thooks 01-01-2008, 05:58 PM Just thought I'd share some MPG numbers for the last 10 days. I've put about 1600 miles on my 2006 RTS traveling to Ohio, Alabama and back to the dreaded ATL.
Two tanks ran about 21.5 MPG, two about 21 MPG and the current one will go down due to city driving.
I don't drive slow, some of this was at 70-80 and most all know by now that you can't really use cruise control today due to the interstates being full of people and most of them doing 8 mph under the speed limit in the left lanes.
My truck currently has 11,500 or so miles on it.
Wingguy 01-01-2008, 07:33 PM What grade of gas were you using? Do you have a topper or a cover on the bed? This information will be helpful as we look at your numbers.
I just put my Ridgy into service this month, a month of vacation for me. I will be driving 38K per month. It will be interesting to see how the mileage works out. I will be bucking the wild Wyoming wind on 1100 of those miles each month.;)

You must own a gas station:D
25 Year Honda Owner 01-02-2008, 05:01 AM You must own a gas station:D
I would hope he owns his own oil well! That would be about $6K per month!
shovelhd 01-02-2008, 05:23 AM You must own a gas station:D
And a Honda dealership
Pizza Man 01-02-2008, 06:26 AM He must mean 3.8K/month.
38K/month, 30 day month comes to 1267 miles per day. At an average speed of 50 mph it would take over 25 hours driving per day. ;) :)

ericrwalker 01-02-2008, 07:49 AM Or maybe he will be driving at an average of 100 MPH!!!

Wingguy 01-02-2008, 08:00 AM OK, you caught me. It is 3800 miles per month. I was working on 4 hours sleep over the past 36 when I posted that one.
Yes, I do drive a bunch. No, I don't own an oil well, but wish that I did. However, I am thankful for "pay the pump." I figure it saves me a full week a year of my life from standing in lines to give them my credit card, go back out and pump the gas, then return for my credit card and receipt.
I get really irritated when the pump has not been serviced and the screen says, "Please see attendant for receipt." :( If I wanted to see the attendant, I would have gone to the cheapy station across the street that doesn't have the newer pumps:(:(. In fact, I refuse to buy gas at stations that don't offer pay the pump.
Glad I do NOT drive these miles in Oregon where state law requires that the attendant has to pump it for you. And, yes, I am old enough to have lived through the "service station" era when as you drove into the petroleum filling station you would drive over a hose that rang a bell, the attendant would come out of the building, fill your tank while also checking your air pressure in your tires and washing your windows.
You now can get your windows washed in Southern California at every corner, but they guy who is out there doing it wants you to pay him after he has scratched your fender with his belt buckle while smearing your windshield.

I used only 87 octane. No topper. No bed cover.
It should be noted that this truck was loaded to the gills with cargo and two people the whole time. Two large suitcases, packed, ~40-50 lbs each. One other travel bag, Christmas presents of all sorts, beverages, an 8' fiberglass stepladder, cooler, beer, wine, bicycle, etc. The A/C compressor was on some during the 21.5 trip due to it raining all day during that 550 mile trip.
VetteBlue 01-02-2008, 08:58 PM You're doing pretty good at 20-22mpg! I've been posting my MPG results online (listed here as My Homepage) and this time of year I am getting about 20% worse than that. Good driving to you!
KUDZU 01-02-2008, 09:23 PM Great Gas Mileage...............
Wingguy 01-06-2008, 07:26 PM First two tanks were in the mid 18's for me. Second two fill ups were 22.3 and 20.6. The second two fill ups followed mostly highway driving conditions.
The last tank I filled today was 19.1. This was about 95% highway driving at 70-80 MPH in high side winds (20-40 MPH winds) on dry surfaces, 5% city driving. All of this was Colorado front range driving with the exception of the 20.6 MPG tank which was up Interstate 70 into the Rockies and back.
I will be making a 1.5k mile trip next weekend into Wyoming and South Dakota winds, so we will see what kind of mileage she gets under those conditions.

OK Order 66, 25 year Honda Owner, Shovelhd and Ericrwalker - check my figures (as I know you will) and I will correct the mistakes I made with this post ;).
NKyRidge 01-06-2008, 07:33 PM well, at 980 miles on my 08, my last tank I only got 13 mpg. Mostly city driving - I hope it improves soon, I don't remember my 06 getting this poor mileage, and I tracked it pretty closely.
drove 50 miles today and the gauge is already a hair above 3/4 tank... ugg.
BruceRTL 01-07-2008, 11:11 AM My 08 had 940 miles on Friday when I filled her up and it calculated to about 15 mpg. I then drove it from Phoenix to Flagstaff to play in the snow on Saturday. After refilling in flag we only got around 15.5 mpg. That stretch of driving was only 140 miles but it was pure interstate. It did have several long uphill stretches that I cruised up at 70 plus. The last 20 miles were in very snowy conditions and traffic was running around 30 mph. I haven't filled it back up yet but since it was downhill (from 7,000' down to 1,500'), I'm hoping for big numbers. Now I have around 1,270 miles.
We went to Flagstaff because all of the comments on ROC about how the RL handles in snow. My wife thinks I'm crazy but while in flag, I found an empty snow covered parking lot without curbs and bumps (the ADOT office - perfect) and tried to put the RL into a slide. I could not get the tires to spin. Also, we saw numerious vehicles in the ditches - some had even rolled over - We couldn't believe it. I guess everyone is correct about the handling. While I grew up in Central Illinois where we had lots of snow, this was the first time I had driven in snow in 20 years - the RL handled it with flying colors.
thooks 01-07-2008, 11:50 AM It's a pretty decent climb up I-17 to Flagstaff.
I was there in November and had a POS Jeep Patriot to drive from PHX to Flagstaff. I think it holds almost 10 gallons of gas. I had to fill up when I got to Flagstaff after about 190 miles.
I don't know what Chrysler is building, but it sure isn't something I want. Their CVT is pure junk. I had a Dodge Caliber last Wednesday and it appeared to be the same thing as the Patriot. Constant surging of the transmission, no power, poor handling, etc. What a piece of crap.
CUinaRidge 01-07-2008, 06:13 PM I will be making a 1.5k mile trip next weekend into Wyoming and South Dakota winds, so we will see what kind of mileage she gets under those conditions.
Traveling east back out of South Dakota to Wisconsin I got 23mpg, the nice breeze sure helped!!
:)

Better than we got. We ran from Palm Springs to San Francisco, a 4 day trip of about 1100 miles what with driving around once we go tup there in city driving. I figured in my mileage last night and it turns out highway saw 17.2 and city saw 10.4 Vehicle still under 5000 miles but IMO doesn't look all that hopeful to me that it's going to miraculously jump up to 15mpg city at 5000 miles like the local dealer suggests it will. Im so tired of this 10.2, 11.8, 10.7 type of city mileage I don't even want to drive the truck around town anymore. The truck uses so much more fuel than our 16 year old bmw which weighs a lot and has a 16 year old technology, 155k miles on it and it still gets far better mileage around town than this truck. Oh well, I've vented about it, I feel better.
Funny (not) that I got my best mileage so far when I brought the truck home from the dealer (125 mile drive home) with 28 miles on the truck when I picked it up and got 22.8 mpg, it's been all downhill since then I figure.
bliss53 01-09-2008, 03:13 PM For what it is worth...I looked at my log and I have averaged 2,885 per month since I purchased. The highest gas mileage I have recorded is 21.83 my average mpg over 97,436 miles is 18.96 mpg.
McRidgeline 01-09-2008, 03:40 PM If my driving is mostly interstate and low traffic where I can use the cruise, I've been getting a bit over 20mpg on average. And that's in the S. Ohio / N. KY area. I've gotten close to 22 mpg near the coast where it's flatter.
Usualy day-to-day mixed driving I'm getting 17-17.5mpg. 'Mixed' being approx. 30-50 mi. / day 75% of that be multi-lane traffic but surging/changing speeds that make using the cruise a pain.
I usually use Shell, 87 octane and no bed cover. '07 RL with approx. 15K miles (that's 15,000) per earlier discussions. :D
Wingguy 03-31-2008, 05:14 PM Three months of driving, 10K total, and averaging 19-21 mpg. I have done an oil change and put synthetic in. Let's see what the next 10K brings.
By the way, I don't dawdle on these trips. When I am on interstates, I am traveling 75-80 mph when possible. In the Rockies, I have to slow down a little.
Next trip this coming weekend will be from Denver to Grand Junction (that is over Loveland pass at 11990' and Vail pass at 10666'), through Grand Junction, south to Montrose, then back over the Rockies over Monarch pass (11312'), and several other shorter passes (8000-9000'). I am loving the room and ride of the Ridgy.
mhods 04-05-2008, 08:56 PM Now that more and more gas stations can sell 10% ethanol blended fuel and don't have to tell the customers, I believe you will see a lot of fluctuation in mpg between fill ups
zroger73 04-05-2008, 09:51 PM I get really irritated when the pump has not been serviced and the screen says, "Please see attendant for receipt." :( If I wanted to see the attendant, I would have gone to the cheapy station across the street that doesn't have the newer pumps
Oh...my...gosh! Me too! ExxonMobil is the only brand of fuel I use (thanks to XOM stock) and it seems like more often than not I have to "please see cashier" to get my receipt. You never know whether it's going to work or not until you're fueled up and it tries to print the receipt. Complaints to ExxonMobil, store managers, and employees have had no result. Here are the top 5 responses I get when I complain at store level:
1. "I'm sorry" followed by a blank stare.
2. "Oh, I know! Those things are pieces of junk, but they won't replace them!" (Who are "they"?)
3. "I've tried to tell my employees that the thermal paper has to go in there a certain way, but they still put it in upside down causing it to print a blank receipt."
4. "My computer shows that the printer is working properly - if it wasn't, there would be a red X over the pump, see?" (Well, Bessie, it ain't workin'!)
5. "They keep breaking because people pull on the receipts before it is finished printing." (I know this is bull, because the receipt printers at my local stations print the receipt internally before spitting it out. The printer mechanism was designed with the fact that most humans feel if they pull on a piece of paper coming out of a printer it will print faster. I observe this at the fax/printer/copier across from my office all day long.)

I was going to do my doctoral thesis on who "they" are, looking for an answer to question #2. My adviser told me that he did not think "they" would approve that thesis. "Oh, that is who they are!"
With 13600 on my Ridgy I got 21 MPG going from Denver to Grand Junction over Loveland Pass and Vail pass this past weekend, and 23 MPG coming back. I am loving it more on each trip. :D

Grrrrr, with each gallon of fuel I put in my Ridgline, the more I am hating it.
Seriously, I put in 20.00 which is about 5 gallons. I make a trip to the dog park, (round trip about 12 miles) and a trip to the theater (round trip about 20 miles) and the empty light comes on again indicating the gas guzzling beast would like another drink. Roughly 10.4 mpg around town, which even the dealer acknowledges as being below what Honda considers normal for the vehicle (about 12.5 is what the manufacturer actually considers to be normal according to our local dealer) but theres nothing to be found wrong with it so what are they to replace to fix the low mileage. The advisor likes to joke and say, maybe we need to replace the driver. Sure I laugh outside, but inside Im ready to ring anybodies neck that gets within arms reach.
I was really starting to dread this Ridgline then I had a friend over that purchased an Element recently. He said that he gets good mileage but that it's totally gutless, and has to really put his foot into it to get it to go , and when he does that it guzzles gas like nobodys business. Im still uncertain if that was supposed to console me or not. But Im still feeling in a right nasty mood whenever I have to visit the filling station and give it more to guzzle.
With my own experiences, everytime that a Honda commercial comes on the television advertising how great honda's are at low emmissions, I scream back at the television, "How can you be so great at low emmissions if I have to use twice the fuel to get to the same place, thus putting out twice the amount of "low" pollutions in my honda". Yeah it's starting to get under my skin already.
MikeT 05-06-2008, 07:43 PM DR, did you skip your meds today ;)
I agree with what you are saying regarding the amount of emissions AND milage!
I have been lucky in the milage department. I am averaging between 15mpg to 16mpg of stop light to stop light city driving and 18mpg and 19mpg for commuting to and from work (~110 miles of morning / afternoon rush hour traffic) and between 20mpg to 22mpg on the open road with the AC set to auto. But due to the $120+ a week in fuel, I may need a change of daily driver :(

YeS, YEs, I DiD SkIP mY mEDs todAY. Does it really show?
I have dreams of a vespa with a sidecar for my dogs in my head so that at least I can take them affordably to the dog park, and run to the grocery store for myself. When I went to the theater the other night and returned home, I didn't think about the $4.00 for the theater tickets (this is a cheapo theater *but clean*) but rather that it costs me almost $10.00 just to get there and back (20 miles).
I've seen some good mileage don't get me wrong, on our trip to San Fran, we did manage to get about 19 or so mpg, and when I first got the truck and it only had 26 miles on it, I did manage one trip to the LA office (125 miles each way) with 21mpg, but since then it's been all down hill, with city mileage now bottoming (thankfully not going any lower) at 10.4 and highway somewhere around 17.
If I had to drive this to the office in LA every week like I use to, I'd definately not be able to afford it in gas. The BMW (old 1991) still got better mileage with 155k on the odometer than this one does with less than 6,000 miles on the clock. However, the BMW finally went into the shop for some much needed repairs and the repair bill will be around $2800.00 so that buys a lot of gas. So we're going to fix the drivers door so that we can use it, and fix the rear brakes so that we can stop, then the rest of the repairs will have to wait for another time. Still, don't know that it makes me feel any better about the mileage that I get in a 6 month old truck.
Oh well, nothing IM going to do about it except once in a while let out my rage through a minor rant and move on, until I have to fill it up again then I'll grumble some more at the clerk and move on again like the rest of the sheep in the world, just following along day after day. Grummmble grummbble.
ToyTruck 05-06-2008, 08:21 PM DR--Somebody's siphoning your fuel  10.4??
DesertRidgeline 05-06-2008, 08:26 PM DR--Somebody's siphoning your fuel  10.4??
You have no idea how much I wish that were true! The thought that it might actually get better one day because the thief stopped sucking my gas is a pleasurable thought, however... With the gas door lock thingy and the keys in my safe, it's unfortunately rather sad that nobody's siphoning off my fuel at this time. One can always dream though, one can always dream. :D
MikeT 05-06-2008, 08:42 PM YeS, YEs, I DiD SkIP mY mEDs todAY...
LMAOROTF :D :D :D :D
Seems like the gas mileage is all over the chart! My new 08 has 1300 miles on it. The worst I got was 13.5 off the lot, and yesterday I put 300 miles on 18 gallons (holds 22 if I remember) that worked out to 16.6 combined city/hiway.The Tacoma I traded in averaged 17 in combined and 20 hiway, so the Ridge is on par with the Taco, and the ridge is a lot more truck. So if that holds I should get at least 350+ on a tank (365 to be precise).
Not bad really.
thooks 05-20-2008, 02:32 PM Slow down to get more mileage?? LMAO! Blasphemy!
Just thought I'd check in. I've got 17,500 miles on my 2006 RTS now. I'm still getting 20-22 mpg. I did 340 miles Mother's Day weekend, from Marietta to Loganville, GA, to Montgomery, AL. Started with a full tank in Marietta and filled up outside of Lagrange, GA coming back to ATL. 340 miles @20.01 gallons, yes, I topped it off. I like to make darn sure what my numbers are, no guessing.
This was not a pure interstate trip, some of it was sitting in traffic during paving, road construction, etc. Some of the return trip had a queen-size matress and box springs in the back winched down. I don't floor it, but I don't putt along in the right (or left) lane. 70-80 MPH getting down to Montgomery and 60-75 MPH coming back with the mattress.
I am getting +15 in strictly stop-and-go idiot Atlanta traffic. About 17 mpg in 'mxed' driving.
I have to say I am still loving this thing. It's ugly, but it is a very functional vehicle.
