Headache Rack?

Plundering around Googles Picasa photo site, I happened on this picture. The captions on this series are in some sort of Scandinavian lingo (Danish? Swedish? Lake Wobegonish?), so I don't know what they say. I haven't seen a "headache rack" for the Ridgeline before. (Or is this a "Biddle cage"?) Has anyone else seen anything like this stateside? Sources? This looks practical, as I've come close to losing back glass to a lawnmower...

This is an item I want if a source can be identified. I also have come close to losing the rear window to a lawnmower.

What web address did that come from? If it is on someone's web page that would be good. I have friends that speak Dutch, Swedish, German, Spanish, Israeli, Russian and English of course. :-) Let's get this translated. I like that accessory!

I was just messing around on the Google "Picasa" website & did a search for "Honda Ridgeline." I just re-checked & this is the album (http://picasaweb.google.com/www.wagen/HondaRidgelineLasterom). I seem to recall seeing some of these photos on the ROC over a year ago. One appears to be an LPG conversion or something like that...

http://www.wagen.no/

It is a Norwegian dealer who has posted many videos on You Tube. Translation and source of this device would be great unless we have a talented entrepreneur willing to tackle a new mod.

Do we have any ROCsters from Lake Wobegon, Minnesota? Maybe someone from the Sons of Knute Lodge can translate...

Hey, try this. Go to http://www.translation-guide.com/free_online_translators.php?from=Norwegian&to=English and enter in www.wagen.no.
Unfortunately, you need to enter each individual webpage address in this translator. You cannot clik a link on the wagen.no homepage and go to the next page already translated like Google Language Tools would do.

Norwegian...I'm at a loss there. I did do the translation of the web page but it is all laughably mistranslated and I can't find where they might have hidden the accessories section. *le sigh*

I like the concept, but if I'm looking at it correctly it appears it is only fastened at the bottom. If so, I'm sure our bumpy and potholed roads would cause that thing to rattle against the rear of the cab. Hopefully there's something I'm missing.

Talk about a headache rack!

Oh look again chemosabbie (sp? :D ), it has those quality rubber foamie thingies to prevent that dreaded knock / rattle / WTH is that sound

I beleive that this is the Ridgeline that has the alternate fuel tank in the trunk and the center console has been replaced by a third seat! I think they do this so that the Ridgeline will qualify as a van and not a truck resulting in a substantial tax savings in their home country.

Looks like they stuffed about 18" of rubber extrusion in the gap between the "cage" & the window frame...

Now that I'm on my home computer (better monitor), I see what your talking about. Originally, I thought what your pointing out was the window gasket. :o

I think the grid is too big to be used as a pizza rack anyway, Joe. :D

Ok, here it is.
I will be in Europe for several weeks this summer (2008). If anyone finds a source in Europe, preferably Germany or Switzerland, I can arrange a mass shipment to my own company. I am definitely open to importing a few of these. But if someone else already went through the trouble of getting some over here, let me know, I am buying one.

Cheers.

My RTL shipment is delayed due to weather...bummer.:(

Just emailed the Norwegian dude, so I will post some infos once I have his reply. Hope the guy speaks English...would hate to make a Viking mad. They know how to cross the ocean and wreaking havoc...

Maybe I can save you some trouble. I pm'd "kindem" last summer after he posted the pic of the grill covering the rear window. He replied and I failed to share with everyone. Seems the grill was a custom. Following is his reply.......

Is there any chance you could share the source with us?

Thanks very much,

hi Bob

this "mesh grill" is something authorities demand us to put on the vehicle. We have to put it on all pickups and the reason is to avoid cargo to enter the cabin if a crash happens. We've made it ourselves and the cost is about Nok 3000 which is about $ 550. It's made of steel and we have to prove it's strength. Please feel free to ask more if u want to. I guess there's quite a difference between US and Norwegian laws. Authorities in Norway are very very ... must I say more :-)

Thanks for a very informative post. Might be a market for something like this..carbon fiber or molded plastic..what were the tanks above the spare in the album???????? We spend our GNP policing the earth and they spend theirs protecting the vehicle passengers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fellas,

I plan to fabricate a headache rack for the RL that mounts to the existing tie down points. I used to fabricate bumpers and tire carriers for my Ranger and others when I was into offroading.

Let me know if you are interested.

I will call on steel prices to see how bad they are these days and let you know how much I am thinking.

My plan is a simple square tube construction. I can obviously customize a rack to an extent.

I modified the Back Rack from my Silverado. Works great to protect the window when I load the ATV. Also use it to carry a 32' extension ladder.

HH4,

That is very similar to what I am thinking except the overall "trapezoid" if you will, will be 1.5" square tubing instead of flat bar.

Ive looked up prices and cant find a headache rack for a RL, so maybe Ill have a small niche for now:D But I see on average they cost around $250-$300. I think I can do something like that for that or less. Ball park I am thinking around $175.

I'd prefer one like that Norwegian firm had custom built - it looks stock!
