Carolina Meet

There has been some joking around about a Carolina ROC :D(CROC):D meet, is there an interest and where would you like to do it. Maybe if we decide on a location then someone familiar or close to that could do some leg work. My assumption is that there wouldn't be a lot of work involved, just set a date and maybe some lodging info.

So jump in the thread and if there starts to be a consensus then we can start narrowing down time and location.

Charlotte area would probably be central to all in SC and NC. Other options would be Chimney Rock Park, Asheville, or Charleston.

Chimney Rock/Lake Lure would be nice.
Asheville has possibilities....Biltmore House, etc. I am close enough to both of these areas that I can do some leg work, if need be.:D

When? Currently busy through August. :)

Ok I see that Charlotte has a couple of votes, and WNC is in the picture too. I like both of those.

Do people want to just walk around admiring each other's RL or combine this into a Drive and Sight See? I know some touristy areas in WNC around Maggie Valley. There is a nice drive up to Blue Ridge Parkway. Further West is Cherohala Skyway. North is Cade's Cove and Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. I have a friend that has a campground for those that like to tent out, and a couple little cabins. http://www.kickstandlodge.com

If we are over that far we might as well invite those Volunteer ROC'ers too.

Blue "Ridge" Parkway drive sounds good. I would do some limited hiking as well somewhere, but no tents. I would prefer we meet around noon on a Saturday somewhere WNC, maybe near Asheville, drive for the afternoon up the pkwy. Find a place to stay Sat. p.m. along the Pkwy. and head out Sunday morning for home.

The Raleigh area has many great places to meet. We could get together, do a drive together, go somewhere to eat together for the day and visit with each other.
If you want to make a weekend of it then I suggest meeting and doing the Blue Ridge Parkway drive - maybe to Grandfather Mountain in the fall.

You need to check out the South/West end of the Blue Ridge. From Asheville to Cherokee is the greatest. Also you will cross the highest point in the Blue Ridge about half way.

Great time to be in the mountains. Problem is with the leaf watchers and price gouging during the peak periods. Asheville is a tourist trap, Pisgah Inn is probably booked up, and the Smokies will be very crowded. Not really sure where late September would be ideal location. Suggestions??

Let me work up some details, like places to eat, stay, etc. and post them for people to make some choices and then go from there.
I agree, it will be a bit busy in the Asheville/Blue Ridge Parkway area but I think that the sights and the availability of things to do/see will make it worth while! After all we just want to get together for some fun, get aquainted, share our love of a great truck, take some great pictures, etc. Right?;)

I go to Myrtle Beach yearly, also. Actually, September is a pretty good time there. Less crowds and the motel prices are lower.

Anyway, somebody let us know when and where...

It looks like the leading contenders are Asheville and Myrtle Beach areas. Time frames seem to be Late September.

I don't think there is a need for a poll, just chime in with the location of your choice. Say by the end of next week, July 7th at Midnight and then we will have a choice.

Then we can see if a local ROC'er would like to give recomendation of a place to set up HQ and that might dictate the time as to room availability.

How does that sound?

My Vote is Asheville.

Asheville is a good central location for NC, TN, SC, GA, VA, and others. Biltmore, Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Mitchell, Chimmny Rock, Lake Lure are all fairly close by. I would prefer a more out of the way location, but I can live with Asheville. Not a bad trip for me, I go up the back way; Ocoee, Nantahala, then the Smoky Mountain Parkway to I-40. Have gone across the Cherohala Skyway a few times on the way to Asheville.

Ashville sounds like a great place to meet. We could cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway.
A suggestion for a place to meet and stay is:
Comfort Suites Biltmore Square Mall
890 Brevard Rd
Ashville NC 28806
Phone 828-665-4000
We stayed there this past April. If you do a mapquest, you can see that it is right next to the Biltmore Square mall. There is plenty of room for parking, both at the Comfort Suites and the Mall.
There are several resturants in the immediate area.
There is an entrance to The BlueRidge Parkway within a few blocks.
The end of September sounds like it would work for us. Hope we can make this happen.

We will be taking my S2000 up to Hard Dog in NC late October for a roll bar install. We'll either caravan the family in the MDX or I might haul the S up there with the RTL. Basically we're dropping the S off and then heading to VA to visit family/Celtic Games Festival over a long weekend and then heading back to pick the S up. If it works out we might be able to spend part of day with ROC.

If voting isn't done yet, I would vote for Asheville/WNC area with cruise on Blue Ridge Parkway. If we want fall colors, won't we want it in late Sept or early Oct? If it's a weekend thing, it will be more doable for us.

It will be a long drive but I think it's worth it to meet everyone and enjoy the scenery. We used to live in Raleigh area and frequented WNC.

The one thing my hubby and I have not done is visited that cheese factory. Can't remember where in WNC it is...

BTW, I just checked the Comfort Suites website and Saturday rate is about $140 including tax. Anyone talk to them about a discount? We only paid $90 at Dury's at the St Louis meet and the 2 locations seem to be similiar. I am thinking about making 3 days out of this. Btw, if anyone is scrambling to get a reservation at the hotel (if the hotel is booked solid), PM me by this weekend. I plan to cancel the reservation at that time. I can give the first PM-er a heads up as far as when I cancel and give them my cancelled reservation number for the freed-up room.

Hi. I'm on the NC/SC border and have had my Ridgeline RTL for 8 weeks. Absolutely love it. It is truly the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned (and that comes after a long line of Volvos, Bimmers, etc.). The storage features are just great : the rear cab seats folding up to accomodate my road bike without the need for removing the front wheel, and I've just ordered a rubber pad for the cab roof that allows kayak/canoe hauling without marring the roof. Now, if that bed had just been colored all the way through instead of just a coating! The scratches ruin the appearance of such a beautiful truck.

Yeah, the Ashville meet didn't seem to materialize. How about Murrells Inlet, S.C., there about 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach. I'm always ready for some good seafood.

BTW, Rickjr, thanks for serving and get home safely. I spent a little time at Ft.Bragg myself. My daughter was born there.
