As I'm typing this, the door bell rang and my Retrax and Guide Rails (2 boxes) are on my front porch and the UPS truck was driving down the street when I opened the door.
On my recent June/July trip from Calif to Ontario Canada I made reservations to stay in a motel in North Forks ND on the way up and on the way back home, normally our last stop entering Canada and first stop leaving.
As you know that is the location of Applied Products Inc and the manufacturing location of the Retrax cover.
I thought I would stop there and purchace one, saving the shipping fee.
When I arrived in North Forks I gave Randy a call and explained what I wanted to do.
He said, "Fine, just give him a call one or two days before coming back through town to make sure all the parts needed for the Ridgeline would be available"
I called a couple days before leaving Canada and talked to Anita Ernst to set things up.
I really didn't want to travel with the Retrax lying in the rear bed overnight while staying at motels going home.
So Anita said they would install it for $25.00 in about 45 minutes to an hour.
That was great because we were staying there in North Forks until the next morning anyway and my brother and his wife were traveling with us and we could drop off the Ridgeline and go back to the motel in their vehicle.
I thought, what a deal and said I will be there the afternoon of our first travel day home.
She set the appointment up for 3:30 - 4:30 pm that day for the install.
She even said the guys would stay late if I couldn't make it on time.
Well, I was on an island for 14 days and 5 miles from land by boat and had to haul tons of luggage and everything else to Sioux Narrows where our vehicles were parked and drive half way across Minnesota and half way down North Dakota to North Forks.
We made it by 2:30pm and checked into our motel.
Called Anita first thing. I was real excited because I was ahead of schedule and we could get this deal done earlier then planned.
Thats when she said there was a problem.
All the parts were not ready. The guide tracks were still at another location getting painted and wouldn't be at their facility until 4am the next morning.
We would be leaving at 6am that morning to pound the highway to get to Billings Montana, our next motel stop
I was so disappointed. We talked for awhile and I asked if I could pick up just the Cover portion and they could ship the guide tracks later.
She said, "Sure".
But I still didn't want to leave it, uninstalled, in the rear bed overnight at motels all the way home.
Anita said, " How about we ship the whole thing free of charge to California when the parts get finished"
She said they were really sorry for the mixup.
So, I got it for $849.00 total.
And it's on my front porch now.
The only draw back was the $25.00 "expert installation" I missed out on.
And they were going charge me $109.00 for the tailgate lock and install it for the hourly rate of the Retrax install even though it takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours for the lock.
Randy and Anita are good people and are great to deal with. Overall I was very satisfied.
