Has any body installed a remote start kit? Any pros-cons? What brand used?

I use the Viper.

Here's a tip, remove the batteries from your factory keys.

If you accidently arm the factory security system, then unlock (or start) using the third-party device, then it is 'honk-a-palooza' time. ;)

I also have a Clifford, matrix 50 to be exact. Highly recommended and I didn't need to sacrifice a key, which is a plus.

I had a Code Alarm on my last vehicle...It failed miserably! After about 18 months of use, it decided to try and start the engine when it was already running! I ended up having to put a new starter and flywheel on it ($800) sorry, still a sore subject with me! I certainly hope you have better luck than I did.

I have an Audiovox brand that was free from the dealer. It's free and it works every time. Can't complain. Good luck

With the Clifford Matrix, it has a starter kill, meaning it is impossible to try to start the car with the engine on (AKA it won't crank when the car is running, even when you using the key in the ignition switch). Its pretty useful and can save this from happening, obviously.

Great tip on removing the batteries from factory key...didn't think of that one! Thanks yabado...

As far as alarms & remote starts go....

Had a Viper 5900 alarm/remote start installed & love it! It was a bit pricey at 650 after taxes and install (alarm itself was 450.) It is completely worth it, though. Will start from 1 mile away & gives feedback to remote to let you know it has been started. Alarm also gives feedback to remote if someone tries to break in (or even just hits your car with their car door!)

Would recommend it to anyone - especially for the winter!
