Is black the only option for the new steps? Are there problems with the second generation side steps from Honda? Thanks, Trevor.

Black is the only color they are listing so far.

They won't be available for about another month so no experience with them to know if there will be problems or not. Hopefully Honda took care of any of the problems they had with the silver ones. I haven't heard of any problems with the other round style ones and would hope that Honda wouldn't just change the paint color from silver to black on these and figure it would take care of the problems :)

I'm sorry Trevor, I think I didn't make myself understood. I have a terrible time with words. :o

Honda offered its first set of Side Steps, then stopped offering them early in the '06 model year. Then started with the second generation about a year ago. Now, there appears to be a third generation. I was interested in the second generation and worry about a problem with them.

the 'second generation' ones are a complete different design from the original silver rectangular ones. They are the same style that is used on the Pilot, MDX, CRV, and Element and I have never heard of any problems with them.

Interesting, they were supposed to be offered in the original silver and the new black color, (they were also supposed to release last September so there must have been real difficulties solving the problem). Maybe the original silver color had something to do with the corrosion/paint bubbling problems.

After all this time I think you can assume that the corrosion problem has been solved.

Honda's dirty little secret is that the new "old-style" black side steps are actually all of the defective returned silver units re-painted in black.;) :D

Just kidding.......!

Good Afternoon. First timer. Just bought an Aberdeen Green Ridge, and love it. Have added the Hitch/harness and rear mud flaps and now want to add the side steps or running boards. I read a lot of entries from the forum, and it appears a good percentage like the running boards. I heard about the new side steps from H&A and this makes the picture even more muddy. Any feedback from the more experienced Ridge owners would be much appreciated. We are a 3 Honda family (Odyssey, CRV, Ridge), 5 if you add the 2 scooters my kids have. Love Honda, never had any problems.

Thanks, GH

OK...so it's late June. Does anybody have a better idea of exactly when the new side steps will be available? Thanks...

Thanks for the update, Trevor!

Any idea how the new side steps will compare to the others currently offered by Honda?

I haven't seen them yet, all Honda gave us was a part number.

Looks good so far. I'd love to see some more pics at different angles and also installed. I could take and post pics of them on my truck if I had a set. ;) I've been putting off installing my fender flares and body moldings now that it's so hot over here, but I need to get on that.

do the steps use the same mounts as the factory running boards. Looks like it.

Also, what is the time frame for being able to order a set.

I'm interested in either these new square style, or the original tube style. I see earlier in the thread that it was asked about posting pics of the new style from other angles and installed. Anyone able to do that yet (possibly another thread out there with them already?) ..

I will be installing mine this weekend. Here is a Honda pic of the new steps:

Does anyone know if these steps (rectangular) will ever be available again in the color grey?

Any ideas, I considered rhino lining black ones to make them grey or having them painted??? What option would make them grey, look good and last???

Does anyone know who makes these steps for Honda? (I did call and ask Honda but they said they could not find out any info for me)

I love the look of these steps, I had the original grey that was discontinued as a result of corrosion problems. I think the grey looks a little better/classier and does not look dirty as quickly as the black does.

Thanks!

Not sure about the grey, but I would think you could have them powder coated any color that you would like. That treatment should last for this application.

Do you have any pics in the daylight? I have a hard time seeing the steps in your previous pics. Also, how functional are the steps? Do you use them or step over them when you get in and out of truck? I've had steps on other vehicles that where not that high off the ground and they seemed to hinder ingress/egress and I always got mud on the back of my pants. I think the steps really enhance the look of the RL but not sure if its worth the hassle of having to step over them.

I'll try and get some pics in the daylight once the rain and snow around here stops.

They are not real functional as I step over them most of the time, but I bought them to keep rocks, debris and car doors from hitting the sides of my truck and they have worked very well for that. As a matter of fact the side step on the drivers side has a pretty good size dent that I can only imagine what would have done to my door.:)

Just ordered my side steps. My Ridge is white and I think they'll look a lot better than chrome steps. Can't wait to install them.

I like the traditional R-L running boards--tapered, not square corners. Maybe because I just installed them on my 2008 RTL.... :D
