soultrain 03-26-2008, 03:07 PM I was on fumes yesterday and filled up and this is the most I've ever paid for a tank of gas...20.075 gallons @ $3.39 and no relief in site..I was skeptical of the claimed 21 gallon tank until now..Previously I had only put 18 gallons max. My commute is not bad only 20 miles each way. I hope my relationship with my RL continues but if gas reaches $4 mark I will be buzzing around in a Honda Fit soon.
Why does everything that feels so good have to hurt so bad...
25 Year Honda Owner 03-26-2008, 03:20 PM A friend run a local neighborhood maket about a mile from me. Sunday an out of state trucker saw his diesel price of $3.699 and pulled in to fill up. He gave my friend $800 for pre pay and said that should be adequate. He managed to get $798 of diesel into his tanks. Now you know why every thing else we buy cost so much. So goes diesel fuel so goes prices!!:( Never fear, congress is worried about steriods. Maybe they will get to the economy before we are all broke!!
My last fill up was $100.00 even.:(
I'll get about 420 km on that. That's less than 270 miles. :( :(
I knew there was a reason I haven't bothered to calculate my MPG.

Don't worry...Congress is also worried that the Patriots got away with video taping pregame warmups:rolleyes: Here comes the ethanol...oh wait...that's not a viable or prudent option either....I'll just take public transportation...oh wait ...our pub. transports not pratical...I'm screwed. :( :o

$800 / $3.70 = 216 gallons
That same amount of gas would have cost him $65 more in my neck of the woods. It's all a ripoff and we are all doomed to be trapped without a voice in what happens.
Oil has doubled in the last year because someone is speculating in the market. There is no other reason. Everything you hear on the news is BS. Every time I hear something about the price of a barrel of oil on TV anymore, I turn the channel.

I would love to pay only $68 for a full tank of gas.
psychodave 03-26-2008, 05:11 PM I spent $50 the other day...first time I ever spent that much on gas at one time. It is what it is. I have a bigger problem with taxes. For what my wife and I paid in taxes for 2007, we could have bought 4 new RTL's outright and had change left over:confused: .

The main reason is the fall of the dollar. The Fed is trying their best to do something about that. Reducing spending would be better.

We are in a catch 22 right now. The price of gas and the subprime mortgage mess are all intertwined. Lower the interest rate to stimulate the housing market & the economy and gas goes up because the dollar devalues. It's all bull$hit. (I know that you already know this.)
I don't know why I even waste my keystrokes on this subject. Nothing I ever say or do will ever change anything. The only way out of this is for everyone here to start driving busted up 87' Geo Metros. Maybe then demand will go down enough so that those who are sucking us dry will cut us a little slack.

Be careful how you vote!! Seems like all, Demo and Republican must be living off the lobbyist. Seems to be that way all the way down through congress, state houses, and city government. As usual the guy that is paying his on way is screwed!!

You forgot that when the dollar drops, commodities go up, and the stock market drops :D
The growth in demand for petroleum products is being driven significantly by the industrialization of previously third world countries. But you knew that. I've faced it already. My kids are screwed.

You got that right, Bozos wasting money and having public funded meetings to talk about steriods and Spygate in the NFL. What a waste of time and taxpayer dollars. Who gives a flip about these high paid crybabies. We need someone to be more concerned about real people with real lives and normal paying jobs.
Mtnman 03-27-2008, 03:32 AM The oil co.s wont be happy until we're paying the same as they have been in Europe. You also might want to take note that most of the major oil co.s are no longer U.S. owned. Give some thought also that the EU and the euro were not only created for the solidarity of Europe, but to challenge the dominance of dollar.
pipedown 03-27-2008, 10:56 AM My first fill up on my new RTL almost just over a week ago was 80 bucks... So "ouch" is right... Last night I filled up my tank that was just under half a tank and it was 53 bucks... Gas is now 4 bucks a gallon in the LA area.

larryr 03-27-2008, 01:21 PM We had an answer in the 50's for most of the oil consumption but only the US navy uses it. Nuclear Power - the Savanna proved it could work. The big cruise ships and container ships use 33% of the oil in the US and electric generation another 15%.
There are safe designs for reactors. But when congress gets involved - practical get put aside for profit. Last year the earth cooled 1.5 degrees Celcius. ( and we blame fossel fuels ) Sunspots ( or lack of ) causes temperture change on earth - so do volcanoes - Mt St Helens released as much CO2 as all gasoline burned from 1950 - 1990. So congress will probably ban volcanoes as a cure. Too bad only Idiots get elected to Congress.
Too bad Ignorance is not painful.
I took 3 years of Nuclear Engineering before I switched to Electrical Engineering (only because I saw no job opportunities other than the US navy )
It is sad to say the stupid French do more with Nuclear Power then the US and Canada do.
CJames 03-27-2008, 05:16 PM It's their "Right" to charge us as much as they want.
That's capitalizme.
What we need to do is find a way to get say ... 50 miles to a galin.
Or 100 if that's doable.
I tried one of those chips and no joy.
Anyone know of any After Market gizmos that will REALLY improve the milage???

There really isn't a "magic gizmo" for the RL that would make the gas mileage much better. Proper tire pressure, altered driving habits, proper maintenance, and maybe a scanguage so you can monitor and "self check." Jet does a reflash, but I'm not sure if it improved gas mileage.

I was watching a show the other night about the Tokyo Auto Show. It was discussing how 50+MPG in Japan is much more the norm, and how they (the Japanese market) go for "cute, small, quirky, colorful" cars (ala Pokemon if you will). They showed footage of mobs of people trying to get looks at these little one person cars (could literally put one in the back of the RL) in bizarre color schemes (reminded me of oversized easter eggs) and at the exact same show NOT ONE person was looking at the super sexy latest BMW or Aston Martin (the one in the last James Bond movie I think). They just don't go for it over there.
Point being - if we want 50+MPG cars, we as a society would have to reevaluate what we think cars are for, how they should look and what we do with them.

Wow that seem cheap! My average fill-up is $75-$82 CDN (which is $70-79 US to $76-$83US depending on the day of the week and who is blowing up or whatever)
We are expecting gas prices to rise dramatically during the upcoming "driving season" As much as 30 cents a liter or about a buck a gallon...ouch.
My wife does have a Honda Fit so I guess I will get some relief

150 miles round trip to work and back 5 days a week, plus running around on the weekends.
I work close to Chicago, but would never want to live there, so I live out in the country where I can have a bit of property, and peace and quiet, we have done the commute for a couple of years now and it isnt too bad, about an hour each way.

Saw a documentary on PBS. "Frontline - B***sh** War". I think it can be watched in it's entirety on pbs.org (IIRC)
Best, most well-done one I've seen in awhile.
It answered alot of my questions about wtf is goin'on.
And in a waiting room, for a friend... I read "It's Better to Rent, Than Own Your Home" in USNewsandWR. Where do they get this stuff?
But hey. "They" are working on it.
My last fill-up... I dunno... the "new gold" receipts are in the cardholder under the relaxing armrest, but it was around $48... That's more than a carton of smokes. A reason to become healthier -To be happier! Go for a ride! Who needs Healthcare!?
davedad 03-29-2008, 08:51 AM Tanked up yesterday with a half a tank left, it cost about 35 dollars, gas prices in wny are still around $3.40/GAL. I am starting to think like the large oil companies. They raise there prices to say$3.00/ gal and blame something like the war or a hurricane, the public feels that ok we need to pay that amount. after awhile the oil companies raise the prices again to $3.30/gal for the same reasons hold at that price for awhile then drop the price by two cents, the public feels they are getting a bargain, suddenly the oil companies make another excuse and raise the prices another .30/gal. It doesn't seem as much of an increase due to the fact that they just lowered the price. Lately around here anyway it seems they raise the price by say.20/gal for a few weeks then lower it by.03/gal a couple of weeks later. As the oil companies get richer we the general public get poorer.
craig anderson 03-29-2008, 09:51 AM Yesterday, here in Dallas area, I put in $60.60 when the light came on in my RTX. I have heard of possible highway blockage by independent truckers on 4/1????? If we keep buying from Communist China, they will bid the price of fuel to ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????? Anyone out there heard of an add-on CNG for the Ridge. The City of Dallas has had all CNG Civics for several years. I drove one for Dallas Fire Department and had the same get-up-and-go as my sons 1999 gas Civic. You can also get a home Phill compressor to install in your residence and fill at night.
