How about a Mirror Tilt Group Buy?

Will you hook us up Kevin?

Thanks,

Alan

I guess it is up to me to ask. What is a Mirror Tilt?

I'm assuming it tilts down when you reverse.

Yep, Thats it...
Pretty cool...
It lowers your passenger mirror so you can see the ground and then restores it to the original spot when you go back into drive.
Check out the forums on his website for a video...

I would suggest sending Kevin an PM. He's good about responding. He has stated before on prior posts that it is good to have between 15 to 20 committed buyers before the GB would take affect. With that said, I'm in for a GB. Who's compiling the list?

Any pictures or links to this product?

(even if install on another vehicle)

I had that on my previous vehicle, on both mirrors. Very useful. I'd be interested.

As far as compiling the orders, I can since I started it.

I just looked at the video and have a couple of observations / questions.

I'm not sure about the delay after moving from reverse to drive. Is that really necessary? His site quotes 10 seconds but it seems to be less in the video.
I'm also assuming that the whole operation is timer based, so is it smart enough to return the mirror to it's original position if the movement in the other direction is interrupted? For example I move out of reverse before the mirror got to the bottom of it's sweep, or move back into reverse before it got into it's normal position.
Also what happens when you go into Park from reverse and kill the ignition? Do the mirrors still move to the normal position?
All questions that only Kevin can answer, so let's get him engaged in this thread. (I just pm'd him)

As the module is timer based, it will never be 'perfect' because of the lack of feedback from the mirror. However, if the module is 'tuned' properly you should be able to go through at least 10 reverse cycles before needing to make any adjustments. Because it is tunable, the accuracy will greatly depend on the time taken to get it right. There are two adjustments, the first is the 'down' adjustment that tells the module how long to move the mirror down (~1-6 seconds). The second knob controls the 'tweak' timer. This timer will adjust the the 'up' time by +/- 0-1 second from the down time. In our testing we found that power mirror motors don't run the same speed up and down, so we built in an adjustment so you can address the difference.

In our testing the delay is necesarry. The modules main function is for parallel parking. So, when you put the car (or truck) in reverse and back up, then put it in drive to pull forward you wouldn't want the mirrors to go back up immediately. When driving I've never had a problem with the delay. It is there basically to keep the mirror from going up and down while going between drive and reverse.

The module is 'smart' enough that it will never start a new tilt cycle until the old tilt cycle is complete. So, once it starts moving down, you can pull the tranny out of reverse and it will continue on its way down, wait ~8 seconds, and then go back up.

The module has both a 12vdc constant wire and an ignition wire. If the truck is shut off while the tranny is in reverse the module will complete its cycle and raise the mirror back up. If the truck is started in reverse the module will NOT tilt the mirror down until it is taken out of reverse, and then put back in. This is for manual transmission people who park in R (like me).

The module also has a few other 'convenience' features - like a ~1 second delay before tilting. This allows you to shift from P to D without triggering the module when the tranny slides through the R position.

The last little feature is that it has two modes of operation - referred to as Mode I and Mode II. Mode I will tilt the mirror every time you put the tranny in R. Mode II requires you to put the tranny in R, take it out of R, then put it back in to R to trigger. Mode I is designed for city people who parallel park often and Mode II is designed for people who rarely would want the tilt (like me, again). In both modes you can bypass the tilt if you do not need it.

As far as a group buy goes, the short answer is 'no'. These modules arn't in production yet, so we can not offer a group buy on them. The circuit boards have been ordered, so they will be availible in ~3 weeks or so. At that time, we will most likely offer an introductory rate to everyone, with no mins needed that will be very similar to GB pricing.

Thanks Kevin. Excellent info.
