I thought the Ridge & '07 Civic that I had were quiet at highway speeds.... they are loud in comparison. My trim Accord comes with 3 months of XM free, so I am enjoying XM41 (best channel EVER!) The V6 comes with cylinder deactivation; the changeover points are undetectable. (I just thought I would feel it) I have yet to floor it and see what it can do, but I have no doubts that this car will have no issues... cruise will be my savior!

she's purty! now, the real question is, why this sudden move to a more conservative "ride"? do we sense the influence of a certain young lady from down there in the Sunshine State?

I had a '99 Accord EX-L V6 and I loved that car more than any other vehicle I've ever had. I only got rid of it due to the second tranny in it starting to go again at 109k miles. I traded that in on the Ridge. I knew I would buy the new Accord as soon as I sat in it.

Very nice... You'll have to take me for a ride... Looks like you could use one of those goodie bag items for under your accelerator... I did get one for your RL but now I have to switch the color over for your new ride...

Nice ride Keith :) take it from me she will fly down the road.:D My wife's 07 Accord LXV6 does :D :D If I remember correctly the 08s have more HP than the 07s?
Nice ride Keith take it from me she will fly down the road. My wife's 07 Accord LXV6 does :D :D If I remember correctly the 08s have more HP than the 07s?Yea, I think an additional ~30 hp. I think I am at 200 miles MAYBE.... so a few hundred more before I light it up... maybe about the time to get to the Albany, NY meet :D
One cool thing is the cylinder deactivation. It turns off a couple of cylinders to either 4 cyl or 3 cyl based upon power needed when just cruising along. It's kinda cool as a green "ECO" displays on the dash. I feel like I am saving a couple drops of gas

Depending how long we go, I was planning our taking the after meet to one of the areas microbreweries, http://www.brownsbrewing.com/ or over into albany here http://www.evansale.com/... And right behind the dealership is a road that will let you challenge your accord... It’s twisty with lots of quick elevation changes...

...the seat fits me like a glove.
Then how do the gloves near the shifter in one of the posted photos fit? Like socks?
When they were buying a new vehicle, I recommended my parents looked at a new Accord. I love the looks of it but they didn't and wanted a vehicle with AWD. So, they ended up with a CR-V.
Where I stand now with what I can currently afford, with what my Ridgeline is worth versus what is owed, I can afford a Civic, an LX CR-V like my parents have and a few other Honda vehicles under 24,000.
One thing I think is a bit disheartening with the Ridgeline is it's poor resale value compared to other Honda models. If I'm doing better financially by the end of the year, I may trade it in before I'm head over heels with it. But, it may not be for another Ridgeline.
I just wonder and question WHY the Ridgeline doesn't have the same depreciation value (look on KBB.com) versus other Honda or Toyota vehicles.

Why did you choose the automatic?
Congrads Keith that is a sharp looking Accord good luck with it.thanks, wait until I get tint on it. I am leaning to 20% around... it'll really make it smooth.
Why did you choose the automatic?the V6 sedans only come in auto. :( Oh well, clutching for miles in traffic STINKS! In traffic, I am the guy who lets off the brake pedal and rolls up to the bunch (like 18-wheelers do. No rush, we're not going anywhere anyway.
I had a '07 Civic coupe (stick :)) and crawling to the backseat was horrible.

Is there an Accord Owners Club.com? If not, you'd be the perfect candidate to start one up ;)

There are a couple of forums I've looked at so far, but they are pretty small for the '08s. In time they will grow and be out of control. I did see a post of nice coupe with an HID kit installed.

How does the quality of the leather in your new Accord compare to that of the RL? Just did a Lexol treatment on the missus' A6 yesterday (in preparation for turning it in later this month) and was once again reminded of how thin the RL leather is in comparison to most of the other leather interior vehicles I've owned over the years. btw, got a chance to really look over the new Accord the last time I was at my dealer for service and it's come a lonnnggg way since the original - really like the new styling/features and it's definitely in the luxury class these days. Enjoy!

You have got that right!! My 1st of many Accords was a '81 4 door 5 speed. It was so under powered that when you saw a hill on the horizon you had better start down shifting. My 1st trip across Monteagle Mountain on I-24, I had to pull over and start off in 1st gear to get my RPM back. This is on a 6% grade. After many improvements the 4 banger would take it in 5th gear all the way.:) BTW, you had to get on a waiting list for Accords in the early years, no color choice, they took them off the truck in the order of the waiting list. Also all A/C units were bolt on by the dealer.

nice ride keith, and great pics too!
IMO accords hold their value better than ridgelines because:
1. they have been around longer and the reliability has been established.
2. they appeal to broader spectrum of buyers.

OTD = Out The Door .... Maybe

The overall experience feels like a luxury car but without the fluffy ride... you can feel that it can hold it's own on the back roads. (see the comparison test video in post #1)

Nice new car. As much as I love having my Ridgeline, I may be forced (thanks to gas prices, and $60 PLUS a work week for gas) to trade in my truck. If I do so, it would be for a Honda Civic LX, with only the NEEDED options.
BUT, for now I'm driving my Mom's 1998 Toyota Camry a few days a week because it gets awesome gas mileage and isn't too bad to drive either.

I had a 2007 Civic LX coupe (stick). it is a good car, but not sure if small covers it fully. You will go into shock to jump from a Ridge to a Civic. If you do make the change, I recommend the EX over the LX. well worth the costs up front as you'll enjoy the car more plus get more % back as people want EX's not LX's

My Mom's Camry is about the size the current "small" Civic is. I may go down and sit in a Civic tomorrow and test drive an automatic to see how I feel in it. I have anxiety issues with small cars after having a car accident in a Chevy Metro. I prefer the larger size of a truck, but the mileage is killing me. March is going to be a tight to next to impossible month for me so any new car purchase is likely going to have to wait until next month.
PLUS I was screwed over at work from any raise (even if it is the usual 3 to 4%) AND a bonus for my performance from 2007 that would've been on my next check. It really would've helped but I hope to squeak by this month.

K757,
Beautiful car and nice touches with the tint and de-badging. I think Honda just put a big dent in upcoming Acura TL sales with the new Accord. It will be interesting to see. The wife is already saying she wouldn't mind an Accord instead of a TL for her next ride. She keeps pointing them out on the road and asking if that is a new Accord.
If that will make her happy then so be it. Momma needs to be happy before Daddy gets to be....as the old saying goes:rolleyes:

My co-worker bought one of the remaining new '07 Accords EX-L (4 cyl) and I have been a passenger in it. The '08 Accord is many times nicer. Hard to believe, but true.

Now that I see the exhaust tips up close... they are looking like a candidate for removal. Then some high heat flat black paint ;)
No pics of this yet, but I just took off the two exhaust tips and spray painted the exhaust with a flat black, high heat paint. MUCH BETTER!
I'll likely eBay the two 2.5" exhaust tips.

Agreed. The hitch doesn't help. Too bad it isn't tucked away like the RL's Honda hitch. Probably bumper cover shape has something to do with it.

I didn't care for the OEM exhaust tips as they were too overstated for a sedan. The exhaust is tucked well under the body panels, but maybe that isn't obvious in the photos.

Chrome is for Harleys and luxo-boats like older Lincolns and Caddies. Japanese ideas of what Americans want are funny to me at times, like the column shifter in the RL. But maybe I am in the minority on this.

Nice 2008 Accord. My wife has one too, in blue (she also considered the same color you have). We traded in (2) 2006 Accords on the same day for (1) 2008 Accord and (1) 2008 Ridgeline. They both look so good when they're clean. If I were to go back to a car I think I would seriously consider the 2 Door Accord in Black. It looks really nice in person!:D
mpg update
85% highway at 5-7 mph over the limit, 62-72 mph, up and over many medium hills with cruise on
320 mi, 11.01 gal = 29 mpg
So on monday night (5/19/08) when on the way home from work and just turning into my driveway, my car was hit by a motorcycle.
the story:
I passed the crashee (speed bike motorcycle) as he was attempting to make a turn to go in my direction. The road has a 25 mph speed limit. I was well ahead of him when traffic opened up and he was able to come out and get behind me, though pretty far back for that speed limit. I saw his headlights bob up and down twice pretty quickly, so I figured he was catching up quickly. By the time I went another couple hundred feet, he had caught me. (DANG, that was fast) The road then crests and we start a slight downhill. I signal well in advance then wait about 2 seconds before hitting the brakes to gently slow for my driveway.
As I am turning in, I hear a crunch and felt the car wiggle some! I was like "holy crap, I drove over the curb!" So I stop and am about to get out then I see a motorcycle guy lying in my driveway.... WTF? where did he come from? SO I get out and go over to him. He is a bit disoriented, but is fine and stands up even though I told him to not move a couple of times. A couple of teenagers were walking across the street and called 911. So here we are looking at each other, the bike and my car. I call 911 and they already knew about it, so I hang up. Within two minutes, 3 patrol cars, a fire truck and an ambulance are blocking all traffic. I suppose a motorcycle crash call is like calling all cars.
What appeared to be the head officer in charge asked me what happened. I tell the entire story and then he asks the motorcyclist. He says exactly as I stated and that he couldn't stop in time as he locked up the back brakes. They ask for our licenses, regs and insurance for the report. He had issues as he was on motorcycle probation (or something). They towed his cycle and I was told that he received multiple tickets. It's gonna cost that 20 yr old some coin as he was the type that this won't slow him down or cause him to extra cautious.

For what it's worth, my wife had 1,700 miles on this TL when she "dinged" the back bumper. The one before she had 4,100 miles on it when she "dinged" the front bumper and had around 5,500 on the one before that when she got her 1st ding (mirror/garage encounter). Do we see a pattern here? I told her that when we signed the papers on the next one I was going to put a ding in it myself before she leaves the lot.
She never tells me about them and hopes I won't notice them. I wash the dang things and I'm not blind and it's always the same line, "I was meaning to tell you about that".:(

If you had a bumper sticker for everywhere you've been so far in the Accord alone, you'd have the whole back end covered. At least you couldn't see the scratches from the handlebars that way. ;)

You need to do a slide show of your car(s) past & present to Johnny Cash's I've Been Everywhere song. At this point, you should have a picture for every place named in the song... don't you? :D ;) :p

Keith,
I am on the verge of buying a EX L V6 with Nav this week or next. I like the your color with the lighter interior. My ridgeline with 115,000 will be used by my 16 year old daughter. My older daughter got a CRV a few months back.
I have a couple of questions.
1. In your travels did you drive in any snow. How did the accord do?
2. I am with you on the overstated chrome pipe tips. Smaller chrome would be better. How are they held on?
3. What issues if any should I check for before I take delivery?
4. Any other advice?
Thanks,
Peter

Peter, wow a 115,000 miles. I thought I was up there, just hit 80,000.
As owner of the 2006 Accord (EX-L V6, with Navi) I can tell you that handled almost as well in the snow as the RL does...probably better for the new generation of accords since they are a larger heavier vehicle.
The best advice I can give you and I am sure keith will give you is get yourself over to driveaccord.net (http://www.driveaccord.net) and check out the happy owners over there...another excellent forum just like this one.

4. Any other advice?
1) no snow so far. Picked up on March 1 and it was a very warm winter here. I expect no troubles at all.
2) They are held on with a single bolt that comes off very easily. I want to say it is a 11 mm socket to remove. I sold the tips individually on DriveAccord.net for $30 each (shipped). Not sure if that was a good price or not, but they sold pretty quick. The 4 cyl owners only need one tip.
3) Nothing I can think of.
4) The going price on Accords is ~$600 under invoice (internet price). Surprisingly, the going price on Civics is about MSRP.
A couple small mods but really make a difference: chrome rear turn signal bulbs. The turn signal area is all in silver but Honda threw in a yellow bulb. The chrome bulbs still flash orange/amber but look so much classier. The other small and easy mod, the license plate bulbs. I put in the bulbs that I had in my Ridgeline, 6-LED Super White bulbs. It gives the appearance of a higher end car by casting a slightly blue light. Here is what they look like on my ex- silver Civic:

Can't make it to Danvers. I am in Hartford CT Monday through Thursday until 2009.
Have you considered a manufacturer's buyback, as in LEMON law? If they can't fix it..........it's theirs. Hope you are documenting all of this!
Keith.....what's with the new Accord problems? 6 weeks???
k757 whaz up with the Accord?
Well, I'll sum it up in short:
Picked up on 3/1/08; current mileage: ~13,500
It's been to two dealerships and neither can solve a knocking noise, though one came close. Overall, the dealerships have had my car for (approx., not going to look it up right now) 30 days (8 visits) so far and still hove not solved it entirely. So far, a front and rear strut have been replaced and an engine mount.
The second dealership finally contacted Honda after repeated attempts to fix as they basically ran out of ideas. The service writer told me they don't know what to do. Honda emailed them a not-yet-released-TSB which involved (don't quote me on this) cutting into the rear door sills, cutting a weld, expanding a clearance gap and rewelding    Now as scary as this is, it did partially fix the problem. The noise occurs less often now, but is still present.
I am to meet with the District Service Manager next time she is in town about what is going on. If I get screwed somehow in this deal, I'll never buy another Honda. I've been Honda loyal for many years and purchased a few vehicles in the past couple of years ('98 Accord, '99 Accord, '06 Ridgeline, '07 Civic, '08 Accord) and if I get the shaft, my future monies will go to Toyota, Nissan or Subaru
Does the '08 Accord have a design flaw? I vote yeah

Wow. That sucks balls big time. It is very disgusting to see that the new Accord has such a possibly severe problem, and that Honda's reputation for quality could've slipped that much.
I'd say if you left Honda, to reconsider Toyota's recent change in quality. The new Tundra has had some transmission and engine (with the new 5.7L V8) problems. The new Camry has had some issues, too, especially with the hybrid version. It is scary to say, but GM has had better initial quality with some of their newer vehicles then Honda or Toyota. Some.
For example, some new 2007 and 2008 CR-V owners have had rear differential issues and other issues too. No new vehicle, it seems, is immune to problems of some kind. I've become resourceful and I've fixed some of my own rattles and the "smaller" things I could.
Again, sorry to hear about your troubles.

Keith, did the dealers let on that any other 08 Accord owners are experiencing this knock? Sounds like a weird and hard to diagnose problem......at least Honda is acknowledging the noise and making an effort to fix it.
Japanese automakers IMO, have really slipped overall lately. My 06 Toyota Tacoma had some glaring faults, which were common to owners on the forum and the dealer "never heard of them".
Let's hope you get your new car back to where it should have been when you bought it..........or exchange it for one that's quiet??!! Good luck.

K757 what do you expect the way you drive and the amount of mileage you put on it in such a short period of time, all the mods you did before the ink was dry on your sales paperwork.....only kidding.:D Honda should stand behind their vehicle no if and of or buts. Two co-workers each bought 07 Oddessys one had water spots that would not clean off with buffing and polishing, he went through you know what to get it taken care of short of taking them to court. The other guy had a roof leak, second time in the dealership to get it fixed and they traded him out to another new Oddessy. Now the water spot owner has a strong bully type personality. The other guy calm and cool.
Hope you get it fixed or replaced. :)

My Honda Case Manager called me yesterday to tell me that the Honda factory district rep is to call me by wed. to set up an appt with her. She wants to see the car and have a discussion with me.

That is unreal to have that kind of problem with an Accord!! The Accord is the premier Honda vehicle that actually put Honda on the map in the USA. We finally got 25 MPG out of our "4 Cyl EX-L" last week. Out of 12 Accords by far the worst ever MPG. Maybe that is why we only have 5,500 miles in 11 months+!!:D

Well, 25YHO, the Law of Averages says that whatever can happen will. As many people as I know who've owned Accords (including a half dozen that I've had), it was bound to have happened to somebody.
I'm sorry it had to happen to Keith. The current Accord is the first since 1985 that I don't think I'd want to own.

Same here; since 1981 I have had minimal problems. This '08 took 4 trips to get the front end alignment and balance cured. Figure that at 100 miles round trip each trip. Honda needs to get back to their old quality product!! Hope they are reading this!! I may be looking at Nissan next time as they are only 20 miles away!! BTW; Nissan is the only profit maker during August!!
If I am fortunate enough to be offered cash value towards another Honda/Acura vehicle. I can't see an Accord being the answer, though the Accord V6 coupe 6-speed manual sounds interesting.

I would have gone with Acura in lieu of the 08 Accord with the following exceptions: The TSX I loved but too small in relation to the Accord. Did not want the turbo in the RDX. Having to use high test fuel in all Acura's sucks.:(

had a similar deal with my vw(06 Jetta TDI) being in the shop. 59 days today and they tell me its fixed. No consolation offered to me for being with out my car for 59 days and paying about 30 a month in personal property tax and how ever much a month for insurance. No loaner offered either. When I went up to check on it the other day I found 1 new and 1 used mugen si (weird to see 2 within 3 blocks of each other especially out here!), im going to go try and make a deal on the new one tomorrow. they seemed pretty motivated to sell it, and to help me resolve the clear coat issue on my ridge. Im really impressed with the civic and love driving the si. good luck with whatever you decide.

Coming up on 3,000 miles trouble free with my white ex-l v6 nav. I like it. I still look forward to driving the ridgeline on weekends. I have been getting almost 26 mph. I am hoping that the mileage improves with my first oil change to mobil 1. The only issue I had was the radio going out. I restarted the car and it came back.

Yep, C & D pegged it around $42K for a fully loaded one and as you noted Acura isn't even calling it a Type S.......yet.

The Camry has no sporting qualities whatsoever - even if they put a silly spoiler on the trunk. So it was perfectly OK to not include it in that test.

Hmmm....I think the Accord has significantly better handling than the soft Camry. The Accord is no BMW but it corners flatter and is firmer on bumps.
No Honda sedan will ever be in the top list of sports sedans until they produce a RWD car or design them to understeer less. SH-AWD is a step in the right direction.

I have a 2003 EX V6 Coupe, has 132,000 miles on it, & it's been a great car. I just bought a ridgeline too and when i added the custom grille to it, they gave me a loaner 2008 V6 EX to drive (cloth seats). I was so impressed with the get up and go! That 268 hp accord absolutely flew! It was just as fast as my old Cadillac SLS. I loved driving it...when I stepped on the gas and went from 30 to 85, it was awesome. The accords aren't perfect for me though.
I do not like how if you get an EXL, you have to have the chrome door handles, I don't like those. I also, hate the rims. They need to have much better rims on these new accords, it seems like they only have 1 fugly option. Besides those 2 things, I think it is great. I love how it is bigger than the old accords and much, much more powerful. It's a damn race car, perfect for a traveling salesman like me who needs to get to meetings on time. :)

:)Oh yeah, the car can move out. But getting the EX is a waste if you spend time in the car, especially when living in the north, the leather seat's seat heaters are like gold!
You can get the body color handles and change them out yourself. Also, there are many Honda-family wheels that will be a straight swap with the '08+ Accord 17" wheels: Acura TSX, Acura TL, Honda Civic Si, Civic 17" HFP. Now if you want to get 18" or 19" wheels, Honda sells '08 Accord HFP wheels in those sizes as well.

wow, pretty helpful post. I didn't think of the interchangable wheels like that nor did I think of changing the handles. I do prefer OEM wheels that are a little better looking than the 1 option they have for these accords though.
Since I just bought the Ridge I am not in the new car market. I'm using the ridge for business trips under 1 hour and the accord for business trips over 1 hour. I want to try to get 200k out of my current accord. I just replaced the timing belt for the first time at 130k. I am going to put some brand new michelins on it and it will be good as new.
Also, for the EX, I found the heating control to be annoying compared to the EXL. It's just a knob, not A digital display in the EX.
Either way, I am really impressed with how fast that thing was. I think they put so much pop in it so it would compete with the camry. It handled & performed outstanding. Too bad I have no extra space in the driveway.
I recently changed to the Silverstar Ultra low beams and Luminics Krypton JDM Yellow fog lights.
Spam if you like, but I like 'em.
(excuse the fuzzy photos as I shot them quick and it was raining)
