View Full Version : "Super Bumper"
"Big Brown" was by yesterday and dropped off my "superdeeduper spring loaded bumper".
Seems like a good product should help with the "right kind of rear end hit". ( after my parking lot issues) Also, I can see where it would take away some of the "jerking / bumping" while towing.
'Maybe not proper to "plug" vendors here but this guy is good to deal with and appears to have a good product. (FYI)
I hope to get time to get it on tonite ?

With the mention of towing, I am wondering if it some type of in-between spring loaded device for the hitch...

$200???????

Looks like it just slides into the pre-existing receiver. If that's the case, $200 does seem like a lot for what is essentially a trailer ball, not a full hitch assembly.
On the other hand, I recently started a thread on how to make my truck more dangerous to other cars, e.g. in a parking lot. $200 might not be a lot if this thing really protects your car from people who are parking behind you and pull up until they hit you!
Wouldn't help with those who pull out from behind you and scrape your rear quarter panel (which has also happened to me).
I'm hoping that the original poster, VTX, will post some pics and reviews once he has it installed.
Here I am...
That's the one ! ( re: site listing)
I got it on last nite , I still have the same opinion. ( good product)
It's very well made and may not be the "end all" on damages but it sure will help.
Two things intrigued me....
Prevention of the "lunk head" parallel parking that uses the pull forward 'till you hit method
The other one is the small to medium hit in the rear by whatever means. A "solid" shot to the uni body frame can't be a good thing ?
As far as the cost, I got the black 24" mod, and it comes with a ball of your choice and a stainless locking pin for 179.00 inc. ship. ( read : unpainted bumper cover for 300.00 + dollars)
It does just slide into the 2" receiver and I have no association with the mfg. at all. :)

When you call it "unpainted", do you have any plans to paint it? Would you recommend the same size you bought to others?
Looking at the videos on their website, it looks like some have a spring that provides the protection, and others appear to have rubber donuts that compress. Are the rubber "donuts" just covering the spring or are there two types of product they sell?
I'm considering getting one mostly to protect the rear end from people who park poorly. I might add some sharp metal spikes coming off of it too<g>.
All in all are you happy with the purchase and would you offer any advice re: color, size, etc?

Sorry for the confusion... when I said "unpainted" I mean't the cost of stock RL bumper cover replacement. So, until you get a new cover (from damage) it kinda makes the 179.00 look a little "pale" .
The Super Bumper comes in black ( painted) or chrome. I got the black one.
The depiction on their site with springs vs. rubber donuts is, the springs are "older models". They all are supposed to use rubber now. Mine has rubber.
They also include rubber inside the square portion of the "hitch tube" that the hitch pin rests on , giving additional absorbtion.
Yes, I would get another one but no one has hit it yet ?

Would be nice if you could get it w/o the ball mount.

I don't know about anyone else, but ever since someone hit and run me at a K Mart I've become paranoid. I already park so far away from where I"m going that I get all my cardio exercise just from walking to the store.
I'm interested in anything that'll keep some idiot with no sense of responsibility from damaging my car that I worked hard to buy an am fond of.
If there's enough interest maybe we could get a group discount. Either way, I think I'm gonna get one.

I, too have one of these SuperBumpers. The ball mount doesn't have to be installed. It just drops into an opening at the top of the SuperBumper and the locking pin secures it at the bottom of the SuperBumper. You can leave the ball mount in or take it out easily. I leave mine out when I'm not towing and use the Honda rubber "H" from the factory hitch to fill in the hole.

Sounds pretty cool - can you post some pics? how low does it come down from the hitch? Thanks!

Sorry, I don't have any pics now, but will try to take some soon.
The horzontal centerline of the SuperBumper is exactly even with the horzontal centerline of the 2" hitch opening - it come straight out. My two reasons for purchasing were for protection and to raise the height of my hitch ball. I have been rear ended several times (three different vehicles) and always had my hitch ball in place. Each time they were not high speed, less than 5 mph, and I didn't receive any damage, however, the "perp" had a hole punched in his/her bumper each time. I just thought since the SuperBumper absorbs some shock, it might be a better option.
My 6' wide x 10' long enclosed Wells Cargo trailer when empty was sagging at the hitch ball - I needed more height and this added about 1 1/2" to 1 3/4", which made everything level. I can take exact measurements if anyone likes.

I am also considering getting one for the protection.
Anyone looking into a Group Buy for cheaper pricing ?
UPDATE -
For those interested, I've been speaking to "Jeff" from this company several times ( via email) and I did mention some 'member interest' here.
He said for those interested ; give him a call, let him know where you saw it and then you could talk price ?
Please Understand - I have no affiliation what so ever with him or his Co. I'm just passing on info.... to help someone out .
He seem like a good guy with a good product.

Little towing nuggets here.
It appears that this device would impede hitch "dropping". In other words the ball height cannot be raised or lowered to match many trailers properly. This is an important stability / clearance issue when towing.
Secondly, extending the hitch ball point out farther from the rear of the vehicle causes greater force to be placed on the rear of the vehicle, effectively increasing the tongue weight.
These things will not adversely effect most RL owners, but they are issues for those who tow significantly to consider.
