Yesterday, I had my Honda dealer install a back up camera into my 2007 Ridgeline. It took them 3 days to accomplish the task. First the part was out, then they broke the wiring harness...then it was ready. When I got into the car, and started it, I immediate put the truck into reverse. I watched the "Honda Navigation Screen" for about 10 seconds and waited...then the backup camera came on. I put the truck in park and then put it into reverse again and the camera image immediately came on. It seems that when you start the car, the Navigation splash screen comes on for 10 seconds and putting the vehicle in reverse does not remove it, but if the car already started, the camera comes on immediately. Having used other vehicles with back up cameras, I can't believe this is right....Did the installer forget to make a software selection?

Sounds "normal" to me. It makes sense that the system has to finish booting and loading the program that is responsible for displaying the camera image in order for the software to detect the presence of the reverse signal.

It is an engineering issue not a dealer issue.

The computer will not switch to the video input (camera) until the software is loaded. There is no reason that this code couldn't load first.

This is the way all Honda/Acura rear back-up cameras operate. Very annoying! They should check out Infiniti's cameras.
