I am ready to order a G2 myself and looking for the best price.

The manufacture lists them at $795. minus $50 plus free shipping

Can you do better than that ?

Cash (credit card) in hand and anxious.

Ridgebak or Bak Flip and why?

The one that would be better depends on what you want- the RidgeBak is a 1pc hinged cover and the BakFlip is a folding cover. The BakFlip would be a better choice if you want to be able to use your entire bed without removing the cover, but you lose the visibilty out your rear window. either one can be removed in less than 5 minutes.

Ok...

I cannot decide which one I want. The Ridgebak or the BakFlip G2.

Anyone found out where to run the drain hoses on the Bakflip?

I am guessing both allow the trunk to be fully opened.

Any problems driving at highway speeds with the Bakflip blocking the rear window?

Thanks for the answers in advance.

Just installed my bakflip and love it. No tubes installed and the last two days you know we had major downpours yesterday and today here in Florida and no water in the bed.

Both covers do restrict trunk opening slightly but not bad maybe 6 inches at best.

I just want the convienence of the bakflip for hauling tall items on occasion.

Thanks for the answers in advance.

The decision of which cover to get is just a matter personal preference.

I chose the Bakflip G2 for the convenience of being able to use the entire bed if needed. I did install the drain hoses, and instead of cutting them, I ran them thru the lower hold downs, under my bed mat, let them lay over the opening around the bed bolts after removing the plugs in the bed. I let the excess length of the hoses curve up tightly against the bedsides and out of the way.

I'm fairly certain both the Ridgebak and Bakflip use the same side rails, so both would have the drain hoses and both do restrict the trunk opening.

I haven't driven at highway speeds with the Bakflip fully opened and blocking the window, but I wouldn't hesitate doing it if I needed to.

Got mine on Friday, installed it with my buddy in less than one hour. I love it. I have the hoses run through the lower hooks but haven't put them under my bed mat (yet). I prefer the Bakflip - easy to get into, easy to drive with. I haven't driven it in the "up" position yet.

Decided to go with the BakFlip G2. I don't want to be stranded with the Ridgebak when needing to carry large objects and I don't know about the struts life expectancy.

Ridgestalker, Did I commit to buying both. It still shows the ability to vote on the Bakflip group buy above. If I did it was a mistake as I am new to these crazy forum setups.

UTVNut, its personal preference. The G2 drives great, and is easy to install and use. Especially use. I have no knowledge of the Ridgebak, however I wanted a segmented cover that gave me options. (having options is important to me, according to my therapist ;) ). Go with whatever you think best for your personal situation, I know the G2 is good, and I assume the Ridgebak is also.

What kind of electric hook up will follow? Is it better just to do a dynolock? Thanks
utvnut, the Dynolock is a fine product, but if I recall correctly there is no manual overide should it fail. The Pop & Lock that is presently being offered via a Group Buy is strictly a manual locking system. There is an electrical add-on to the P & L that will work in harmony with the manual lock. This gives the option to unlock the tailgate manually should there be an electrical failure. Although P & L is looking into an alternate wiring location, I think the only place to wire it is the same as the Dynolock. Behind the bed panels, down toward the frame then up behind the door pillar to tap into the RL wire harness located there.

Someone will correct me if my assumptions concerning the Dynolock are inaccurate.

RRIDER
07-15-2008, 12:55 PM
For me, the manual lock will work out better. I'll only want to lock the tailgate if I have something in the bed. The electric locks will lock every time you lock the doors.

I'd like to echo what nils said. I spoke to Josh about some other products they carry and he seemed very knowledgeable. :)

utvnut- For me the G2 was a no-brainer. I routinely haul stuff taller than the sides of the Ridge. I didn't want to be restricted to height or have to take the thing off every time I put a larger item in the box. :(

Thanks for the good answers guys. I think the G2 is going to be the most versatile I was concerned about the quality (or lack of) posts that mentioned them coming apart. Probably worth the risk at this point for the options of use vs. the one piece type. I'm going to sleep on it one more time and commit tomorrow.

The earlier posts about the Bakflip falling apart and leaking a lot were the first generation Bakflip. Bak industries redesigned the cover and is now called the G2.

I have had the Bakflip G2 on my RL for over 2 months. I had a very minor water leak at the tailgate that $2.00 worth of weatherstripping solved.

Like I said before, which cover to get comes down to your personal preference, and which one suits your needs best. I know exactly what you are going through trying to decide which one to get..I went full round circles several times checking out every cover available for the Ridgeline, and kept coming back to the Bakflip.

I can try to get a pic later. I just ran a strip of weather stripping on the underside of the cover so that it would abut the inside of the tailgate.

The minor leak was a few drops of water on the right side, at the tailgate. It only seemed to get in when washing the truck and spraying with high pressure
After a pretty hard rain, and the truck still wet, I opened the tail gate (swing opened), and saw a few drops drip off of the edge of the tonneau cover onto the back right edge of the bed. IMHO this cover is as water tight as any can be.

There's no info to send, you have to call Josh at 877-216-5446. He's extremely good to talk with.

On another note, I left the top tie-downs in when I installed the Bakflip, as having them is more important to me than any water leaking in. The Bakflip slid nicely under the tie-downs, though I don't have a perfect seal under them. Of course I also live in California, the land of drought and fires! So I'm not too worried about rain.

And one other note, it looks, after 2 tanks of gas, that I've improved my gas mileage about 1 mpg. Not too bad!

Finally got off the fence yesterday. After 3 plus years and indecision ordered the G2 from Josh. Now I gotta wait the week or two for it to get here. Almost went with the ridgebak but decided the foldable style with d-rings was more usable for me.

Now I'm reading about the locks to decide if I care about locking the bed. Next upgrade after these will be to do an indash nav/radio since I'm tired of the 4" Garmin.

Received the Bakflip G2 on Friday 25 July 2008 and the Weathertech hood deflector. Installed both yesterday. Will take some pics soon.
I noticed today that the trunk hits the locking bars located under each side rail and not the rails themselfs. I also don't like the space over the center bolts of the rails.
Will hopefully take pics this evening unless it storms.........Florida......

I NEED TO POINT OUT!!
that the cover was NOT fully forward and the two bolt on the center of each side where showing. I went to lowes and purchased more weather seal that I used on both rails and the rear piece underneath just before the rubber seal facing down above the tailgate. I have not parked the truck in a drenching rain since. So the test has not been completed yet. I don't beleive it will be completely waterproof especially at the tailgate.

Well I have been driving it for a few weeks now. Did not Park it out in TS Fay. But we have had a few storms since. I am still getting a few drops of water in at the front and in two places on the sides. Of course the back leaks as the tailgate is there. It will never be completely waterproof like the trunk. But its not bad.

Great install. Good product. Like Stanholio, I can't see this being completely watertight. My OEM on my Avalanche wasn't either though. Leaked all over the place.

The two areas I see on the G2 that it will likely leak are at the center bolt holes (they don't get completely covered) and the tailgate corners.

Does what I bought it to do. Keeps whats inside out of sight and makes for a more finished look to the Ridgeline.

Just ordered the Pop & Lock to complete this portion of upgrades to my 2009.
