in 2015 you'll be able to buy a Chairman Mao pickup!
chisoxjim 04-10-2007, 07:52 AM yuck,
I wouldnt buy this truck, or any Kia/Hyundai for that matter. Just my humble opinion, no offense..

I bet you would have said the same thing about Honda in the late 70's. I think Kia and Hyundai vehicles are garbage but they are getting better all the time. Another decade and they will be on par with the other imports but their price will be there then too.
yuck,
I wouldnt buy this truck, or any Kia/Hyundai for that matter. Just my humble opinion, no offense..no offense taken. :D But if you turn back the clocks 25 years, people said the same thing about Honda. If companies survive teh first few years when they just stink, they will most likely make it.
For giggles, go drive the Hyundai Azera and report back on how horrible it is. It is the competitor to the Nissan Maxima and Toyota Avalon. Keep in mind that what comes standard on the $27k Azera is what comes standard on the $33k Avalon (ignoring the warranty). I feel like I am the Ford forum telling someone to go drive the Ridgeline and report back :D
Or do the same thing with the Hyundai Sonata V6 loaded and compare to the Accord EX-L V6 or the Camry V6 XLE.
chisoxjim 04-10-2007, 08:36 AM k757,
perhaps you are right, only time will tell.
k757,
perhaps you are right, only time will tell.who knows really... When Ford/GM have to merge to live on... the world is a-changin' If this happens, new company name? Forvolet? Forvy? Cherd? Chevord? hahaha
I have driven the Sonata V6 and the Azera and the bang for the buck is amazing, plus they handle and sound like quality, smooth engine with plenty of power and the interior feels good. When they refine their engine a bit more they will raise their mpg. Their SUV lines I can't comment on and their small cars are, well... small cars so they are better than average, but remain inferior to the Civic/Fit.
25 Year Honda Owner 04-10-2007, 09:18 AM When you look at the grill of the proposed KIA truck, sorta looks like Ford's answer to the Ridgline.

What else could it possibly be besides (drum roll, please) . . .
GENERAL FORD

GENERAL FORD
Hmmm... Maybe this General Ford (http://www.af.mil/bios/bio.asp?bioID=5438)?
Oh, you mean an automobile manufacturer? Well, check out the General Ford forum on the internet (http://www.big-boards.com/highlight/204/)...
Ford? Isn't that Volvo? (Ford tractors have, I am told, been owned by Fiat for quite a few years.)
