The '07 Silverado, then the Saturn Aura, now the '08 Malibu.

They are trying REAL hard not to go down the tubes. I like the Tahoe and the Silverado, but do not like thier approach to dealing with repair issues or how they treat the customer.

Can't fault them for trying, though. Maybe in the process they'll cleanup the rest of their act.

GM seems to be making some improvement. Ford is not doing well at all, the F-150 is the only thing that seems to be moving. Chrysler just plain sucks!!
As I get older and the price of fuel keeps going up, I may have to consider buying from a local dealer in a few years. OMG, no local Honda dealers!!!

I considered a GM Sierra before purchasing the RL. It was nice but I like the elegant set up of the RL more than the work like set up of the Sierra.
maybe so, but how many Accord/Camry buyers will say, yeah, I'll take the Malibu instead. I still think the GM/Ford rental car company purchases are keeping them alive.

Hard to say. What's the price differential? If it's significant, it may get a second look from those who usually buy used Accord/Camrys.

Add to that the local/state/federal government purchases year over year.

Don't forget the police cars!! With all the fallout monies the police have gotten in the name of national security is unreal. In my area all the county and local police are assigned their own personal cars.

About $2K MSRP difference between a V6 Malibu LTZ and Accord V6 (w/o navigation which is not available on the Malibu). I haven't purchased an American brand in 28 years but the Malibu has certainly attracted my attention. Of course, now I'm hearing that GM needs to beef up production to keep up with demand. What will that do to the expected quality of this vehicle? While I purchased a first year (heck, first month) vehicle with my Ridgeline nearly 3 years ago, I doubt if I'm brave enough to risk purchasing a first year American product, especially if they are rushing to increase production capacity.

Honda is not noted for treating customers any better than other brands. Consumer Reports has consistently shown that Honda, Toyotas are very good cars, their customers like them, but not the dealers.

The facts are that the F150 is down 12% for the year. The Edge is selling well as are the Fusion-based cars. The big SUVs are doing badly (as they are for every brand).

How right you are! My adult daughter with a first years teacher's salary just purchased an Enterprise 2007 Malibu LE with 18k on it 12k. I rode in it this weekend and it seemed like new and wasn't bad. Has the normal GM doo dads, like steering wheel controls and aux jack. We'll see how it holds up but for her it was the biggest bang for the buck. She lives 50 miles from even a small town and needs dependable transportation for even basic shopping.

I have owned Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, VW, Acura, and Honda vehicles in the past. None of the domestic make dealers would come close to how Honda has stepped up and taken care of me. The dealers all want to make money and that is thier primary motivation. The absolute best customer service was delivered by Acura followed by Honda. The worst customer service from both the manufacturer and dealer was by Ford. I have come up with my own definition of Ford:
Forgotten On or Right after Delivery!
