(I have a former colleague whose husband's name is Labatt. Yep, that Labatt. But she is married into a Louisiana branch of the family that "Creole-ized" and has considered itself African-American for many years. I have some friends in here in La Petite Roche (a.k.a Little Rock) who are also Labatt from New Orleans. However, some time before 1920 they changed their name to Labat when they moved north.
