Hello all,
I'm new here. I just got my '06 Ridgeline two days ago. Fantastic truck. I'm in love with it. Now I need a camper shell. Seems there are two -- one by A.R.E. and one by LEER? If anyone has any experience or feedback on the way to go I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you so much fellow Ridge lovers

And not to continue off topic but.... wouldn't an SUV be a better fit if you need a cap on something like a RL?
P.S. Welcome.:)

Can not throw 1500 lbs of cow manure in the back of an SUV... want more reasons :)... I personally do not like the cap... just some people need there cargo protected from the elements.. I always put caps on my old trucks.... toss goods in and have then secure, then haul a load of cow dung the next week if ya gotta...cant power wash the inside of an suv :D

Two cents worth:
I haven't been on the site for quite a while. But coincidentally, I'm on a trip to Mass. this week, and saw a great looking color matched cap on a Ridge going down the road yesterday. I didn't even know they made them. I've got to tell you, when I approached, I was wondering if Honda had started making an SUV version of the Ridge. This thing really looked good. I don't know the make, and I did not get a close look, but passing it on the road, it looked pretty sharp.
I too don't have a need for one (I use the Retrax for my needs), but I can sure imagine how some folks might need it. Good luck on your search, and hopefully the quality, design, and fit of your cap will be as good as the Retrax cover has been for those of use needing a lockable "toneau" type cover.

Thank you to everyone who replied...I use the truck for work and have to carry machines in it. No manure for me. The shell is for security and safety. I'll continue to search for answers about the shells before I purchase one. I love the way the truck looks, and drives. It is great to finally have a truck I like for my work, and one that gives me some pleasure. My intention is not to ruin its looks....it just has to be safe for the machines...otherwise I wouldn't be able to buy the truck! :)

I have the leer and have been happy with it. Only problem has been the struts that hold up rear window failed after about 6 months - leer sent free replacements. If you get a top, do some kind of gasketing around tailgate (retrax has a gasket kit) or you'll suck dust into the bed area.

Thank you kzeyus -- great point about the dust and gaskets. I will keep that in mind for sure. Not much info out here about the ARE so its hard to compare whether gaskets would be necessary on that one.
