They plan to produce all of them in Japan and Mexico, but the bikes produced in Mexico will be sold only in Mexico.

Even though they say that no employees will lose jobs, this is still a blow to Ohio, which is already suffering from lost jobs.

I hope this works out for your family....this economy is getting to everyone...

Doesn't this plant also employ a bunch of temporary workers in addition to the full time folks? Those temporary jobs are pretty high paying for temporary positions. This will be a blow to the central Ohio economy for sure.

And you are right Jimmy. It's affecting people who are not normally affected. I'm just thankful that it's not getting to me like others I know.

Meanwhile, Ridgeline production is moving from Canada to Alabama next year...

I agree that the Ridgeline's sales are much lower than what Honda's expectations initially were for this truck but there's no mention in this article that the Ridgeline production in Alliston will cease entirely.

How else will we be sneaking cases of Canadian Ale past the border to our American friends?

You didn't sneak anything but spiders in my RL! They went away for a few months, now they're back. :(

i heard that Honda was upset with some quality issues at the marysville plant, thats too bad that they are ending production after such along time there but its cool that they aren't getting rid of jobs.

Well, it's nice that the employees will have the opportunity to work in other Honda plants but Ohio will still lose another 450 jobs. I have never heard of quality issues at the plant but it's common knowledge, at least in Ohio, that the climate is not attractive to business due to heavy taxing and such.

Ohio is one of it's own biggest enemies due to it's taxes. I'm not surprised that Honda is pulling out one of it's plants. Just look at the other manufacturers who have left. In the last 12 months Ohio has had 93 factories close. (source: Bloomberg.com)

Ford is getting ready to close the transmission plant that is 5 miles from my house. (There goes my property values again  )

Ohio isn't a cheap place to do business.

No net job loss. The workers will be moved to other plants. Maybe one day some politicians will wake up, particularly in the Democratic party, and discover that high taxes and red tape are not good for business growth and stop blaming things on NAFTA.

No net job loss? Honda isn't going to create 450 jobs in other plants. The Marysville employees will simply be relocated due to attrition at the other facilities. Immediate net loss: 450 Ohio jobs, and that doesn't include the losses that will occur throughout the supply chain.

Ohio's politicians won't figure it out until they read about it in the history books.

there have been several gl1800 frame failures due to bad welding, it kind of gave Honda a black eye when their flagship has a major problem like that.

Too bad. I wonder how much this counted during the decision making process when considering the move back to Japan. :(

It sounds similar to the early '03 Element windshield frame weld failures coming out of the Ohio plant

Not good when your flagship and big cruiser fleet has these type of recalls:

http://www.goldwinginfo.com/gwi/news_details.php?language=EN&link=20030912

I am think about buying a trike and have been told by two different major trike companys to avoid getting a GL1800...

I personally don't believe this is a workforce issue its more of a design and or manufacturing specification flaw. Either way Honda isn't perfect...they have their fair share of issues. This one hit them hard in the PR image department as "wings" have been the defacto standard for years...

I hope Ohio doesn't go the way of NY. This is a dead state for business, has been for years and the polititians still don't have a clue
