Simplifying Door Speaker Install

Hey guys, like a lot of us, I'll be swapping my OE speakers for Polk 651's. First off, are we all in agreement that the 651's will clear the door panel? The only diff. in size between the 651's and 651s' is 3/8" on the tweeter side, but the specs on the 651's are much better. Also, what really intrigued me from posters like shovelhd, is that there is an adapter ring (made for Accords) that will let me use the existing speaker "clip-in" mounting system. No drilling into the sheetmetal, and no gaps. What do you all think? From what I've heard, the Crutchfield rings are very generic, and need some mods to fit properly. BTW, anyone have a part number for the speaker wiring harness adapter, as well? Thanks!

I don't know about you, but drilling into the door sheet metal is not really a big deal. You'll probably never take it apart again anyway.

I made my rings out of MDF. I don't believe I've seen a direct fit adaptor yet.

Here's a link for the speaker wire adaptor.

i recently did this upgrade and showed the plastic adapters to use and they simply snap right in the existing speakers snaps, u dont have to do any drilling to your doors (simply screw the speakers into the adapters and snap it in), go check it out

Remember that you have less clearance in the rear doors, so, as always, check the fit before you close them up. I used 1" MDF spacers in the front and 5/8" MDF in the rear, and I still had to trim both door panels for clearance.
