I decided to keep an accurate record of my gas mileage. I fill until it cuts off and record the amounts. It should be pretty close. I will keep updating as I drive.

my average is 18.9 mpg, which is mixed driving city/highway.
I get 17 in the city and get 23 mpg if only on the highway.

I only have 1300 miles, but my average milage is only 14. The best is 17.1 and the worst is 12. I am going to give it a little longer before getting too upset, but it better improve soon. I have logged it since new at 13 miles. Not very good and with gas at over $3/gal, pretty expensive.

I have filled up 15 times so far, with a total of 4,192 miles.
Mix of city/highway driving on each tank.
Best mileage: 19.91 mpg
Worst: 11.84 mpg
Average for 4,190 miles: 16.51

I had hoped for better. Worst mileage of course came in February - we had some cold days.

I have about 3700 on the odo. This is with 70/30 highway/city. The last fill up was 17.82 gallon with 315 mile range. Mpg was 17.68.
Average = 17mpg
Higest = 19
Lowest = 13
Average range = 300miles

Hopfully this weather will make the difference. My mpg goes up with every fill up :)

Most places get better mileage in the summer than in the winter,,,pretty sure it has to do with the fuel oxegenated fuel in the winter which doesn't get as good of mileage. the summer fuel is more pure and the mileage goes up. Short of towing or 60 mph headwinds I have averaged 17 to 18 mpg, Just the last 2 tanks have yielded about 19.5 mpg driving the same route,,,60 hwy 40 city. Just got to 9000 miles so not sure if its breakin in or if they have changed the fuel but winter fuel will always yield less mpg than summer fuel.

I have always wondered about the widely divergent mileage figures we all get.

I have 25,500 miles. I consistently get between 19.5 and 20.5 mpg with the a/c on 95% of the time.

I drive moderately (not crazy, but not like a grandma).

I am stumped. :confused:

Glad you decided to post up your results. Since March I have never got below 18 mpg with mixed h/w and city driving. It is always between 18.5 to 19.5. Maybe I drive like papa.;)

I am at around 4900 miles on my Ridge. I have never really watched my gas milage. I did reset my last tank and averaged around 17 MPG. This was including towing around my mower which is around 1800 pounds including the trailer. I just filled up yesterday and will check out this tank as well.

What does everyone use to judge a tank of gas? The gas warning light? or how do you know how much gas you are putting in? These may seem like stupid questions, but without running bone dry, these numbers can be "fudged" pretty easily. I guess you could divide Miles\Gallon at fill... is that what people are doing? All I know is that I paid $20-30/week with my Civic in gas and now I pay $50-80. Only the car has changed. I might have to start eating Ramen noodles again... oh boy the cholesterol numbers!

I don't know what I am doing differnt but I got 18.xx on my first and it has been 19.5xx since then with around 4800 miles now. Maybe when it BREAKS IN I will get a bit better.:D

What does everyone use to judge a tank of gas?

I always take the extra minutes to fill it all the way to the top of the kneck. That way you know it is FULL. Reset my odo and do the same on the next fill and you can divide the fuel verse the miles.

I can't say this for a fact but some pumps cut off switch are different (they COULD cut off at different gas preasure settings from filling up).

Here's my graphic update showing actual MPG for every tank I've run thru my Ridgeline, along with a cumulative average line. This even includes the dealer-provided first tank (which I suspect wasn't completely full). As I stated in an earlier thread, the cumulative average illustrates the improvement in MPG that is characteristic as a Honda engine breaks in completely. Since 10K miles, I have only had four tanks that fell below the cumulative average & the last five tanks have all gotten 19 mpg or better! I expect the upward creep on cumulative mpg will level out right around 19...

I fill till cut off and stop. Is there going to be a variance...sure. But the math will have a variance of .3 to .5 mpg.

This is just my personal measure, of my truck, based on my style of driving, and use of AC.

I expect that when I get to 5K the average will be in the consistence 17's

Closing in on 20,000 miles in 1 1/2 years of driving. 70%highway, 30%city. Worst was 16.9mpg best23.1. Frequently drive between Tucson and Phoenix(95miles one way usually between 75 and 80mph.) MPG ranged from 17.6 to 19.0. For the past month decided to drop to 67 mph. On 4 trips mpg ranged from 20.8 to 23.1. Saw on a website several weeks ago that 2009 Ridgeline may come with hybrid engine. Anyone else hear anything about this? azdryheat.

Analyze how you are driving, check your tire pressures, and something I'm checking is the time I wait in the starbucks drivethru (this could add up to 20-25 minutes of idling a week for me). I'm at 14.7 after my third or fourth fill up, and using E-10. Here in NE, E-10 is a dime cheaper, but I don't know now if it's worth it based on the slightly lower MPG.

just filled up the RL at Sunoco, this is the best mileage I've gotten so far in mixed driving 60% highway 40% city. After figuring out my mileage on this fill-up, I was getting 20.1 mpg. The best I've gotten was 24.8 100% highway.
usually average 17.2 mpg.

I was out of town most of this week, so I finally did my first fill-up last night:

At halfway between 3/4 and 7/8th of a tank, I got 290 miles on a fill-up of 17.795 gallons. Calculated MPG is 16.3, on mostly in-town or short-hop highway driving.

I'm NOT complaining! The Durango did 14.6 HIGHWAY on the trek to Hilton Head & Back 3 weeks ago.

I calculated the mileage from my odometer, that was set/cleared upon filling up. Next time I fill up, I just divide the total miles driven since my last fill, by the total gallons that it took to fill up again.
My '06 Ridgeline never saw 15 MPG. It was always around 14.3 or 14.7 MPG. I was doing 90% city driving. I drove like Grandma going to church on Sundays; I had my tires set up at 32 pounds of pressure and checked them weekly; it was always a c,lean truck (for those who say that a clean car slips through the air better); I live in Florida, so the theory about winter gas does not apply; I seldom floored it; I coasted to stops; I tried different brands of gas; I had the dealer check the brakes for excessive drag (none); I removed any unnecessary weight from the truck; I even prayed for better mileage; but noooooothing happened.
In other words, my mileage sucked from day one and until 9,000+ miles when I traded it in.

hmmm...I have repeated this mileage with same type of driving and AC use.

NOW...based on 3 A/F graphs on 2 new and one modified Ridgeline dyno, I have a theory why some get 15 and some get 18+. I want to repeat this 5 more times with same or better results, but I think I understand the great changes in gas mileage from some users.

I had to fill-up before empty, but I drove with more AC and more City. My theory is starting to hold true. I have to drive 100% Highway for 2 tanks of gas. This should put me into the 20's if I am right. I will go back to the 30/70 rate next week and we will see if I hold 18's for 4 more tanks. If I do I will post my theory on 15's vs. 18-19's on mpg.

Try this for 1 tank and see if you get into the 18's

When you take off get above 2100 rpms as quick as possible and keep it between 2100 and 3100 rpms. When you drive on the freeway, drive between 65-80, but just pick a speed (like 75) and hold it as much as possible. Always try to keep your rpms over 2100 and no higher than 3100 for extended periods of time.

Three tips for getting good gas mileage:

1) Around town, don't try to be first. Take off smoothly. Keep the 1-2 shift under 3K rpm unless you're on a hill. Try and get to fifth gear lock (47mph) as soon as possible and keep it there. This can take some concentration and pedal work to do. The engine has just enough torque to take you over small rises without downshifting if you modulate the pedal correctly.
2) On the highway, if traffic is light, keep it under 75mph and in fifth gear lock. Stay out of the passing lane if you're not passing. If in heavy traffic, you're screwed. Just go easy.
3) Get the transmission TSB done if you need it.

This doesn't mean you have to drive like your grandmother, just steady and smart.
