Changing Stock Radio

I am not one to mess around with a vehicle and usually just keep whatever it comes with (other than exterior accessories), however, I am really interested in switching out the stock radio for something nicer. Maybe something with DVD/Back up camera abilities/GPS, my question I guess would be, does it hurt the value of a vehicle to change out the stock radio? If I did this, I would have it down by a local shop that is known for their modifications on vehicles so it would be done right. Any input is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Just keep the old radio and speakers, and instruct the shop to use the proper harness adapters and not cut any wires. That way you can have them swap it all back out when you sell. You can always leave it in, but you won't get anywhere near the true value of the upgrade by doing this. You're better off swapping it back out and selling the components on your own.

Thanks Shovelhd, I never really thought about that. I plan on keeping my 2007 RL until the new redesigned ones come out, then I plan on upgrading to the newer model. Thanks for the advice, I will make sure I ask them to do this for me.

I also agree. I always keep the stock radio and any other stock part. And when I sell or trade the vehicle in I put the stock back in. I just put in a aftermarket stereo in last weekend and it was very easy. Just read all the threads about it, and get the right parts.

NiteRider,

Thanks for the advice, but I know my limitations! I wouldn't even begin to think that I could take a radio out and but something else in. I don't know much about anything when it comes to vehicles except that I like to drive my RL. I know if I want it done right, I need to pay a professional to do it :D

Nothing wrong with that.

If the shop gives you the parts back in a box, wrap them in plastic or plastic bags and put them on a shelf. That's where mine are.

Good luck and enjoy your new ride.
