New England ROC Meet - Newport Style
May 19, 2007 in Beautiful Newport, Rhode Island
9/10am -12pm Meet and Greet at Brenton Point
Brenton Point State Park
Located off Ocean Avenue at Brenton Point, this state park has lots to offer. During World War II, it was considered a strategic location for the defense of the mouth of Narragansett Bay. The area is frequently used by students to observe the many tidal pools, plants, and animals that live along the rocky shoreline. There is a one-mile walking path along the oceanfront, complete with nature study information displays. Fishing for tautog, mussels, and lobsters is also popular along the shore. There is a large, open, grassy area ideal for picnicking and flying kites. Plenty of free parking is available.
• Handicap access, picnic tables/benches, toilets, trash receptacles

12pm - 2pm Picnic lunch at Brenton Point State Park
Bring your own grub.
Sandwichs to hibachis to mini gas grills, we have THE ultimate tailgating vehicle here so let's enjoy a tailgate lunch at the park...
2pm Head to Newport Storm Brewery (This time subject to change. Joe will have a better idea what time we can take the tour)
Private Tour and Tasting
We give private tours and tastings to groups larger than ten people. It is a great choice for corporate outings, club social events, or groups of friends. These must be scheduled at least a week in advance and are subject to brewery personel availabilty. The more warning you give us, the more likely we are to be able to accomodate you. These can be scheduled for weekends but not for Friday afternoons or evenings. Nobody under 21 is admited to our brewery at this time. Mandatory $5.00 per head gets each visitor a Newport Storm pint glass.
Post Brewery Tour
Activities after the brewery tour are up to those remaining in the area...
63Tbird 05-09-2007, 07:32 AM MoosePond, Has anyone talked with the state park to see if they will set an area aside for us to park the trucks together. I don't know how much room there is for parking, but it may be worth asking the question. State Parks don't usually do anything but you never know with 16 trucks rolling in.

Good question and I've taken the liberty of pasting it on the main even thread. btw, interested in "convoying" up to Newport that morning? We live in Westchester County (about 10 miles north of I-287) and plan on taking 287 over to the Hutchinson River Parkway (which becomes the Merritt Parkway in CT) then switching over to I-95 at West Haven unless we can find some more interesting "back roads" from there up to Newport.
MoosePond 05-10-2007, 10:10 AM Only 8 days to go until we meet in Newport . . . c'mon up and join us!
wjr1004 05-10-2007, 10:13 AM YEAP

MoosePond 05-10-2007, 10:17 AM Come on down and join in......:)
Oops! Guess that "up" and "down" are relative to where you're coming from. So, for those of you coming from Metro NY it's gonna be "Up" and for those in most of New England it's gonna be "Down". Whichever is the case, it's going to be a grand old time with what should be the largest Ridgeline turnout to date on the East coast!
wjr1004 05-10-2007, 10:22 AM Oh well
Ya know what
Just show up and have some fun
if it is up or down from your location..
I am sure everyone will have a great time.
ROC ON:) ;)
HA HA HA
MoosePond 05-11-2007, 06:14 AM For anyone who's thinking of joining us and is looking for lodging, the Courtyard by Marriott in Middletown (about 3.5 miles north of Newport) is showing rooms available at $215 plus there are quite a few Bed & Breakfast inns around the area and several of them show availability (don't bother checking the Black Duck Inn as yours truly got the last room there several weeks ago):

The Ocean drive is where the park is your going to if it's a nice day parking can be a drag. I really think this time of year you should be fine.Make sure if you can drive down bellvue ave(sp)this is where the mansions are and will take you to the park, but also allow you to drive the 10 mile ocean drive. bring your camera.
