Anyone else been there? Here's my little girl up by the mile high bridge (sorry, bridge isn't in the picture).

I was up there a couple years ago, and it was about 25 degrees outside, and the bridge was a block of ice.

I have been visiting the High Country for the past 15+ years. Moved to Beech Mountain back in 2000 when I sold my B&B in central NC. Moved to S. FL in '01 and can't wait until this cruddy real estate market firms up so I can move back up there.

Must be a mass exodus from South Flordia. When we had our previous house on the market, most lookers were from South Florida. Sold it to a couple from Naples. Love western NC, if I had to leave southern middle Tennessee it would be to NC for sure.

My lady and I go to Newland, NC twice a year (spring and fall), and Newland is just a short distance from Grandfather Mountain. We go by there on each trip. Beautiful place. The enclosed pic is from a hike we took on the mountain. (My 3 friends are courtesy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0)

I'm glad you explained the friends. It looked like you were going to become someone's lunch any minute. Nice work with the photography. Also like what you did to your avatar. Funny stuff.

Western Carolina is no doubt a special place. I got to live in Sylva for six years.

Sorry to be so late in responding to this. Just now found it. The photo I posted on Grandfather Mountain (with my 3 friends), and the photo in my signature post pic were created with Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. Really fun software. Full-blown Photoshop costs around $650, but you can get Photoshop Elements 5.0 for around $40 on eBay. And if you want to know all the ins and outs of using it, buy "Photoshop Elements 5.0, The Missing Manual" by Barbara Brundage. Outstanding instruction manual for using the software.
BTW, the photo in my signature post is a combination of my cat and my First Lady. Both were unimpressed with my work. (But it was still fun!)
