We will be driving from VT to the UP via Ontario in July and would like some recommendations for places to stay, eat, visit, etc. I assume we will be taking the route from Ottawa through North Bay and Sudbury to the Soo.

Thanks much,

Henry

Being from Ottawa, I would suggest Parliament Hill (guided tours of Centre Block are available), watching the changing of the Guard on Parliament Hill (outdoors), taking a tour along the Rideau Canal, checking out the Mounties musical ride, taking a tour of Gatineau Parc (excellent scenery), checking out the Governor Generals estate, touring the Museum of Civilization, touring of the Royal Canadian Mint, Chateau Laurier and the list goes on!

Henry, unless you're over 80 and wheelchair-bound forget Ottawa and come visit a real exciting city like Montreal!

If you're Kayak-oriented, the Lachine rapids will give you a real run for your money.;)

Now, if you don't mind, I'll be hiding for a while until the dust settles. The Ottawa guys get a bit cranky when they're prodded..... :p :D

Ouch!!! Where did that stick come from *growl* ;)

If you want nightlife, and a guaranteed good time you had better head to Montreal; but if you are in your "Carlsberg Years" and want a slower pace in a really clean picturesque town, then Ottawa is the place to be!

What the heck! Do both! :D

Gotta visit Algonquin Park if you like rustic scenery, a bazillion lakes, huge tracts of forest, etc.

If your into the outdoor stuff you need to visit Killarney. People come from all over the world to see the quartzite hills! Hit the fish and chip bus as they have the best in the world.

Drive to this park from Sudbury. It's worth the 75 minute trip!

While in Sudbury you can also Visit ScienceNorth. Voted top 5 hands on Science centres in the world!

Hey, you Ottawa folks forgot to mention the Casino in the Hull/Ottawa area.

Joking aside, our nation's capital is both stunning and a fun city to visit. Don't forget the Marketplace square as well.:)
