Honda's "free" full tank of gas with delivery was 2 1/2 gallons short for me. Even though the gauge read full, I still was able to squeeze 2 1/2 gallons in. I did this because I wanted an accurate full mileage measurement.
Anyone else do this?:D

That is a great reason not to top off but 2 1/2 gallons? That would have thrown my mileage calculation off severly.

In our galaxy, the proper way to calculate fuel mileage is to fill up until the pump kicks off and calculate the mpg over many fillups using total miles and total gallons. One tankful measurement is not very indicative of overall mileage.
Using your method, the mileage will not be accurate either. How much gas went back into the pump? How much when into your evapoarative system? How much did you overfill your 22 gallon tank?

In your opinion, how much gas can be added ahter the first click. I mean, earth is so complicated, usually my driod just fills the twin ion engine (TIE) fighter and I am good for a parsec or two.

There's no way to know. Oregon still has pump jockeys who normally will wait for the pump to kick off and then fill to the nearest $0.10. I would think you could fill to the nearest dollar and still be safe.
