poemteegra 02-04-2008, 10:41 AM Hello All.
I was wondering if anyone has dealt / dealing with Pacific Honda in Kearny Mesa (San Diego)?
I was going to bring my 07 Ridge in for it's first maintenance (Code A) tomorrow. Just clarifying, this is an oil change & lube? I was wondering because I asked the receptionist / whoever picked up the phone if they could balance my tires too - because they have felt like they needed a balance ever since I first picked up the Ridge. She said they usually do that with the B code, around 7500 miles.
FYI - My Ridge has about 5600 miles on it.
Thanks again.
- Peter
csimo 02-04-2008, 06:32 PM You need to explain to them you want the tires balanced under warranty. The receptionist was talking about maintenance... not warranty.
Beware... Honda has a new, long procedure for the dealer to follow before a warranty tire balance or front end alignment. It's a pain!
El Padre 02-04-2008, 06:45 PM I have dealt with them in the past, though not in the last 4 or 5 years and it was for an Odyssey service issue. They were reasonable then, no complaints.
That said, I'd recommend either Hoehn in Carlsbad or Honda of Mission Valley. I haven't personally dealt with HMV but I've seen posts here on the ROC from an apparently very nice lady who's a manager there (shortykrn). With that, how can you go wrong?
Hoehn is where I bought my RL and I can say they are outstanding about 95% of the time.
poemteegra 02-06-2008, 09:32 AM So I picked up my Ridge yesterday after work:
- Overall the service was OK. Said they would call me by noon (to tell me if I could pick up my Ridge at lunch), but no call. I called and left a message with my service rep who called me back.
- I asked if they could balance the tires under warranty; and after a conversation with the service rep, she agreed to take a look at it. And if no balance was needed, I would be on my way.
- Around 2-3 in the afternoon, my service rep called me. She stated that no balance was needed, and they had driven it around to get a feel for it.
- When I picked up my Ridge, and looking at the odometer; they had put 15-20 miles on it. Thought this was kind of alot for just "taking it out". Maybe they took it to lunch? 15-20 miles amounts to about a gallon of gas, almost three bucks here.
- I also asked for a quote on a scratch I had near the driver side rear tire. When I came to pick up my Ridge, she had forgotten about the quote. I had to back into the service department and find her to ask her about it.
Anyways, to summarize - I would rate the experience a C or Average. There was a lack of communication, unnecessary amount of miles put on it, and it took about 15 - 20 minutes for me to pick up my truck afterwards.

I don't often defend dealers, but in the case of a tire balance under warranty I will. Honda has made it very difficult for dealers to get paid to balance the tires or do a front end alignment.
If I posted the diagnostic process for tire balancing you would be amazed. It's really rather silly since the time to diagnose the problem would take longer than just balancing the tires.
poemteegra 02-06-2008, 07:17 PM Yeah, I didn't really mind them not balancing the tires. I think it might just be me being paranoid anyways.
But I didn't appreciate the gallon of gas I'm missing. (I know, that sounded cheap.)

Thank you for the nice compliment. I don't want to jinx anything, but we are constantly the #1 rated service department based on our customer service scores :D

I'll be sure to head over to Mission Valley next time.
I just realized if you read the postings on this thread it almost sounds like a TV ad. Haha
