Wish I had a camera. The Ridge as a tow truck.
Was visiting friends out of town for the weekend. We got a great snow storm. A foot or a little more. The side streets in town hadn't seen a plow even a day later. My buddy drives a 2006 F250. Crew cab and 8' box. It's as big as a bus. He paid $10G more than my Ridge. It's a real truck, he told me last summer...
Well he was stuck in the middle of his street. When I pulled up, he was shovelling around the wheels, trying to move from his icy ruts. I had a tow strap, and hooked on. Towed him the entire 4 blocks home, as he would keep getting stuck. After unhooking, I pulled over into a snowdrift about 2' high, and parked it there. (Yes, a little showboating at this point). He muttered something about having 200 lbs of concrete in his box, should've had traction, was getting better tires tomorrow, etc. Meanwhile, I don't think I even got a wheel to spin all weekend. It was invincible. On the drive home Monday morning, we counted 25 vehicles still in the ditch along a one hour stretch of highway. 6 of them semis. The Ridgeline is the ultimate snow and winter vehicle.

Digital cameras should be standard equipment on the RL!!:)

Yeah, I want to see a dash-cam as a factory option.:D
What your buddy should realize is that unless he sprung for the optional locking rear diff and limited slip front diff, he only pushes with 2 of his four contact patches. The RL can use all 4 contact patches and proportion the torque as needed. Ain't it sweet!

You are so nice.... I would have left him there until he cried mercy and admitted the RL was a real truck....

I would have made him tell you that the Ridgeline is a real truck and his so called real truck is not worthy before I towed him an INCH.

That's totally cool that the RL did so well in the snow as well as doubling as a tow truck. When you were towing your buddy, did you just leave the VSA on and let the RL do its thing, or did you turn it off and use the VTM lock? I wish we could get a decent snowfall so I could join in the fun. Better start working on my snow dance. :D

Better start working on my snow dance. :D
I'd share my snow dance but it involves nudity, alcohol, swearing at the sun and howling at the moon. It works great but the neighbors get upset during the lengthy performance and during the resultant blizzard. It would likely be a huge hit on youtube.com. :D

I used the VTM lock in first gear. Don't think I turned off the VSA. But I guess I should've. Don't recall any problems though.

A lengthy performance in a blizzard...
One word. Frostbite.
Ouch.

That's one of the reasons that alcohol was added to the dance and, now that I think about it, many of my buddies now refer to me as numb-nuts. ;)

I sure wish some of my die-hard Ford buddies would have seen that tow job for themselves. They have always busted on me because I preferred Chevy's over Ford's. We'll times change, and you get older faster, now I'm in my new 07 RTL and lovin it....

Your neighbors need to lighten up and get with the program - I can see it now, an entire neighborhood engaged in a drunken, wild, naked snow dance - sure to be a Top 10 hit on youtube.

Based on my observations, it depends on how much alcohol is involved. :p

Good story about a "real" truck. I also like your advise about arguing with idots. Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

I love my RTL but this is clearly about having 4wd versus not, not so much real truck Ford Chevy etc.
I have helped a couple of neighbors driving a Chevy Trailblazer and 1500 work truck and s10 2wd out of a ditch with my wife's Oldsmobile Bravada and i did so so they would very well not feel bad as I could have pulled em out with my Audi A6 Quattro.
Yeah I hate to start controversy but I have owned some very capable trucks that get no respect like the Olds Bavada and Mercury Mountaineer. Every bit as powerful as their counterparts (blazer and explorer) but a whole lot more comfortable, cheaper and with better warranties and service from their respective dealer then the tough guy truck.
When I am done with the RTL I may replace it with whatever Buick or Mercury's version of the 4wd is in a couple of years.

Amen. Beer goggles should only be so strong. Having beer goggles as strong as the Hubble telescope is not a good thing.

I agree with you about the Montaineer versus the Explorer. The Mercury was much more comfortable.I love my RTL but this is clearly about having 4wd versus not, not so much real truck Ford Chevy etc.
