Has anyone successfully installed 6.5" Polk Momo components without customization? Crutchfield listed these as fitting with the supplied bracket, but from my first attempt of checking, there is no way. There is almost no "taper" from the face of the woofer to the magnet. Crutchfield insists that this bracket will allow it to fit, but this baby isn't going in further than a couple of inches.

Is this an issue with depth, or daimeter of the woofer basket? The baskets on my Focal mids were too big to fit, I had to trim sheet metal on the door panel. Trimming the metal isn't as bad as it sounds, it's painful at first, but you'll forget all about it once you get everything put back together. :)

If what you say is correct, and the Polk’s don't fit with the supplied bracket, that's a pretty seldom made mistake by crutchfield (in my opinion).
I rarely buy from them, but I almost always check with them to see if my purchases will fit.
I opted against the 6.5" Polk Momo's because I'd read here that the tweeters cannot be flush mounted in the sails. I went with BA SX60's instead for just that reason.
Have you called Crutchfield?
Well, best of luck. I hope it works out for the best.

Well, I called Crutchfield and told them the basket was too large and there was no chance these could fit. Tech support said it should fit according to the information they had. I can see how they would think these fit. The information they have has the opening diameter at 5" +. As most of you know the opening is skull shaped with 5" + clearance vertically. The width however is much more narrow.
Ultimate answer unfortunately is that these do not fit without some cutting.

Without more info on what adapters you are working with, I don't know if this will be helpful, relevant, or exactly what you've already tried. Here goes...
When I got my speakers (Polk db6500 - not sure how similar the baskets are to the Momos) from Crutchfield, they sent along the 'Geo/Toyota SAPs 1998-up, 5.25" 1998-up, 5.25"/6.5"' brackets. I used some of the inner mounting indentations on the brackets and the stock mounting holes to get the brackets mounted, then mounted the speaker to the remaining inner mounting indentations. The woofers went in without a problem, no trimming needed.
Hopefully, the pictures will make all that a little clearer.
Again, not knowing how similar the overall shape of the woofers or what you've already tried, I hope this isn't exactly what you attempted with less than favorable results.

The problem is the massive basket. I went to the local install shop and had them round out the openings, no problems now. The installer said he actually has to do this a lot with Hondas. They call it the honda skull opening. I'm sure that it is a rare instance where 6.5"s don't fit, not including depth issues. Just too big of a basket. I'll get some pics up when I get a chance to get them in. I'm hoping I can get the time on Thursday.
This whole thing started with wanting an aux jack and I'm about $1400 in now. I could have my HDTV, well, close to it anyway.
The journey continues...........

Welcome to the club. My original budget was $3500 and I'm at least $1K over that. But I'm done.
