SEPHIROTH 07-25-2005, 10:41 AM Iam not a toyota fan and i have never owned any toyotas before but iam just curious of what everyone thinks of it. It does appear to be a good off roader from what i have read.
check it out!!!

arteegee 07-25-2005, 11:21 AM Reminds me of my nephew's Mini S. :)
dratsab 07-25-2005, 11:27 AM I don't know what types of African safaris you plan on, but I just don't like the "throwback" look of it. Three windowshield wipers? It's tri-colored for goodness sake. It looks like a toy truck that someone decided to make into a real truck.
The problem is it's another affordable Toyota, so people are going to buy it. I can't wait to see it on an episode of "Pimp My Ride".
steveberger 07-25-2005, 11:33 AM Looks like an Element on steroids having a bad hair day!

Yea, we've discussed this ad nauseum over at the EOC. some people believe tha tthe FJ is what the Element should've been

I think that it has possibilities.
The vehicle I am really interested in is the Jeep Rescue 4 door Wrangler that the same page has info on.
Halabar 07-25-2005, 01:18 PM If it had been out now, I might have bought one, if the specs were better than the Jeeps. Ultimately, I picked the Ridge over Liberty/Grand-Cherokee based on overall specs and features. If the FJ had been available, it would be interesting to see how it compared.
shovelhd 07-25-2005, 01:38 PM Is it only two doors? Or are those clamshell doors in the back with hidden latches? I don't see how it compares to the Element except in styling.
It has the biggest "C" pillar of any vehicle I've ever seen.
DWdrums 07-25-2005, 02:03 PM I really like this vehicle. I have been eyeing it for a long time and considered waiting for one. BUT, the BIG turnoff for me was the interior. Just a little to cold for me.
Darn it, I remmber seeing some interior pics, but i can't find a single one. My "Google" is weak today.
danimal 07-25-2005, 09:18 PM toyota has a long long history of serious off roading capabilities in their trucks, so i'm not surprised that this one continues the trend. i like it a lot, especially the retro-but-modern look of it.
Ridge 07-25-2005, 11:46 PM I've also been following the progress of the FJ closely. They say the whole interior folds flat which would give it about 8 ft of floor space for camping if true. It will definitly be more off road capable than the Element for those that are looking for that. It will have a more powerful engine with the option of locking rear diff.

shovelhd 07-26-2005, 05:53 AM Now that is one bizarre interior :)

Your Google is stong my master. Dam it, that's the exact site I was looking for too. Nice Find. I stand pat, tha interior is sooooooo hard and " Jeep" looking.
I don' know man, just doesn't look warm and comfortable
Had the old FJ. If this one is as capable, should be a good seller.
arteegee 07-26-2005, 11:09 AM Very utilitarian. ;)
bellteck 07-26-2005, 01:36 PM So this is what you would get if you Mated a Land Cruiser with an Echo.
jeffiam 07-26-2005, 02:09 PM Liked It Until I Saw The Interior..........ouch.
methodtim 07-26-2005, 02:46 PM I think Toyota's whole design team (or teams as the case may be) should be shown the door. All their vehicles look so gimmicky nowadays. What ever happened to simplicity being beautiful?
shovelhd 07-26-2005, 07:06 PM Most concept vehicles morph into something more mainstream. Take a look at what the Ridgeline started out as.
ROColorado 07-26-2005, 08:43 PM Apparently it comes with roof rack, splash guards, and full sized spare installed.

I couldn't agree more. Very well said.
methodtim 07-27-2005, 10:37 AM Right, but I wasn't just referring to the FJ. Look at today's 4-runner compared to that of just a few years ago. I think the most recent design iteration of that vehicle is butt ugly. Other examples include the Matrix, Prius, Lexus SUV's, etc. I do think the Solara looks good, but other than that, Toyotas have gotten so ugly. Obviously, this is just this one man's opinion, so take what I say with a huge grain of salt. :)
TimmiT 08-03-2005, 06:11 PM And people call the RL ugly?
That thing is a beast (in looks). As far as the interior goes, there is no way that will make it to market like that. I guess as they start getting consumer opinion, they will need to make it at least "look" comfortable to convice people to try it out. Also, I think the colors will tone down on the inside. That yellow guage panel is brighter than a safety vest on a construction worker. How would you see him/her?
That all being said, the trends have been going towards more realistic concepts, with fewer changes as they get to production. They will probably sell well.
BannedUser 08-03-2005, 06:21 PM I would buy it to go baja-ing in. :D
I have been looking at the Jeep Wranglers for quite some time. However, that FJ cruiser, depending on what the final production model looks like, could be a replacement for the Camry.
