Navigation Map Jiggles

I have a 3 month old '07 Ridgeline. Position indicator icon does not stay centered on the road. It's usually off to right or left of center by up to 1/8" and jumps to right and left of road centerline while driving. Icon in my '03 Pilot was always dead center of the road. Test drove an '08 Ridgeline and the map "jiggled" like mine does. Is this normal? My wife's '02 Odyssey icon stays dead center. More pronounced while zoomed in to the closest view. Anyone else have this issue?

I have an '08 with navi. The only time mine jiggles is if the road dissapears. There is a road near my house that is recently finished. The part of the road that the navi does not know about, the position indicator jumps back and forth laterally about 1/8". When it finds that we are back on the road again, it stops the jiggle dance.

have you read the manual, I believe there is a calibration for it. Either in the settings or maybe you have to hold the menu, cancel, and map button in for a few seconds and go to the secret menu.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the "secret" menu to see if there's something there. The dealer wouldn't do anything for it since the same thing happened on an '08. I even called American Honda corporate offices and have them working on it. I should hear back from them tomorrow. My map jiggles on roads that are in the database and have been in existence for years. Your indicator icon is dead center on known roads, no jiggly map?

Here Paul I got this a couple of years ago on v6p.net, it was for my accord, but the navi is almost the same except the trip computer and ac controls. so here try this stuff.

Some Navi Tricks <-- must look for NAVI owners

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just thought I'd share a few Navi tips that I've discovered, all of
which are either fairly obvious or documented in the manual...but who
doesn't like a good list?

1. Using the 'detour' feature to change up a boring drive. Works best
if you're tired of treading along a 10 lane interstate at double digit
speeds and have some time to burn. Just hit 'menu' and 'detour' and it
will (usually) take the next exit and keep you headed the same
direction. Most of the time, it will rejoin the road you're on 10-30
miles up the road, but that's long enough to break up the boredom.

2. This has to be in the manual...i just discovered it by playing
around. Press the 'Map', 'Menu' and 'Cancel' buttons simultaneously
for a few seconds. You get into a diagnostic mode that lets you check
all sorts of stuff out. I'm sure you could hose things up if you mess
around with some of the settings, but it's fun to look at the 'Trip
Information', which shows fuel use, 'GPS Info', which shows how many
sat's you're tracking and your coords + elevation, and the 'yaw'
indicator, which is insanely sensitive.

3. Using the Navi as a massive yellow pages. I spend about $1.50 every
time i call information on my cell phone. 90% of the time, the phone
number i'm looking for is in the navi database (and it's still the
stock 2003 db)

4. Dial in a location, and when you're at the confirmation screen that
shows the name and address of your destination, press the 'show
routes' button. It will crunch away for a while, and then start
popping up the path that the different routing options would
take...(i.e. max freeway, direct, etc). Scroll through them and pick
the one you like best.

5. Any time you start your car, let it sit and idle until you press
the 'OK' button on the navi legal mumbo schmumbo... It makes sure the
navi is always ready when you need it, and gives the engine a good
15-20 seconds to lube up before you start putting it to work. Some
folks have the discipline to do this naturally, i don't.

6. Always eyeball the route from beginning to end if you have the
time. Sometimes small defects in the map database will make the
routing really funky...as the legal mumbo schmumbo says, 'use your own
good judgement'.

7. Looking for a new fishing hole? The maps show an amazing number of
bodies of water, many of which i had been driving past on a daily
basis and was not aware of (usually due to topography). Just pick the
general area you're interested in, zoom in to 1/2 mile scale or less
and start hunting.

8. My girls and i like to eat ice cream and watch planes take off and
land. Like the bodies of water, pretty much every airport that has a
paved runway is in the map... Dig one up (you can use the category
search for this, too) and head out.

9. There are probably endless iterations of this one. I had been
seeing a ton of ads for a new restaurant called 'Sonic', but had never
seen one in my area. On a particularly lazy trip home from a job site
(125mi away), i punched in menu->places->by name and looked up sonic.
Found one and checked it out. (Ended up waiting 45 minutes in line for
the drive through when i could have been in and out of the 'drive up'
in half that. Either way, it wasn't worth it. )

Just checked my "secret" menu. Lots of neat things but no calibration. Anyone know what the YAW Setting is for? This is my readout-
Sensor 2.509V
Offset 2.509V
CCW Factor -0.1%
CW Factor -0.7%

I think the yaw is what you might have to work with. It has something to do with the vertical axis in navigation.

The Yaw functionality is used when the vehicle has lost the GPS signal. It then uses the Yaw sensor to detect turns, acceleration and deceleration rates. That, in addition to the speed sensor keeps the Navi display reasonably close to where you actually are until the GPS signal is regained.

FYI - Did you know that even when you don't click OK and the screen goes blank, Navi is still actually working and monitoring your position? Try driving for a while with Navi "off" and then turn it on and quickly click OK through the Nag screen. You should find your position is already exactly calculated. Neat eh?

I've seen the jiggle once, and that was when I was stopped on a parallel off-ramp. Navi couldn't tell if I was on the ramp or still on the free-way and was jiggling rapidly until I started moving again.

That's because big brother is watching us:D

I'm thinking maybe I shold take another navi truck out for a test drive to see if THAT jiggles like mine and the '08 I tested do. I don't use the navi that much since I know most of my area fairly well. Perhaps if I use it each time I drive, it might get more accurate, and not jiggle. Grasping at straws here.
