Plan to bring a few 6-packs of my favorite Vermont brew,Woodchuck Draft Cider (http://www.woodchuck.com/Products/tabid/54/Default.aspx) to Marysville for RidgeRun 2008. Please vote here on which flavor(s) you would prefer (they also have a Pear Cider and a Raspberry-flavored version of their classic Amber but I've tried both and found them lacking):
Woodchuck Amber Draft Cider - Amber was the first style of cider produced under the Woodchuck label. It is made from a blend of apples and fermented with champagne yeast to produce a great tasting and refreshing product.
"Golden, medium light body, mild bitterness, medium sweetness, reminiscent of apple cider, fresh herbs. Crisp and pleasant in character with a concentrated apple finish." Beverage Tasting Institute
"Good balance of sweetness, fragrant fruity aroma and pleasant effervescence. A real cider but not that complex." Denning, Barley Corn Magazine
Woodchuck Dark & Dry 802 Draft Cider - Like our Amber Cider, Dark & Dry 802 is made with a blend of apples and champagne yeast but caramelized sugar is added just before filtering to impart a deep bronze tone. White sugar is used in the Amber Cider.
"Tawny brown, has a medium light body, mild bitterness, mild sweetness reminiscent of apple, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Well defined and quite tart on the palate with a mouthwatering refreshing character.“ Beverage Tasting Institute
"A deep bronze, this was the darkest specimen yet. 'Rich sweet flavor, with some sharp notes,' commented Goldman. 'The most complex yet no lapses from nose to finish,' maintained Raunswinder. Several of the tasters detected non-apple flavors such as cherry or cinnamon. Woodchuck Dark & Dry was named best of show at the Albany International Beer Festival last year. It also gleaned the highest score from our panel." Barley Corn Magazine
Woodchuck Granny Smith Draft Cider - This is one of our most popular styles of cider, introduced in March, 1997. It is made using 100% Granny Smith apples. This cider has a mouth-watering flavor that is tangy and tart, with just a touch of sweetness. Do people like it? You bet they do.

My wife loves cider but prefers her native brand Woodchuck from England. I think it is semi-sweet as cider goes. Have you ever tried it?

How much wood, would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood!
Sorry, guys! I couldn't resist! (and now that I've embarrassed by husband, I'll leave!)

Dry English cider like Strongbow if I have to....otherwise...Porters and Stouts for me...
For those who don't know these.... they were the favorite beverages from last years meet. That says a lot as there were plenty of choices.
I didn't see all Granny ... wait, huh? :D ... anyway. Granny & Amber is my vote.
Rob, can I put in a personal order for myself? :)

I'm sure this isn't the first time you've been embarrassed by your husband!
(Ask Elaine, after 20 years of marriage, she'll tell ya stories!)

Yup, Woodpecker was the original cider that got me liking the category to begin with and, as a matter of fact, I have a Woodpecker tap handle sitting here in my office. It's very, very good but I personally prefer the Woodchuck Granny Smith.

probably true, something like the Bloody Mulligan's (beer, 'mater juice & Tabasco) we used to drink when I was growing up in Kansas - since I like both Woodchuck and Newcastle I'll have to give it a try

Keith & Chris,
I'll have to give this personal order thing some thought - it could get out of control and the RL does have a load limit! :D

Reminds me of what we called "Red Beer", about 1/3 tomato juice or V-8 juice and 2/3 beer. Great drink!!

Change the V-8 juice to Clamato, add some lime juice and tabasco to taste....now you're talking!:D

Gosh - where's the "I've never tried it so plan on bringing a full trunk for all of us to test out" choice?

Hey Moosepond! EOCer chiming in. Love Woodchuck cider!! It's all I drink. Lately, I have been all about the 802. Since you're in VT are you interested in a caravan to Nationals? I'm in the Albany, NY area. The EOC already has a caravan of about 20 from 2 different Northeast locations that will be heading out. I would love to add the Ridge's in:cool:

If I see an E-van while on my way out there, I'll be sure to wave

Actually, I'll be leaving from my "primary" home in Westchester County, NY, (about 10 miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge, just off Route 9) but a caravan sounds like an excellent idea! Let's stay in touch and, hopefully, we'll get some others to join in for our trek to Marysville.

Hey guys! The caravans are starting up now. Looks like one might be leaving from Albany, NY and the other from NJ. I think the idea is to leave early Thursday for both. We will keep in touch for sure!
