I bought my '06 RL with 16K miles on it. Before delivery, I let the finance guy talk me into purchasing a Simoniz treatment package, but I only paid around 60% of the retail cost. Anyway, the color of my RL is Nighthawk Black, and for some time I have noticed that when looking at the paint in direct sunlight, although the finish it is very shiny and reflective, it appears to have a thin film over the paint. It's kinda hard to explain, but it has somewhat of a hazy look to it. Has anyone else noticed this with their Nighthawk Black RL? I always thought that with black paint, you were able to look deep into it, or so it appears. I showed this to our local dealer the other day and he referred me to a local body shop. The body shop guy seemed a bit puzzled too, but he thought it might be a problem with the clear coat and that a buffer and some liquid polish might do the trick. The dealer said that whatever needed to be done they would pay for, and then re-apply the Simoniz at no charge. I am now wondering if the Simoniz treatment wasn't the problem to begin with. if anyone could shed some light on this one, I would appreciate it very much.

Black is a very temperamental color.

Last year, I tried compounding a fine scratch on my tailgate. The scratch was gone but when I followed my wife (yeah, driving the Ridge) home one nite, I saw a cloudy haze on the spot where the compound was applied. The next day, I used Meguiar's paint polish on the entire tailgate and the haze disappeared. In my case, the compound created the haze.

Perhaps their paint treatment was too abrasive OR the power tool operator had very little experience in applying the product.
