I just wanted to share a few photos from today as my buddy brought his new ride over to the ranch to show us. It’s a 1940 Chevy over Corvette running gear. As usual the pictures don’t come close to bringing the wow factor to the screen as seeing and hearing this car up close and in person.

Under the car looks just as shiny as the outside with a polished aluminum fuel tank and chrome suspension components. The frame is painted and shines like the mirror black body. I only took a single shot of the interior. It’s covered in light calf skin and is all modern Corvette as is the matching trunk.

Exterior looks great, but the gauge cluster is TOO modern. I wonder if he knows they make conversion kits from a digital signal to be outputted to an analog gauge?

I dunno, I prefer my Classic cars to have a general classic feel to the interior with the modern touches blended seamlessly. I'm just picky that way .

That is SWEET. I agree it would look better with retro gauges, but it is still very SWEET.

Just like the old 1958 Corvettes posted from this years SEMA show, one of the current street machine trends is called “Resto-Mods” these are cars and trucks that appear to be older generation restorations on the outside but use today’s running gear and technologies under their skin. Where the original vehicles were not that enjoyable to actually drive, they typically didn’t stop or turn well and did not have the dependability of today’s rides. However if the car happens to be a rare collectible like the Yenko Camaro or Hemi Cuda with racing history, it would be better left alone. Because the original would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars on the auction block and would have to be kept original with all its factory-correct parts. I’m old but I ain’t old enough to know if the trunks were actually that big back in the day. Resto-Mods are built to take us back to a simpler and somewhat happier time without all the headaches.

It likely wasn't but converted to be a trunk. That space might've been a rumble seat at one time, but I don't believe it was with that body style.

Trunks were that big and bigger! This is a Businessman's Coupe. They were sold mainly to the travelling saleman or to other professionals that needed to carry large amounts of equipment or sample cases with them.

Check out a few other big trunks:

I spent way too much time at antique car shows as a kid, and nowhere near enough time at them now :-/

After seeing Perry’s link to a more original 40’ Chevy, I agree with “BigFoote” a more “retro gauge setup” would have been a better fit.

Thanks for the awesome links Perry! You have got to come out west one time to experience the Antique Nationals, the LA Roadster Show, the Grand National Roadster Show and of course SEMA. I lug my 87 year old dad out to all three shows every year. I know you’d really enjoy it.

Chuck, we have gotta include a Ridge in the frame somehow but I guess I could have placed my truck into the reflections for a more subtle appearance huh.

I just found this link, and really enjoyed looking at the pictures. Thanks 5S Dude for posting the pics, and thanks to everyone else for the links to all the great looking street rods. I've loved street rods/hot rods since I was little kid, and one is in my future some day. I was actually looking at street rods when I finally decided to get a Ridgeline. I just wanted something very practical for right now. But every time I see pictures like the ones 5S Dude posted, I'm off dreaming again.
