Dragonslayer 04-18-2007, 10:24 PM This coming May on the 26th is the second annual Northen California/ Central California meet. Six of us made the meet last year, vrtkr, dsowell, UglyTruckling, exA4, psango and myself. We met at the top of Mount Diablo at 11:00 am. Mount Diablo is just minutes from Concord, Antioch, Brentwood and Walnut Creek to name a few communities in the area. The mountain is 3849 feet tall and has a fantastic 360? view. On a good day you can see San Fransisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. On a very clear day you can see the Sierras, Mount Lassen and sometimes Mount Shasta, Yosemite and the Farralon Islands. Google Mount Diablo and pick a site to search the Mount Diablo State Park. Dogs are allowed on leash in camp grounds, in a vehicle and in a tent or vehicle at night. Overnight and weekend camping are allowed with a fee. There is a large overflow parking lot below the summit observatory that is large enough to accommodate as large a group as we could muster. I hope that we get a large turnout , at least from the bay area crowd.
methodtim 04-19-2007, 12:14 AM Ooooh, this is so tempting. I've been spending every free moment planning my wedding, which is coming up fast (June 16th). I'll see if I can make it. Please keep me posted on whether this is going to happen. :)
beepbill23 04-19-2007, 12:31 AM Being Memorial Week i cant say yes or no to this matter. I would love to go, since its only a matter of a mere 2 hours drive, soo close!! Most likely i would have to be the closing shift manager that particular weekend im sure of it, dang it!!
Ill keep ya posted martin!
Sorry if i cant say yes......DOH!
Billy
mwarren2 04-19-2007, 03:48 AM Hope to see you there Martin :D
Dragonslayer 04-19-2007, 11:57 PM I will be there, My brother in laws birthday is on that day and I and my family get together on that day, I have 2 brothers in Pittsburg and my sister, brother in law and my niece live in Vacaville. I will be going the day before and will camp out on the mountain overnight, that is what I did last year. It takes me a good five and a half hours to get there, 350 miles one way. I will be waiting at the second parking lot below the summit.
Dragonslayer 05-07-2007, 09:55 PM Nineteen days till the central cal meet at Mount Diablo. I am hoping for a good turnout considering that most of the members that I contacted have less than 50 to 100 miles to get to the park, some less than 5 miles. I have 350 miles one way. It is already hot here, 81? today on the coast and I think the record is in the upper 70's. It was 99? in the southern interior part of the county.
UglyTruckling 05-08-2007, 10:21 AM We're going to try to make it again....
Dragonslayer 05-16-2007, 10:08 AM Ten days till the meet. I may stay at one of my brothers house's in Pittsburg on Friday night if I can't make it early enough to camp on the mountain. Weather.com ten day forecast for Pittsburg is at 83? high and 56? for the low for the 25th and clear, sunrise should be5:49am and sunset at 8:20pm on Saturday. It is good viewing weather from the mountain top. I grew up in Pittsburg and went to the mountain on fieldtrips, with family and friends, I even went there by myself just to go there. The drive is awsome and a challenge for those not faliliar with old mountain toll roads, watch out for bikes, it is a popular bike trip. Last years trip, everybody when they got to the top noticed that their trucks fan remained running after parking and turning off the engine, do not panic, it is normal. I remember in the 60's when my step dad drove mostly beaters or pass on cars and they would overheat on the mountain road up to the top and we would have to pull over and get water from one of the creeks.
Directions to Mount Diablo State Park are on the thread in Meets and Greets.
Hope to see many new ridgelines and their owners and say Hi to those from last year.
Martin

beepbill23 05-17-2007, 01:17 AM Any possible Caravanning from the 580/680 area?
I did this post on the other thread fom the continuation of last years Mt. Diablo m n g. Also, wanting to know if any walkie talkies are being brought about?
Dragonslayer 05-17-2007, 12:40 PM Susan and Roger ( UglyTruckling ) live in the Livermore area if I remember and come from the 580/680 corridor. If I stay in Pittsburg with one of my brother's I may come up with Mike and Marylnn over Kirker Pass. Pm or e-mail Susan. See you there.
Dragonslayer 05-21-2007, 10:05 AM Five days till the meet. Now this week will probably drag along. I will be leaving McKinleyville early Friday to get to Mount Diablo before 12:30 pm. We will camp out at the Juniper camp site and be at the overflow parking lot at 10 am or earlier when the gate to the summit is unlocked at 8 am. So far the forecast is for clear skies with 56 at night and 83 for the day, not too hot or too cold. I live on the coast , so the 83 will be a nice change. It is not unusual for 56 to be our high during the spring and summer. I look forward to seeing those from last year and to meet the newbies that show up.
COME ON ALL OF YOU BAY AREA FOLKS, MOUNT DIABLO IS RIGHT IN YOUR BACKYARD, IT IS ONLY A HOP, SKIP AND A JUMP AWAY FROM YOU, I AM COMING FROM 300 MILES TO THE NORTH.
mwarren2 05-26-2007, 05:30 PM Even though only three ROC members showed, Martin (Dragonslayer) & Larry from the faaaar North- Bill (BeepBill23) from the Central Valley [he also brought the spirit of (Too)BooKoo:eek: ] - Mike & Marilyn (mwarren2) from the base of the mountain, a fun time was had by all. What a pleasant day and a fun and exhilirating drive up and down Mt. Diablo. We spent about 2 1/2 hours at the summit (3800ft) before calling it a rap. Here's a few photos of the event. Enjoy!! :D
For some reason the photos are in reverse order. Look at them from the bottom up.

Wow! Tony in a can?!? Kewl!! You've all proven that it's not the number of Ridgelines that make for a great meet & greet event, it is the people that are able to come together and share our lives with one another and it looks like you all had a great time! Cindy & I and the whole SoCal gang can't wait for this years Santa Cruz get together so we can see you all again.

The Water Way You see here, is where the 2 Humpback Whales have Traveled up and BEYOND this area towards the Sacremento River. They sure have a LONG way to go to reach back to this area. Very Foggy in that area, as you can see the FOG rolling over the hills from far away.

Thats pretty much what i have, summarized.
Short but very sweet. Got to pass out 2 Match Box Ridges to my fellow Roc Heads Martin and Mike, as well as Meeting Larry, GREAT DAY for a Drive and NOT COLD what-so-ever! Got the feel of how my Ridge can handle this Steep Run up the mountain(having the Cooling Fan Running While the Ridge was OFF). A Day Out of Town is what i really needed and this was PERFECT!
ROC ON!

Bill, that's the Antioch Bridge. It is actually over the San Joaquin River. The Sacramento River is a bit north (to the upper left in your shot). By they way, it was good to see you and Martin again and thanks for the Match Box Ridgeline (BLUE RULES) :D
Dragonslayer 05-28-2007, 01:14 AM Hi all , got back from my trip tonight at 10:24, it took me exactly five hours to get from Vacaville to my house here [ 313 miles ] via I-5 to 299 and through the mountains of the Six Rivers National forest to 101 here in Humboldt. I had a great time, Larry and I went to Redwood city to visit his sister and her family on Friday and then to the meet on Saturday and over to Vacaville to visit my sister and her family that afternoon. We stayed with them and came home Sunday. The over all round trip was 808.6 miles. The Antioch Bridge is known officially as the John E. Nejedly Bridge if I remember correctly. I remember the original narrow 2 lane bridge that it replaced. That bridge was scary to drive over. I still have to down load my pictures to my computer and will download some soon.

UglyTruckling 05-28-2007, 02:42 PM Good pictures -- sorry I missed the outing! The weather looked much nicer than last year's....
bongus 05-28-2007, 05:53 PM Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the Santa Cruz meet. Keep on ROCin'
Dragonslayer 05-30-2007, 12:42 AM It was nice and hot on the mountain, well at least to me from the coast it was hot, 86 degrees and still, no breeze. It was clear on the mountain early , yet the valleys were cloaked in a thick fog. For all the members that did not make the meet, you missed out on a beautiful, warm day on the mountain. On the way down we stopped to let a coyote cross the road. I took a picture of North Peak from the summit , 3497 feet . There is an observatory on North Peak, I believe. I anticipate this coming Septembers meet. I would not be surprised to see us surpass twenty trucks or more.
5S Dude 05-30-2007, 06:48 AM Wow Martin! Your photos are absolutely gorgeous! Our “All Cal” meet in September could possibly turn out to be the “West Coast Nationals” of the ROC World.
