bakflip bed cover problems

I have now owned my bakflip cover and am somewhat disappointed with its performance. It leaks very badly and recently came apart. The first problem that I encountered was the side seals becoming unglued from the cover. After contacting the vendor, they shipped me two new seals claiming that they had been getting reports of bad adhesive. After spending a lot of time cleaning off the old seal, I installed the new ones which after 3 months also began to peel off. After thinking about it, I'm not surprised that they come off because as the panels are flipped back the rubber seal has to compress or it will come unglued from the hinge. Once that occurs the seal continues to buckle slowly peeling back from the hinge on both sides. I finally just removed them because they began to look so bad.
In addition to the loss of the side seals, now the hinges between panels have begun to leak. I can no longer consider the cover as providing water protection since everything inside gets wet from all the leaks.
The final disappointment was when the back panel came loose from the hinge. I can only assume that this panel came loose because we use it the most. I have reglued it but suspect I may have to mechanically attach them in the future.
So overall, I am disappointed with this cover although the idea for the way it folds and stores is good. They just need to solve some of the engineering problems for it to last.

I agree that the Bakflip has been problematic: I am on my third one having recently installed the new G2 design. One think that you cannot fault with this company is the customer service. My first cover leaked-they sent another, no questions asked. Had various other problems--they call back and do whatever you want and send replacement parts promptly. After a year, the cover started falling apart at the hinge, they sent the new redesign immediately. I thought about looking into a different cover as other companies have begun supplying for the Ridgeline, but I just really like the functionality of this cover. I would suggest that you call or email the company and let them know of your problem. In my experience, they will take care of your problems.

I purchased my Bakflip at the beginning of June. I had a minor problem that I called them about and they sent me an additional seal. Then in August I had the seems & tape between the panels come apart. They told me they were going to send new tape, but after a couple of weeks that never showed up. Then I finally was informed that they would replace my cover with the new G2 version. After two months of e-mails and calls I finally received my new cover. In my experience, you NEED to stay on top of them. They kept telling me that they would contact me, but I never heard from them, but they did finally come through with the replacement.
The G2 seems better than the first version, but does not have the gas struts to hold the panels up. As most people have experienced, the newer version did not come with any instructions. A $ .10 photo copy would be nice.
Good luck!
