Official Eclipse 5435 Thread for 2007 ridgelines

I just wanted to get a thread started to explain what works in a rideline for this particular eclipse application (possibly more eclipse units). I am having trouble getting things to work right. The things I am trying to get working is the proper speed pulse and the brake/ground bypass trick. First ......things that were successfull.

The reverse wire for the back-up camera is the skinny green wire in the drivers side kick panel. You can go to it directly in the fuse/harness or go under it and cut off a little electrical tape to expose/splice into it.

Now, some things I am asking for help with from experts like bongus, mugen1, djdj, shvlhd, hoffam, and vpkb.

I tried the trick to ground the brake sense wire so I can let my boy watch dvd's when we are on the road but it does not show as the brake being on. Why wouldnt this trick work? It seemed to work for everyone else but me. I still cant even do point a to point B directions :)

Also: My speed pule is whack. Im getting like 250 miles an hour doing 30. I think this would be less accurate than just leaving it unplugged btu I am wondering if I just need to make another hole in the firewall and tap into the one behind the headlight on the passenger side?

Please try to keep comments to this specific units (at least Eclipse) to make an easily informative and resourceful thread. Thanks for cooperating.

Sorry, I've only had experiences with Kenwood and the old Pioneer unit. From what I've read, you just have to tie the brake sensor wire to the ground wire.

Maybe it's like my Kenwood unit, it gives me the option to enable/disable the saftey feature; i don't even have to ground the brake sensor.

Regarding the pulse sensor, someone said there's 4 wires, one for each wheel. Check out this thread: http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15540

My eclipse 5500 head unit said i was pushin the 250 mph mark for a couple miles. You just have to let it calibrate and figure it out on its own. It takes about ten miles, give or take. If it's still not working, check your wiring, obviously.

As far as the ground, I can't help you there. I wired mine to a self installed switch that basically allows you to turn on and off the parking brake from a little switch mounted between the heated seat buttons.

The brake wire just needs to be grounded. While driving, have your son ground the wire out to a ground point just to test it out. If it works, then find a permanent ground location and put a simple switch between the ground point and the brake sensor wire.

Be thankful you don't have an Alpine. On mine, I have to install a bypass unit, because on an Alpine, you have to step on the foot brake, then pull on the hand brake, then release the foot brake before the screen comes on.... something like that. I just use a module, a PAC TR7, to do this for me automatically.

Anyway, as suggested by others, drive your RL around until it calibrates itself to the speed sensor. My Alpine took a long time before it got things right.

If the thing does not calibrate, try this. I got the info off of a Scion site, I think.

Well while just being curious today I hit the tire change button under settings which apparently puts the 5435 into calibration mode for VSS. I would have thought it would have a more professional name, but thats it. Long story short, my nav is very happy now.

I actually have the brake sense wire grounded to the ground for my receiver. That should be as good as it needs to be. So I take it the brake is a negative pulse when depressed? Mugen, 1 more question, what does the switch do inline with the ground? Maybe thats where Im being dumb? Chi Town, thanks fr the confidence about the calibration. Hopefully it finds itself soon. I will ask my wife to check t on her way from work. y fingers are crossed

I hope the drawing helps... you don't need to have a switch, I guess.

edit: forgot the pic...

I installed the same Eclipse head unit and for the parking break wire I just grounded with the ground for the HU itself. The speed pulse wire is under the passenger kick panel and there are four, one for each wheel. I picked a white with a red strip wire and it works fine, very accurate when you do a system check. There is a thread that has pictures on this site which is where I was able to learn where to find the wire.

Ill have to look for that picture. From reading all the forums, I am pretty sure I have the right white wire wiith a red stripe but I havent been able to check to see if it calibrated yet. I did ground the brake sense wire to the HU ground, but it still does not work properly. Mterp, when you go to Info button>System settings.....where it says brake on (or something like that) does it have a yes there? I was kinda curious why mine is not active. It just sits there and says no like a spoiled brat :) . My reverse registers right now, and I have my sirius antenna routed outside the vehicle now (way better reception), whay cant everything just work, haha? Thanks for all helping out. I will do a summary and finalize some connections to the right wires to hook into when I am finished. Thanks,

Yes under system check it says the parking break is on all the time, and I get an accurate reading of my speed as well. I don't know what else to try, I got lucky and both worked on the first try. I didn't hook up the reverse wire because I do not have a reverse camera so that just sits behind the head unit. If you want I can try to take a pic of the speed sensor wire.

My wife confirmed the speed sense wire calibrated and that is functioning correctly now!!IM happy about that. :) Im still confused why the brake wire is not working since it is grounded at the ground the stereo uses. Maybe I will be able to find ot what was wrong when I have time to pull out the dash again this weekend. Thanks for the help so far. ChiTownRidge, appreciate you giving me hope to "ride it out" adn let the speed sensor calibrate. The weekends work was not in vain. :)

If you don't trust your radio harness ground, then there's a good ground point to the frame behind the radio, to the right of the opening, to the left of the passenger airbag.

Yeah, no problem. The cool thing about the eclipse units is that it tracks your speed using the navigation system as well as the speed pulse. It just takes it a few miles to let the system work it out.
Good luck with the ground! Things can be difficult when it comes to audio. It took me several tries to get everything perfect.
