10 am
Mystic Seaport (http://www.mysticseaport.org/) (Mystic, CT)
(I-95, exit 90) Park and meet across the street from the Seaman's Inne parking lot to the right, behind pond.
LINK to MAP: 105 Greenmanville Ave, Mystic, CT (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=105+Greenmanville+Ave,+Mystic,+CT+06355,+USA&sll=41.363057,-71.96311&sspn=0.009856,0.016372&ie=UTF8&ll=41.366922,-71.957102&spn=0.019711,0.046821&z=15&om=1)

The parking lot is EASY to find. After you get off of I-95, head south through about 3 to 4 lights within a very short distance. Then there is about a mile until the next light. You will turn left at that light and then into the parking lot. Pull to the back corner (away from the road)

Mystic Seaport is doing their Field Days that weekend.
Special activities include:
19th-century games on the Village Green for the whole family; a creative puppet-making workshop in our Inspiration Station; fabulous Planetarium programs; and rollicking songs of the sea in our "Tales and Tunes" program.

Keith's notes
It took ~4 hours to go through it all, and that is with me skipping the little movies and a couple of small buildings.

GREAT tip... whatever the temperature is, subtract off 10-15 degrees from that and that is what it feels like after an extended time outside and the wind chill. I will be bringing a winter hat and a bit heavier jacket than I think I might need. You can always cool off, but you can't warm up.

- In Historic Mystic, Santa arrives by tugboat (2pm), then at 6pm, there is a tree lighting ceremony, Christmas carols, and a lighted boat parade.

This would be my first ROC event... sounds interesting.

I'd be interested in Mystic or the Casino..depending on the day, weather and holiday events.

Coming down from Seacoast of NH.

Such a cool bunch of places to select from! Sadly, there is no way that I could make it to another Northeast meet.

One thing to mention: If you do New Haven, the entire Green area beside the campus is littered with open wi-fi, so there is no reason the rest of us can't see what's going on. Just bring your laptops and webcams, OK? Also: the 6 square blocks just south of the Green are full of the most diverse array of ethnic restaurants I've found outside of New York City.

That's my 2˘ for this thread ;-)

this is a tough season for us as we're pretty much committed for every weekend between now and the middle of January . . . but decide on something and we'll do our best to join in for a day trip . . . Mystic Seaport or the USS Nautilus sound appealing . . . according to our friends the diehard weekend gamblers (they definitely qualify as "whales"), Foxwoods is a bit rundown and they recommend Mohegan Sun as a much nicer experience

btw, let's go easy on the new kid, he's still trying to find the box with his towels and has to dry off with old t-shirts when he gets out of the shower! :D

This time of year is also tough for me. November has me at hockey rinks for 28 hours, mostly scattered over the weekends. No idea what December will bring. Mostly the same I assume. Oh the things you do for your kids...:D

I'll watch and see what get's planned. Maybe I can squeeze some time in. I just have to meet my favorite Yankees/Canadiens fan who drives one of them Red Ridgelines...;)

A holiday theme would be nice. I can tell u that the steam train is fun, but this time of year the riverboat would be too cold if they even run it this time of year.

I am up for the Seaport. Being from the area you could combine the Seaport and offer Foxwoods or the Sun as an after destination. Personally I like the Sun better (more personal and better payout ratios). Set it up and try a survey at this point.

BAI am thinking Mystic Seaport as a starting point, then to Mohegan Sun for dinner for those who wish to continue on.

I am also thinking that early in December (Saturday 12/1) is best as holiday parties seem to take over the month.

Does anyone know of an easy place to meet around/in the Mystic Seaport?

19th-century games on the Village Green for the whole family;
a creative puppet-making workshop in our Inspiration Station;
fabulous Planetarium programs; and
rollicking songs of the sea in our "Tales and Tunes" program.

All this in addition to our regular schedule of activities, including:

demonstrations aboard our tall ships;
daily music programs;
and exciting, interactive exhibits.

As it turns out, I will be passing right by the Mystic Seaport on Saturday, the 24th, on my way to Mohegan Sun. I'll be at my folks' place in RI and we have tickets to the Cirque show (2:30pm) at the Sun. I'll try to talk the wife into stopping at the Seaport. First, though, I'll have to talk "Grandma" into a couple extra hours of babysitting.:rolleyes:

Can't say for sure I'll be able to stop, but I WILL try...

This is shaping up to be a very nice mini-meet and wish that I could be there to represent the "whities" - however, while the family is generally okay with my RL addiction it would be unforgivable to desert them during what has become our biggest family holiday weekend of the year! Ya'll have a great time and post lots of pics.

Did run into an RL owner yesterday (Silver '06) in the OfficeMax parking lot up in Cortlandt Manor who wasn't aware of the ROC and pointed him here as he's experiencing some of the transmission shift problems other early owners have seen, so perhaps I recruited a new member.

Would if I could but there's too many of them (16 in all) and there are too many activities already planned and I would surely be disowned and permanently in the dog house were I to bail on them. :( However, we've got a very active and vibrant group of ROCers up here in the NE and there will be other opportunities.

Who knows? We might even get something together for the wilds of Vermont one of these days - it's less than 4 hours from anywhere in the Northeast, we've got tons of outlet shopping for the gals, decent golf courses, some great restaurants, wonderful scenery and abundant wildlife. Something for everyone.

oh yeah, almost forgot the outstanding local cheeses, beers and my favorite - Woodchuck Draft Cider!

I realize that there is not a lot of detail while at the Mystic Seaport, that is due to that I have never been there. So, I'm going to check it out tomorrow. Another reason is that the ladies seem to change the plans when they see shopping opportunities! :rolleyes: :D

I have no worries that there will be plenty to see and do, but what order, I don't know.

Downtown Mystic, on the other side of the drawbridge, has lots of little shops. There's a great kids toy and games store right by the bridge. There are also lots of artsy little shops that I would expect would be open for Christmas shopping. There's a nice pub around the middle of the main drag that has good food and cheap beer. If you want to do the tourista deal, go to Mystic Pizza, which was the place they created the movie about. It's past the pub on the other side of the street.

k757
11-11-2007, 05:25 PM
I went there today and did the tourist thing/scout trip.

The parking lot/rally point is EASY to find. After you get off of I-95, head south through about 3 to 4 lights within a very short distance. Then there is about a mile until the next light. You will turn left at that light and then into the parking lot. Pull to the back corner (away from the road)

It took ~4 hours to go through it all, and that is with me skipping the little movies and a couple of small buildings.

The boating-Santa is in the downtown Historic Mystic area, not at the Seaport. The Seaport does have a special event that day, but it is for children. Kids will be able to play old-fashioned games that kids of yesteryear played.

There is an entry fee for the Seaport, but it's worth it. Very cool stuff.

GREAT tip... whatever the temperature is, subtract off 10-15 degrees off of that and that is what it feels like after extended time outside and the wind chill. I will be bringing a winter hat and a bit heavier jacket than I think I might need. I can always cool off, but you can't warm up.

Just thinking that maybe we could meet at the Centre of New England complex, it has a Home Depot, Wal-Mart etc, is right off and on for the highway. It is Exit 7 coming 95 south, Mystic is about 30 minutes from here. Could meet in one of the parking lots, probably the Wal-Mart, it is huge and then caravan from there. Bsaically anyone from RI or Mass could meet here if they wanted.

I replied to this one this morning, but apparently I missed something on the submit, I was thinking we could meet starting about 9:00, do kind of a pre-meet and hit the road about 9:30, it is abut 30 minutes to Mystic from here.

I would like to confirm the time of the meet. If I read right the following is the right time and place. If I'm wrong please post it again
Time: Mystic, 10 AM across the street in a parking lot.
Would like know the head count of trucks going to Mohgen Sun.
I know of Jersey Ridge and Bobwhite and me going to Mohgen.

Your the guy who started this meet and you are asking the rally point:confused:The "rally point time" I was referring to was the people discussing rallying together on the way to the meet. The people coming from RI and MA as they are planning on meeting near the CT/RI border and rolling in together.

No one brought up hotels again....I'm trying to iron some things out so we can make this meet to. From the information you guy's provided,I'm sure the kids will love it. :)

Thanks to keith for the Baja matchbox.

It was a great time. Thanks to the other Keith for putting the outing togather. It was fun to meet Bruce, Joe, Keith, Mike, Bob, Brook, Al, and others who's names I can not recall at this time. (It doesn't take a lot to overwelm a simple mind!)
I did not go to the sun, did we have any winners there?

I did not go to the sun, did we have any winners there?No one gambled, but we all enjoyed seeing the hugeness of the place. Plenty of opportunity for them to separate you and your money. Brook (Mrs. BobTWhite) tempted fate (security) by breaking out the camera and snapping off a few photos. :eek:

It was nice to see old and new faces. I sorry I was late to the meet, but I made it. It was 31 degree and I would say, "that cold". I would have stayed a little longer at the meet, But my wife and friends was cold and hungry. So we left, got warmed up and eat. I headed to my hotel, that I booked and then went to the Sun. It was good to see Bobwhite and Jersey Ridge at the same Hotel. LOLOLO. My friend says, "thanks guys for the gifts".
Bob, I got up late 9:00 and I didn't see you truck. So I figured you lifted.
The Sun was very good to me. Up $235.00.
Hope all got home safe. Sunday was warm 51 degree and we went back to Mystic and had a good day.

Al,

We saw the do not disturb sign on your door when we woke up and figure you all had a late night. We had a quick bite at the hotel and then took off. We enjoyed meeting new people, Mystic, the Sun, and all the cool trucks. We will be sure to make more meets in the future. The people we met were just great.

Hello All.....Just wanted to say what a Great Time we had,and We Really Enjoyed Ourselves in Connecticut !!! Thanks Keith for putting the meet together,Bob, for the Mystic Seaport information you posted for us members,and Alan for the Hotel connection,I sincerely can't thank you enough. It's always great to come to these meets, and was really nice to see the familiar faces,and good to meet the other members for the first time. There's just never enough time in a day to get to enjoy the company of those we meet. We moved to the parking lot right across from the Seaport before we went in. I should have mentioned that to you guy's when we were in line getting our entrance tickets,but I guess Ariel and Alan(mostly Alan...lol)had my attention elsewhere.....:rolleyes::eek: :) We hung around the Seaport to catch Santa,and after leaving the Seaport we headed to Mystic Pizza to eat(Tagged a Gray Ridgeline, on our way... I think it was Bay Street).We got to the Hotel around 5:00,and headed out to Mohegan Sun around 6:30. After leaving Mohegan around 9:00,we headed up to Manchester to eat at Hops,where we met My Nephew and his Family(he is the GM there and was working last night). It was just about 1AM when we got back to the hotel. We didn't get down for breakfast till just about 10,sorry we missed you guy's there too. We headed home at 11, and made real good time(lucked out both times,2hrs 20mins there...2hrs 40mins going home). To all again it was nice seeing you's, and Alan,thank you again.and please pass on our thanks to Ty. The Boy's,Beth and myself had a WONDERFUL TIME !!! As always..... will be looking forward to the next meet !!! Glad to see all the pictures and happy to hear all had a Great Time !!! :cool: See ya next time....

wow, this looked like fun but cold. If EOC'ers were welcome I would have shot down. It's not that far. So, if you all ever want joint meets with EOC'ers, drop a note on the EOC site and I'm sure we'd come. We had a ball at the National meet and yes, those seats are fun. I tried some at the National, (maybe the same ones, don't know).

Mystic Seaport is a great place.
Glad you all had fun.

I would also like to revive the idea of a drive in meet.......what do you think?

regards,
jurn

jurnthis occurred last year and at the time, no one thought of the EOC joining in on the fun. Things have since changed. :D
