SquireSCA 12-05-2007, 04:50 PM I got pricing at my dealer, and basically, the cost is just about double what the parts would cost me at Handa-Accessories.com
So, I am looking for the black running boards(do not like the side step), the bed extender, the roof rack and possibly the front bumper guard thingie.
The bed extender looks easy.
But the other items, I am not sure about, as they involve drilling and/or cutting to mount, and I am not sure I want to take the chance on messing something up with an '08 RTL.
But, I am pretty mechanical, I can take apart motorcycles and am fairly handy with tools.
What's involved? Is it easily done by myself, or should I just say fuggit and cough up the extra $800 or so to have the dealer do it?
breakfastchef 12-05-2007, 04:57 PM The HandA website includes links to pdf installation files. Check them out and decide if you are pu to the tasks.
shovelhd 12-05-2007, 04:58 PM They involve minor drilling and cutting.
RidgeX5 12-05-2007, 06:55 PM To install the roof rack you will have to pull off the two factory strips on the roof line and then install clamps to hold down the rack and then install the rack to the clamps, done with bolts.
The front bumper guard will require you to remove the front bumper which is held on by about 12-13 bolts/screws and then snaps off. After that you will drill something like 10 holes that are already marked on the inside of the bumper for the new brush guard. Then you just mount the guard to the bumper screw in the screws from the back and then remount the bumper to the truck.

djeaux 12-05-2007, 11:32 PM To each his own, of course, but I think the OEM front bumper "guard" thing is a lot of work for very little (if any) functionality & a highly debatable "improvement" in appearance.
Again, just my http://www.djeaux.com/images/chaos/twocents.gif

Again, just my http://www.djeaux.com/images/chaos/twocents.gifI was about to say the same thing. There are plenty of more functional pieces for less money.
One thing to note, once you install the OEM guard, there is no going back without removing the bumper and getting a new one. The aftermarket ones bolt onto the frame.

I am torn on that one. It does make the truck look nicer from some angle, not so much from others.
The running boards and roof rack do help, and are functional.
You are in Danbury? My ex-wife lives up there, grew up there in fact. She is the same age as you, so if you went to school there, you might know her. LOL
djeaux 12-06-2007, 08:09 AM Also, if you install the OEM "brush guard" & don't like it, you're stuck with a bunch of holes drilled in the front bumper cover. See the link in my "sig" for my preference in front end decoration ... which I think is also a fuzz more functional, at least as a WalMart shopping cart deflector! If I get tired of it (can't imagine why), I'll only have two small slots cut in the plastic splash pan under the front end...
The running boards and roof rack do help, and are functional.I prefer the tube bars (nerf bars) to the running boards, but again, it's preference. You are in Danbury? If she's nice, I'll be her friend. :p :D

Well, she is on her third marriage, two of them being in the past year alone. She cheated on me, twice, and was trying to get pregnant with her boyrfriend in CT while married and living with me in Atlanta.
Other than that, she is a fine person. LOL

I have no need to protect the guilty. haha
Alright, back to the topic. Any other ideas for making the truck look good, without it looking overdone?
Scottacious 12-06-2007, 01:53 PM Running boards are pretty easy to install. Used the $1.87 rivnut thread for basic install. Add some window vent shades as they look good. Fill the "trunk" with beer.
Alright, back to the topic. Any other ideas for making the truck look good, without it looking overdone?I like everything I have done to mine, but taste varies.
My suggested top inexpensive mods for all Ridges
Mudguards
ROC decal
aftermarket Door moldings (I have a chrome version) (to prevent door dings)
Full size spare
Silverstar headlights (kept the factory in case of emergency burnout)
Chrome turn signals (front) (kept the factory in case of emergency burnout)
I'll spare everyone from my photos this time....click the link in my signature, which will take you to all sorts of photos on my photobucket site
MrAC1980 12-07-2007, 08:55 AM WoW guess you guys didn't know what you were getting yourselves into there, hahaha... I would recommend an aftermarket bull bar over the factory bs brush guard. I got the $150 bull bar on eBay made by Hunter. Decent bar, easy to install and great place to mount fog lights. Match them up with chrome tube steps and a rear chrome hitch step/bar and you're set. Plus everything I just mentioned in total will probably cost you just the same as just the factory brush guard, lol.

Prices:
Bull Bar $150
Tube Steps 189
Hitch Step $115
Total is $454 to your door!
Factory bs Brush Guard alone $350!
The factory bar is molded plastic filled with foam?
Sorry I'm just not a fan of factory accessories, but which ever you do, the truck will look amazing. Good luck... and I'll save everyone the trouble of stating... PICS! haha.
