I'm going to call it Long Island Winery tour Meet 2007.
Date: Oct 6,7 or 13,14 or 20,27
I would vote for the 13,14 weekend, The 27th is to closet to Halloween. It gets a little nuts out here.
Information: There are about dozen winery's on the north fork, Some have ET and all have wine tasting. I will look into a nice place to eat and hotels for the out of towners.

If anyone out there would like to help me out on this meet, I would like that.

If you never went to meet. it's a lot of fun. You will make new friends and see you truck with different styles. And it's great to travel together in caravan.

Look at picture from the Mid- Atlantic Spring meet.

I know what you are thinking, Why post it in the Mid-Atlantic thread. I met with the Mid-Atlantic in Pa and asked me about a meet on Long Island, N.Y..
You see New York in Mid and northeast, in between.

I'm going to call it Long Island Winery tour Meet 2007.

Not that this has anything to do with the Fall Meet , but I will be in Long Island on the Canada Day long weekend (July 1). Just look for the Black Ridge with Ontario plates!:D

I am not entirley sure yet, but, (this is going to sound a bit strange) my wife's cousin is the assistant coach for the Islanders (Daniel Lacroix). So I am not sure if we are going to his house or some beach house.

I've held quite a few Wine GTG's over the years and the easiest place to meet is at the Tanger Outlets. Then you drive out to Pindar or whatever Winery from there. Makes it easy and a fun drive.

Hi Al, NY and PA are in that gray area. Much of the country not to mention us
consider PA in the northeast, while many also include NY in the mid-Atlantic.
The more the merrier. Bud:)

Al, Sounds good!!. Let's pick a date and get it going.

I think the 6th and 7th is a holiday weekend for some   I think it's Columbus Day on the 8th if that means anything, but I don't have a calendar in front of me right now.

13, 14 is cool to. You pick it.

Oz, alsridge tells me he's making a few calls today for lodging. We should have some info shortly. I do know there is a Best Western very close to where he wants to set up the Meet, problem is it's booked for the weekend of the 13th. The following weekend is open, however. Room rates there will be about $100 to $125 a night.

I just got back from the Wine Country. I confirmed the winery tour at Martha Clara. Starting at 12:30 PM, Oct 13. The only problem I'm having is a place to stay, nearby. No luck in Riverhead. About 20 minutes before the winery, I found a Comfort Inn, in Medford and the rate start at $109 and up. I think this would work good. I'm also looking into Charlie Brown's Steakhouse for Sat night dinner.
Comfort Inn, 2695 RT 112, Medford, L.I. 631 654 3000. (OCT 12 - 14)I just called the hotel and ask for a discount rate and I got it. $99.90 per night. When you call, tell them, your are from the Ridgeline Club and if there a problem, ask for Mr. JT.
Charlie Brown's is next door.

Please Book early. and post your days you book at the hotel

I might like to get in on this, and I live only 10 minutes from Riverhead. It may be tough though, because I'm getting back from a 10-day Hawaii cruise on the 11th of October, my sons birthday (woe is me).

I just called the Comfort Inn and blocked out 18 rooms at a discount prize of $99.90 per night. You must tell them your from the Ridgeline Club to get the discount. Please post if you are booking one or two nights. I would book ASAP. If you don't book early the rooms will go back to the hotel, so they can rebook for someone else. I know right now there are 4 rooms already booked.

I would say, it should end about 3 or 4pm.
Go back to to the Hotel and take a swim or whatever. lolo

What's a hero ?:D

alsridge
06-12-2007, 06:53 PM
A hero sandwich, also known as an Italian sub or Italian submarine sandwich, is said to have originated in New York in the late 19th century when Italian laborers wanted a convenient lunch that reminded them of home.

The hero is traditionally at least two Italian meats and provolone cheese on a small or half loaf of crusty Italian bread with roasted peppers, vinegar, olive oil, and lettuce. It is a pork-based sandwich; popular meat choices include ham, prosciutto, pepperoni, capicola, mortadella and salami. However, the term "hero" has come to refer to any long sandwich in the greater New York area with the more non-regional term "sub" gradually becoming more popular in recent years.

"Hero" remains the prevailing term for any sandwich with a generally Italian flavor, in addition to the original described above. Pizzeria menus often include eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, and meatball heroes, each served with tomato sauce. Pepper and egg heroes and potato and egg heroes are also popular.

Tomatoes were not a historical ingredient of the hero, but are often included in modern heroes.

Synonyms and similar sandwiches are called elsewhere in America: heroes, subs, grinders, hoagies, Submarine sandwiches or Po' boys.
 :D :p

Stugots

I realize it's four months away and most would think there's plenty of time, but in this case it's simply not true. October is a busy time for the Long Island Wine Country. There's lots going on that time of the year and rooms are being reserved this early.

The success of the Meet may very well be jeapordized by room availability. I think this Meet can draw in excess of 15 trucks. Allan has blocked 18 rooms at a nice and reasonably priced hotel. There is even a lounge for an after dinner c0cktail party. It costs nothing to reserve your room now.

Please don't procrastinate.

Count me in. I'll meet you at the hotel on Saturday and go to dinner as well.

Should be lots of fun. Love going out to the North Fork in October, been doing it for many years. You should also plan a drive to Briermere Farms (http://www.briermere.com/) for everyone to get some awesome pies, cookies and apple cider! It's a Long Island tradition to go there and get your pies for Thanksgiving, yes I said Thanksgiving. You then freeze them until the night before Turkey Day when you defrost them.

Just a suggestion, but everyone will enjoy it.

I have made this thread a sticky and added the event to the ROC Calendar.

Question: Do you know anyone that would like to sponsor this meet. Just to spice it up. You can PM me.:D

Actually El Tour de Tucson is a race right from the start. They give everyone a computer chip that you have to wear the entire ride so they monitor you.

As for who to get to sponsor the event. I'd try contacting your Honda Dealer. When I had done Audi meets on Long Island I used to get Huntington Audi to sponsor the events. I got them to pickup the tab on a great box lunch that I arranged for at Old Westbury Gardens after we did a great 70 mile drive along the Gold Coast. Dealers always love to jump on these things. Speak to the General Manager about doing something like this. They always have something they can give away too. Just sell it to them as something that current owners will enjoy and ask them to invite them to the site and to the event. Don't worry so much about getting an rsvp from them for the dinner, sell them more on the wine tasting and getting together with fellow Ridgeline owners. It usually works. :)

I think this is an excellent idea and hope we can squeeze it in before dinner. The web site provided by spdrcr5 also contains directions for those who may want to drive out before heading home on Sunday.

I will be posting the Charlie Brown Steakhouse Dinner Menu and the kids Menu next week. The price will be about $26 per person and the kids will be cheaper. You will get an appetizer or salad, entree and desserts and coffee or tea. Tip and tax is in the $26.00 price. DON'T SEND MONEY YET. After I post the menu, you can send the check to me, and I will tell you to whom to make the checkout to.

We are all looking forward to the Long Island Meet, Allan. I echo the thanks the others have extended to you. It is coming together very well.

I'm slightly concerned about the dinner time. Not as far as I'm concerned, but for those who may be day-tripping and those with children. 7:15 may be a bit on the late side for them. It's a shame they can't take us at 5:00 or even a bit earlier. Most kids won't wait that late for dinner and the day-trippers may opt out of dinner to get on the road for home. Being a resourceful group, I'm sure we can work around it.

Stugots: To answer your 7:15PM question:
Winery at 12:30PM
Tasting is about one hour long
Lunch at the winery and the hayrides and B/S, about two or hours.
A slow ride back to see the veg. farms and one stop at the Briermere Farm for pies, or maybe to stop at another winery. One hour or more.
Go back to the Hotel and the locals can hang out with the hotel ridge's
At the hotel, there is a pool to hang out too.

DINNER TIME:
I think 5:00pm is to early and the only other, time was 7:15 and I took it.
If there is a problem with 7:15 and you would like to change it to 5:00, it ok with me. Please vote on it. My vote is 7:15pm

Two more things to do in Riverhead:
1:What the wifes like to do? Shopping: Tanger Outlet Mall in Riverhead. My wife can spend two days. Leave Wife and kids at Mall and we go to the winery's:D
2 Riverhead has a nice Aquarium.

If it was not for the nice people in this group, I wouldn't have done it. I hope the weather will be nice, that's why I have stugots helping me. lolol

If I could guarantee the weather for you, Allan, I would. Generally, I'm the guy that picks the rainest week in the summer as my vacation.

As far as dinner time is concerned, I like the idea of seeing what others have to say about it. I'm just concerned the day-trippers would have too much idle time before dinner and decide not to join us. I'd also like to save some time after dinner for a few drinks (can't say ****tail  ) at the Hotel with everyone.

I could care less personally about the time, it's the others I'm worried about. So let's hear from some of the others. As long as 5:00 is still an option, let's at least consider it.

There's still an outside chance that I'll make this one. Is there an up to date itinerary?
Actually, is the meet still starting at 11am. Curious so I know if driving down Saturday morning is an option (I know, I'll need to get up early):D

Also, any thoughts on driving down through the city as opposed to taking the ferry? It appears that I'd add a couple hours to the trip yet I figure it would be a couple hundred bucks cheaper not taking the ferry AND I get to see more of New York with my Red Sox bumpah stickah displayed...:p

I'm going to make a decision in the next couple of days so that I can get a room and get on the "IN" list. Will probably be me and either my 8 yr old or my 5 yr old. Bringing both can make the drive twice as long. And of course my wife will want to just stay home and have a quiet weekend, just her and our littlest new addition...:D

Trust me... I really, REALLY want to attend this meet!!

Brian, I don't think the rates will change, just the departure times.

If your looking for an itinery, then tentatively it looks like we're going to assemble at the Comfort Inn. We'll then depart the hotel at about 10:00 AM to drive over to the Apple Honda Dealership located nearby.

Apple Honda has agreed to host us in the morning. There will coffee and bagels, some give-aways, a Service Tech to handle any owner questions. From there we're off to the winery. We should arrive there about 12:00 to 12:30 for some lunch and a wine tasting. Weather permitting there will also be a hay ride tour of the vineyard. Apple is also sending out flyers to all of their Ridgeline customers inviting them to join us. So look for a great turnout for the Meet as well as a few new ROC members. Dinner will be at 7:15 at the local Charlie Brown's located next door to the hotel. Alsridge will be firming this up in due time.

Alsridge is doing a fine job organizing this event and I hope you can attend. Be sure twist some arms and bring along more of your New England ROC buddies. This is going to be fun.

The cost of the Ferry needs to be offset by the possibly 4-6 hour drive to drive down the coast through CT, across the Throgs Neck Bridge, then back out to Eastern Long Island. The ferry cost should offset the fuel costs to get you that distance. If I were you I'd catch the Ferry in New London, CT and take it to Orient Point.

Give Cross Sound Ferry (https://www.longislandferry.com/Default.asp) a call and ask them for an idea as to possible Ferry Service. They will know their basic schedule based on previous years.

I took the ferry from Orient Point to New London last October and it was something around $45. Also, think about gas saving. If I were you, I would take the ferry coming here (assuming the schedule is convenient enough) and would drive back through the NYC. If you do decide to take the ferry, go to their web site and buy the ticket in advance, as this is the only way to ensure the spot on the ferry.

Hey Bud, dbb will be out of the country, doubleT will be in Florida the month of October. Eagles and jgal are still thinking about it. Eagles' work schedule is undetermined and jgal has another commitment. I think he may break it, though.

A little taste of things to come. The North Forkis really beautifull in October with all the farm stands looking like Martha Stewart decorated them (and that's a good thing). That little ferry is coming from Shelter Island to Greenport. The picture was taken from Claudio's dock a really nice hangout this time of year. The other water shot is a little north shore beach looking across the sound to Conn. Saw Jimmy Cliff at the Martha Clara vineyard 2 summers ago in the middle of an open field, really great. That bad boy in front of the sign is my Lowrider, it was a great morning for a ride out East. Looking forward to seeing you all.

what many people don't realize is that Suffolk county is one of if not the largest county in the USA. And at one time it had the most farm land acreage of any county in the USA, or close to it. Of course now much of it is being developed but it can still take your breath away. When the weather is right the trees can start to turn but the sod farms are still green. I'm sure many of of us will be coming home with a few bags (and bottles) of the local goodies.

I think it's understandable. There are very many members who mention sincere interest, but cannot yet commit due to unknown work schedules or family or sports obligations.

I just got off the phone with Apple Honda. I'm really getting stoked about this Meet!

Apple Honda is sending out flyers to all of their Ridgeline customers inviting them to join us at the dealership. They have 206 Ridgeline customers and everyone will receive the flyer. If only 5% of them respond that would be an additional 10 trucks at the dealership.

Did I hear someone say, "THIRTY TRUCKS AT A REGIONAL MEET, WOW"! :D

There will be refreshments, some gifts and a Service Tech to answer any questions we may have. They are arranging newspaper coverage as well trying to get the radio station they advertise with to set up a remote broadcast. Maybe they'll even do on-air interviews. :D

Somebody needs to come up with a ROC commercial!

The owner of Apple Honda is a 78 year old gentleman who is truly excited about hosting us. He's even going to join us.

This also going to be a terrific opportunity to push the ROC and gain even more membership. I'll make sure there are plenty of ROC brochures to hand out.

MoeD, here's a link to the post that has three different versions of the ROC brochure (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=42838&postcount=1). They are PDF files. None of them are up to date, but do a fine job of getting the point across.

I thought it's time to bring up this thread again, it was getting dusty!

For any of you folks that expressed interest but needed to firm up work schedules now is the time to start the process. Remember room availability will be very difficult as the Meet draws closer. October is a busy time for the Long Island Vineyards. Don't be shut out just because there's "no room at the inn". It costs nothing to reserve your room. If you need to cancel there is no charge if you do it early enough.
