New SP-570 UZ Olympus camera coming out soon. Looks pretty impressive. With the 20x optical zoom, you could get REALLY close up photos. And the 15 photo/second burst mode would catch the perfect sports photo.

Looks like an awesome camera! I've been looking to upgrade my Canon powershot s1... the press release says it'll be released in March, hopefully that's in the US.

That 15fps burst mode would be awesome in 10 megapixel mode, but it's only in 1.2 megapixel mode per the review. Looks like a marketing ploy moreso than an actual feature you would use very often. Otherwise, nice specs.

I suppose it would be great to have more megapixels associated with the sequential pics, but the pics (15-20 in sequence) delivered by the 1.2 megs in my SP550 UZ are a far cry from the blurry images captured by the 1.3 in my Krzr K1m phone.
I don't think it's "a ploy", necessarily. The 15fps can really be handy, giving you more "framing" and "context" to choose from when processing action photos. And the "cool factor" is nice, too. Hearing a camera click away by simply holding the release button is a sound I've always found appealing. lol.
Olylmpus sure doesn't wait long to upgrade their cameras! Seems like every 6-7 months!
My 550UZ is 7.1megapixels, the 560UZ is 8mp (IIRC), and now the 570UZ is 10mp! How high does it need to go?
These cameras aren't for the casual, once-in-a-while photographer, I've found out, however. I used to use my 35mm daily, so I had no problem using/choosing/remembering the settings on that camera for a particular shot in any given setting. Sporadic use of my 55UZ has necessitated visiting it's manual or the "GUIDE" mode on the camera often enough, that I think the camera may have been overkill for my needs.
When better weather comes, and I find myself outdoors alot more, I'll probably learn to navigate the camera's settings more, and, using it's features more often, will learn to appreciate what it's truly capable of providing.
On my 550UZ, there's a way to assign functions to a "custom button", and four "My Modes" that can be set to quickly change to a favorite saved setting, but I've yet to set any of them. I don't know if the 570UZ retained this feature, but I'd think it would've.
I've had some problems (but not all the time) with the autofocus at long digital telephoto shots. This, I've seen reported, was fixed in the 560UZ, and thus shouldn't be a problem in the 570UZ.
I thought the 18X optical zoom was amazing! 20X ! wow.
It's equally amazing how much the "older" models come down in price, when newer models are introduced!
I just hope the introduction of yet another Olympus that uses the xD memory cards helps to insure the availability of this kind of card - There were reports that the Olympus xD "typeH" cards (Hi-speed) were getting a bit "scarce".
These OEM cards are needed to access longer video times, and an Olympus card is also needed to use the "panoramic" features of the camera.

I've been a professional photographer since 1962! I've been through film; b/w, color reversal, color negative, etc. I've spent 30+ years with Kodak and feel that digital imaging is where we are today.
I own five Kodak digital cameras as well as a Canon Rebel SLR in both digital and film formats with additional lenses.
However, my FAVORITE camera for a 65 year old retired guy is my Olympus 790 SW. It's easy to use, fits in my pocket and delivers an exceptional image.

Interesting point...I despise the 1.3 pics I get from my cellphone as well. I guess there is a lot to be said about how the software for each product actually "uses" the info it gets, even at lower resolution settings. Any way you could post one of each in a side-by-side post? Not looking for anything wild...a picture of the kitchen table would be sufficient. I'm merely curious. :)

I don't have an image host (never needed one before) but to post the pics in their "original form", I used a free image hosting site. I hope it works!
Weird how the colors differ in the pics, I might have unintentionally used a setting on the Olympus that altered the hues... ?
I kept the resolution as similar as possible. The photos are not processed.
As you'll be able to discern from the EXIF data, the Olympus pic is slightly lower (1.23Mp) than the phone pic (1.31Mp), but the "quality" of the pic (even though the color is "off" a bit) seems evident.
I was curious, as well... sorry it took so long to get to this... I'm using cards with a cardreader, so shuffling them, finding a host, etc... was a pain... :(
I should make clear that the camera pic is from my SP550UZ, not the SP570UZ, although there shouldn't be much difference... for the purposes of this post, anyways.
