Twintym 06-06-2007, 01:28 PM OK, I think it's time I take the wheel and plan our next SoCal ROC meet. I suggest we meet at Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim (http://www.ocparks.com/yorbapark/) andbased on current availability, I think we should go with Sunday August 12th. I can reserve a group space, that will hold up to 50 people and 35 vehicles, for $87.00. I will have to do this very quickly as spaces are almost all gone. Please note it will also cost $5 per vehicle to enter the park. There is a lot of open space for games, BBQs, picnic tables, a lake and a lot more. Everyone please chime in and let me know if you are interested. This is a great park, and it' will be a lot cooler than Lake Perris in August.

You can fish, bring your dogs, rent a bike, throw horseshoes, hike, play volleyball or just relax and have a giant BBQ!! You can ride your bike from the staging area all the way to the beach down the Santa Ana river bed from this park and many people do. Bring the dog & kids and have a nice day at the park. 5S Dude 06-11-2007, 06:34 AM Has anyone heard from Luis and Mguzman?
I've emailed them both and hope to hear a reply soon! We have received an email back from good ole Lincoln, Monica and family (Racer-X) and he said he'd try and make this event. I believe he's recently opened a new clinic and has been really busy with that. Keep the emails and pm's flowing! we should easily get record setting attendance here in SoCal. ROC-On!
Toobuku 06-11-2007, 04:03 PM I'll bring 2 to 3 italian deli sandwiches and maybe some drinks! Maybe break in the truck ice chest :D
kanji 06-11-2007, 06:53 PM I'll bring 2 to 3 italian deli sandwiches and maybe some drinks! Maybe break in the truck ice chest :D
I've tried the trunk ice chest thing, it works, but the ice depending how hot it is outside melts really fast. I found a little trick, i lay & line blanket down in the trunk and use a PVC plastic sheet over the blanket and create an insulator, since our trunk doesn't really have any sort of insulation. Once the blanket is set and the plastic sheet over the blanket is secure, i then dump a few bags of ice, and it keeps pretty cold in the trunk. Just a reminder, after you are done, it will create a small resevoir of water at the bottom, if you do decide to do this, make sure you use a blanket you don't mind getting soak with water. Overall, it work, and prevents the ice/water from making contact with the Spare tire and other dirty little things in the trunk.
Twintym 06-13-2007, 09:55 AM Currently, we stand with (10) confirmed and (5) maybes for this meet. Watch post #4 of this thread for the updated list. Make sure all your SoCal ROC friends know about this and invite any newbies you run into. I'm hoping for a really good turnout. Any questions, just ask.
Dan

5S Dude 06-17-2007, 10:56 PM We just received an email from Luis (lgmendez) and he and his family already have reservations at Lake Nacimiento that weekend for some camping and boating. We’ll be thinking of you “el-gee”
Twintym 06-18-2007, 01:55 AM Let's make the official arrival time 10 AM. I will get there earlier to get things set up. I am going to start adding the food list to post #4 of this thread. As you tell me what you want to bring, I will post it there. For those of you unsure as to what they should bring, take a look at the list first. Maybe that will give you some ideas. If you need suggestions, just PM me. My family will provide paper plates, cups, napkins and utensils. Let's get a strong turn-out from all you SoCal ROC-Heads!

kanji 06-20-2007, 11:22 AM are there power outlets to the gazeebo type picnic areas similar to Lake Perris & Cerrito's or is this just a typical type park for just picnic areas with grill and benches under patio covers? Twintym 06-20-2007, 11:39 AM How about drinks? I was thinking sodas, and I guess its BYOB I don't drink alcohol anyway :D
Sodas would be great. My best guess is to expect a total of (25-35) people. You do not have to bring sodas for the entire group. Just tell me how many you are comfortable bringing. We should be able to get other members to help with this. We're looking for more soda volunteers......

I checked with the park regarding power outlets and there are none in our group site. We do have 6 picnic tables, 1 serving table and 2 barbeques in our site.

Sounds like a plan. In case you haven't tried the trunk as an ice chest yet, be forewarned that you will have much better results if you insulate the trunk walls with something like styrofoam. Some members have complained that the ice melts very quickly without insulation. Just a heads up for you.

kanji 06-20-2007, 04:16 PM Thanks for the heads up.
check out post #38, i've tried the ice chest in the trunk and Dan is correct. Without insulation other than the trunk itself, the ice will melt depending how hot it is outside. Post#38 basically explains what i did to resolve a small problem with great success. You can also use styrofoam too. I like to use the pVC plastic liner so it will line the inside and the ice will not touch any of the equipment inside the trunk like the tires or move around, if you want to use the ice to chill your drinks.:D

kanji 06-21-2007, 11:23 AM Thanks Kanji, What is PVC plastic?
PVC plastic sheet is a basically a sheet of plastic, thick enough so it doesn't rip once it catches on something, similar to a tharp used for covering or a gardening plastic cover. Or use something similar, strong enough that if you put ice or glass bottles in it, it will not rip the plastic and soak the insulation.
You can buy the sheet of plastic or pvc plastic at either LOWE'S or Home Depot.
The Ice in the trunk has been done by others too, to my experience, i put at least 10 bags of 5lbs bags in it, but didn't have any type of insulation to keep it cold. The outside temp was 85 - 98 F degrees, it lasted about 2 hours. Since i didn't have styrofoam or spend extra, i just use a pyle of comforters or if you have Wool blankets, use the wool blankets and then cover with the plastic sheet. that should work as a good insulation.

Brent 07-31-2007, 05:30 PM Looks like I will be there after all. Had to return home early for personal reasons. Drove by St Louis to and from Danville Il. I already PM'd Tmac to let him know I will be a no show. By the way I found out that the Ridgeline will do 1400 miles in a day of safe solo driving. My back was lucky to survive 450 miles in my Ford Ranger. 1400 miles is pushing the outer edge of the envelope even is states with 70 and 75 mph on the highways. The other 700 miles the next day was a piece of cake.
Twintym 07-31-2007, 08:26 PM Brent, I added your name to the Confirmed list. Be thinking about what you want to bring to the pot-luck and let me know. Post #4 of this thread has a list of what people are bringing so far. See you soon.
Dan
Twintym 07-31-2007, 08:30 PM What color balloons brah?!? I gotta find some with Olympic Rings on um........
It doesn't matter what color they are if you find some with Olympic Rings on them. That may be a tall order however unless they sell them on the US Olympic Team website. Great idea Ron!
Twintym 08-01-2007, 12:06 PM 11 DAYS TO GO!!! So, let's get some things finalized. Following is a list of confirmed attendees as well as the maybes. Next to each name is what they are planning to bring for the pot-luck. Those of you that don't have anything listed need to let me know what you're bringing. Here is the list so far:

daskraut
Alexander - (chips and dip)

We really need some more side dishes like salads, fruit, veggies and pasta. Please start posting your contributions or you can PM me with your decisions and I will add them to this list. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. I will be PMing all confirmed and maybe attendees shortly as a more personal reminder. Let's show the folks in the rest of the country where the most passionate RL owners live!
5S Dude 08-01-2007, 09:54 PM Cindy has just volunteered her Teriyaki Chicken and I’ll bring the Match-Light Charcoal for each of the Bar-B-Q’s!
Quick questions. Are we going to need any additional shade? Will there be a need to bring an “Easy-Up” and camping chairs? Let us know if you need any extra help in the morning to lend a hand with setup….
Twintym 08-02-2007, 10:05 AM That's great Ron. I have added chicken and charcoal to the committed food list. Everyone please keep in mind there is no power at the group site so if you bring a side dish that needs to be kept warm, it will have to be heated on the Coleman stove Brent will be bringing.
Our group site has covered seating for about (30) people and uncovered seating adjacent to the site for another (20). An Easy-Up might be a good idea in case we get that big. There are (3) large wooden roof structures at various heights over the site. They should provide decent shade for the area. Anyone that doesn't want to sit at a picnic table should bring folding chairs.
Ron, I will get to the park no later than 9:00 AM to make sure the site is clean. I will also post ROC signs pointing the way to the site. The first will be posted at the main entrance to the park on the big wooden bulletin board pointing the way to group site #6. If you want to help setting up, I would certainly appreciate your help.
Here is a REVISED link to directions to the park: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&addtohistory=&address=7600%20E%20La%20Palma%20Ave&city=Anaheim&state=CA&zipcode=92807%2d2444&country=US&geodiff=1
Thanks.
Dan
Brent 08-02-2007, 04:40 PM I will also bring a Coleman 2 burner, an iPod with 10Meg of music and an extra pot of beans for those who want to compete the "noise" my IPod makes.
JOZ RIDG 08-02-2007, 04:56 PM I'm trying to make this meet also, if it's not to late.
I want to pay my share of the $87.00 reserved group space.
Pay now or at the meet?
Was also thinking earlier about Easy Up's for shade that Ron mentioned.
I have two that I could bring anyway, just in case.
Can bring large bowl of fresh homemade potato salad, hot dogs and buns etc.
Have 3 ice chests, could bring 2 chests full of "extra ice" if not enough ice has been a problem and 1 chest full of ice and sodas.
PM me with any other suggestions and what quantities to bring.
Joe.
Twintym 08-02-2007, 07:31 PM That's great Joe. It is definitely not too late to sign up for the meet. I will add you to the list of confirmed attendees. As for payment for the group site, we can handle that at the park.
Your offer to bring potato salad, dogs, buns, ice and sodas is very generous. If you decide you can't make it after all, please let me know. I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends. See you at the meet.
Dan
gadgetz 08-04-2007, 12:09 AM Looks like we're going to make the M&G. We'll bring some kind of salad, some fresh fruit and a dessert.
Ron/Dan can you PM all of the details...
Thanks,
Daryl:D
Twintym 08-04-2007, 10:17 AM Daryl, I just PM'd you with the details. See you there.
Dan
gadgetz 08-04-2007, 10:33 AM Daryl, I just PM'd you with the details. See you there.
Dan
Got it! Thanks...we'll see everyone next weekend.
Twintym 08-05-2007, 09:04 PM Hey everyone. We are now up to (16) confirmed and (7) maybe attendees. There are still (5) of the confirmed members that haven't said what they're bringing to the pot-luck yet. You can take a look at post #86 for an up to date list.
As a reminder, the meet will start at 10 AM on Sunday August 12th at Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim. A mapquest link is provided on the meet thread somewhere on page 9 as I recall. We have reserved Group Site #6 which handles up to 50 people. There are 2 BBQs in our site and another just a few feet away. There are several picnic tables in the site and close by. If you want to bring any folding chairs or Easy-Ups that's fine too. There is no electricity on the site and they do not allow amplified music or PA systems. Everyone must park in marked parking places. There is plenty of parking, but we are not allowed to block off spaces for our party. Each vehicle will be charged a $5 park entry fee.
I will post a 16" x 20" sign that says ROC and has a big blue arrow pointing to the right. This sign will be located on a big wooden bulletin board right as you enter the park. As you drive straight through the entrance gate you will be looking straight at the bulletin board. I will also post a sign on the site itself. Just keep following the park signs to GROUP SITE #6.
If anyone gets lost or needs to reach me on Sunday, please call me on my cell (951) 314-0303. Any questions before Sunday, please PM or email me. We're all looking forward to meeting some new ROC buddies and getting to catch up with those we have already become good friends with. Everyone please drive safely.
Dan
Twintym 08-07-2007, 09:05 PM Here is the list of (3) Confirmed attendees that I haven't heard back from on what they will be bringing for the pot-luck on Sunday:
daskraut
Top Secret
bbnmcas
I'm just trying to make sure everything is covered so I have less last minute scrambling to do. If your plans have changed, please let me know. The food list on post #86 is updated so you can refer to it to see what else might be needed. You can PM with any questions. Thanks.
Dan

Our Ridge is in the shop getting a few warranty issues worked on at Buena Park Honda service department and I’ll have a full report for our SoCal members shortly.

It's great to hear from you Miguel. Homemade sausage sounds great. There are 2 BBQs in the site so it's up to you whether you bring yours or not. With 35-40 people coming, it might not be a bad idea. See you and Adriana Sunday and we'll catch up.
Dan
Twintym 08-08-2007, 08:25 AM Kanji (Anthony) PM'd me last night to say he may not make it to the meet after all and asked to be listed as a maybe. He was going to bring marinated chicken for the pot-luck. As a precaution, if anyone that hasn't already committed to bringing something to the pot-luck, could bring some kind of meat for the BBQ, that would be appreciated. It can be chicken, burgers or most anything else. We already have some teriyaki chicken, sausage and hot dogs coming. Any help will be great. Thanks and see everyone Sunday.

Lydia will be making her BBQ chicken to grill...we will still bring the salad and fruit as well.
Twintym 08-08-2007, 08:15 PM Thanks Daryl. I added Lydia's chicken to the food list. See you Sunday.
Dan
Brent 08-09-2007, 12:12 AM Thanks MGUZMAN. I will rest my iPod but I am still bringing the pot of beans that we may need to drown out the noise of your iPod if we don't like the genre you are playing! Actually these are silky beans that slide down so smoothly that nothing is agitated and so no noise.
One thread was a bit worried about enough meat dishes. The pot of silky beans and the bucket of chili both have abundant meat in them. The chili will be a yad bit spicy 'cuz I just can't help it. It always turns out that way no matter my intentions.

No noise huh?!? We’ll be camped “upwind” from the silent but deadly cook off……..lol.
Twintym 08-10-2007, 05:05 PM Just 2 Days to go! We stand at (14) confirmed attendess as of now, after a couple of cancellations (Ridgegal & Gadgetz). There are also a handful of Maybe's that might show up. Everyone is welcome whether you are on the list or not. I even have a few Matchbox Ridgelines to give away for those poor souls who haven't found any yet. There are even a couple red ones available. (Did that sound like a bribe? Good, then my meaning was clear.) I look forward to seeing everyone Sunday at 10:00 at the park. My cell number is (951) 314-0303. Everyone drive safely.
Dan
Niq Man 08-11-2007, 10:31 AM Twintym: I got dibs on a red one.
JOZ RIDG 08-11-2007, 12:47 PM Twintym: I got dibs on a red one.
NO WAY!!!!
My RL is Red yours is Silver! ;)
I guess I snoozed. :(
kanji 08-11-2007, 04:15 PM I think, I maybe able to make it this sunday. I'm still bringing what i'm bringing. Is anyone going to bring their 2way Radios? and If you are, what channel is everyone on?
Twintym 08-11-2007, 06:04 PM I will have to find a more creative way to distribute the Matchbox RLs than "dibs". Sorry Niq Man. I have (6) blues but only (2) reds to give away.
We hope you can make it Anthony. No one will need the FRS radios this time as we are not caravaning anywhere. If anyone gets lost, just call my cell (951) 314-0303. Drive safely.
Dan
C25A1guy 08-11-2007, 06:05 PM I'll more then likely be able to make it. If there's something reasonably easy to get that you want me to bring, let me know.

5S Dude 08-12-2007, 07:09 PM I’m prolly the first one home after seeing the looks of the east bound Riverside freeway! So here goes a few photos of todays meet & greet. First, a very special thanks to all the “newbies” that made it a great day in the park! and to Dan (Twintym) for a simply awesome job getting us all together again. Thank you for the kind words and prayers for my kid brother who recently had a stroke. It really makes you appreciate these great times together even more……..
Tihstae 08-12-2007, 07:27 PM As one of those newbies that you mention I just want to say I had a great time. It is good to meet such nice people and it was a pleasure meeting and talking to each and every one of you.

I will post some pictures in the next day or two if I have any that someone else hasn't already posted. Thanks to all of you for a great time. Let's see how many members we can get to the All California Santa Cruz meet on September 29th.
Dan & Pam
Niq Man 08-12-2007, 09:40 PM For my first Ridge meet, I was very impressed and had a great time. I just wish I could've stayed longer. It was great meeting all of you. Thanks for the warm welcome.
Dan: Thanks for setting this meet up. You did a great job.
Ron: May God bless you and your family. I wish your brother the best of luck.
meanmachine19 08-12-2007, 09:41 PM Glad to see everyone had a great time and I look forward to the pics! Dan, how was Pam's birthday? Was thinking about you guys all day!
I was very tempted to come out but Kris just got back late last night after three day drive from MI where she and the kids have been for past two weeks. Oh well, I know there will be other So Cal meet! :p You guys (and gals) ROC!
Keep them pics coming!!
JOZ RIDG 08-12-2007, 09:52 PM I’m prolly the first one home after seeing the looks of the east bound Riverside freeway!
You got that right. Took 1 hr & 45 min to go 8 miles.
There was a small grass fire along 91 fwy at Green River.
Had a great time at the meet & greet.
My first and it looked to me that there was a pretty good turnout.
Had a great time meeting everyone. What a great bunch of ROC members.
Everyone was so nice and friendly.
Food was excellent too.
Ive' heard of Anthony's marinated chicken and it IS as good as they say!
And Miguel's home made sausage was awesome.
And Brent, OMG, that is what chilli is supposed to taste like. I ate as much of that as I could.
To everyone else, everything tasted excellent.
Got to thank Dan for getting the meet together. Great group.
Here's a few photos. More later.
I counted 16 Rl's.

I think Pam had a great time. There aren't many wives that would agree to spend their birthday at a car club function, let alone suggest it! I am a lucky man.
We wish you could have come out, but we certainly understand. How does September 29th in Santa Cruz sound to you? It's going to be a lot of fun. If you can't make that, we will at least see you at the Sedona meet next year. Take care and say hi to Kris for us.

Muridge 08-13-2007, 01:16 AM My family and I were so glad to see your group of Ridgeline owners at Yorba Regional Park on Sunday. Our curiosity has led us to meet several of your members and learn about the Ridgeline Owners Club. It was a pleasure talking to Dave, Toobuku, Big Dave, Niq Man, tihstae and the rest that I couldn't remember the names. Thank you very much for the invitation. I am now a new proud member of ROC! Hope that my family will be able to join you in future meets. Kudos to everyone.

5S Dude 08-13-2007, 06:54 AM It’s always great to have newbies in attendance Ricky! Congrats for finding us and a sunny SoCal welcome to this great club. These meet & greets are one of the best things about the ROC but there is also a ton of info about everything relating to the RL as well.
I think we may have found your sunglasses Michelle! Only thing is you may have to get hubby to bring you to Santa Cruz to pick them up!!!! ROC-On! everyone, and have a great week!

The family had a great time, and it was absolutely awesome to see all those Ridgelines lined up like they were. Please let us know the next time you're getting together in SoCal. 5S Dude 08-13-2007, 10:01 PM Man what an awesome job done on the slide show Kanji!! Super nice work!
Kelly, you were sittin right beside us the whole time sis! Hope to hang with you in Santa Cruz!!
Great photos as usual Miguel! and a very special thanks again for the “RC RL”
Unreal job Dan! We sure hope Pam had a great birthday party. We’ll be back to carving aluminum this Saturday if you want to stop by.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! Got a call from my kid brother tonight and he is doing really well after that scary stroke.
JOZ RIDG 08-13-2007, 11:05 PM Man what an awesome job done on the slide show Kanji!! Super nice work! ---------- Great photos as usual Miguel!
I'll second that.
What a super job of capturing this event. The intro in the slide show was so very well done and very creative.
I was going to post a few more photos but, not now.
Kanji and Miguel got to whole event coverd superbly.
Truckin' 08-13-2007, 11:14 PM Gee, I hate to miss out on a party. It looks like you threw a good one. Way to go, Pam, getting all these folks to gather in honor of your birthday! I know you had a happy one.
Good pictures. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in April in Sedona next year. The California contingency brings such good spirits to the AZ meet. I hope more of you will plan to make the journey.

Well maybe just one more photo.
I know Tony is a real tough guy with all his tough training and painfull injuries in his line of work BUT, testing the BBQ coals with his elbows is far beyond the call of duty.
Ouch! ;)
Tihstae 08-13-2007, 11:39 PM Good to hear that your bro is doing good Ron. We will still keep him, you, and your family in our prayers.
I will also second (or fourth or so) the thanks for all the great pics.
getyourmindright 08-14-2007, 11:29 AM It’s always great to have newbies in attendance Ricky!
ROC-On! everyone, and have a great week!My girlfriend lost her shades also did you happen to see any other pair laying around?

Toobuku 08-15-2007, 01:31 PM I sorry that I am just now chiming in on a great meet but I have been very pre-occupied with my job lately and some family matters as of late. Dan, great job buddy, couldn't have done better myself! Ron sorry about your little brother. I just found out about him reading the posts. I hope he is doing better. Welcome to the ROC to all the newbies in SoCal ROC, Kevin, good to see you again and meeting your fiancé and daughter. There was so much food there, I tried to sample it all and failed. I didn't get to try Miguel's homemade sausages.
Do to recent developments :o , I am going underground for a period of time and will resurface prior to the All CAL ROC Meet II. Great seeing everyone again. THE PICTURE WAS FUNNY JOE! :D
SIMPLY DAVE 08-21-2007, 10:45 PM Great times guys--thanks for orgainizing the event Dan. So much great food and a sweet location. We had a pretty intense game of Volleyball going on. It was great meeting all of you and putting names to faces.
Seeing all the different mods you all have done to your truck makes me want to start modding our truck. I think we'll start with the de-badging of the tailgate and go from there.
Sorry to post so late but I've been super busy working (3 jobs ain't easy) and haven't been able to hop on this forum in awhile.
I do have some sweet photos and a couple of video including one of tony's exhaust. As soon as I figure out how to post it--I will.
Thanks for the good times--can't wait for the next one!!!!!
