frankdatank 03-27-2008, 10:16 AM Just got back my registration for my RL. I bought in Ohio and brought it back here. Well I got some sticker along with the registration. No I am not talking about the plate sticker. I guess it is a truck class sticker. Does anyone else have this on their truck. Mine is in class 2, because the truck weights 6050lbs.... I haven't seen these on other trucks and was just wondering.
MikeT 03-27-2008, 10:50 AM THe Ridgeline weighs ~4550lbs, not 6000lbs. The GVWR is somewhere around 6500lbs. I think someone may have made a mistake. I would call and get clarification as to what the weight rating is that requires that additional sticker.
frankdatank 03-27-2008, 11:18 AM Thanks, yeah the title that OH sent me had the weight at 6050, which I had to turn over to PA for registration. I sure its gonna be a hassle to get this all straighted out.. ohh well.
Pizza Man 03-27-2008, 11:53 AM Frank, I'm titled in Pa. the same as a car. I pay $36, not the $58 they charge for trucks.
Rick Walker 03-27-2008, 12:28 PM Actually the correct cost of yearly registration renewal for the Ridgeline is $81.00.
Check out the chart at http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/mv_forms/mv-70s.pdf.
Here's a snapshot of the pricing for a Class 2 vehicle, which is based on registered gross weight of the vehicle. The registered gross weight of the Ridgeline is 6051.

PizzaMan - You must have a friend in Pennsylvania! :D
frankdatank 03-27-2008, 12:42 PM Ok so I guess everything is ok. I paid around $80.
Rick Walker 03-27-2008, 12:47 PM Here's a thread from someone who transfered from Ohio last year that actually did have a problem with the registration pricing.

Pizza Man 03-27-2008, 01:07 PM PizzaMan - You must have a friend in Pennsylvania! :D
I purchased my RL in NJ. I'm guessing it was the dealer that made the error when he did the Pa registration. Good for me! :D
Actually, one of my daughters works part time for Liberty Tags here in town. Seriously, she had nothing to do with the registration, though.
Rick Walker 03-27-2008, 01:12 PM I think you must have bought one of those Ridgelines that's not a REAL truck! :D
shovelhd 03-27-2008, 01:15 PM Actually, one of my daughters works part time for Liberty Tags here in town. Seriously, she had nothing to do with the registration, though.
Tell it to the judge :)
Pizza Man 03-27-2008, 01:20 PM I think you must have bought one of those Ridgelines that's not a REAL truck! :D
My God, don't tell me that!
Tell it to the judge :)
What's the penalty for something like that??
Oh Wait, I know.... NO PIZZA FOR YOU, SIX MONTHS!

Truly a fate worse than death.
Pizza Man 03-27-2008, 01:32 PM Truly a fate worse than death.
And if you saw what I look like, you'll truly understand why!
RRIDER 03-27-2008, 03:08 PM Ohio only goes by the truck weight if you want commercial truck tags. For a non commercial truck, registration cost me $59.50, and the BMV considers the Ridgeline a half ton pick up. I have had non com tags on every truck i've owned. The price of registering a car is $44.50
I just took a look at my Ohio Title...there is no mention of weight.
These prices can also vary by the County you live in.
I have just paid my registration last month - $58.50. I have been Class I since I bought it in May 05.
StoneRidge07 03-29-2008, 06:30 AM I live in Lehigh Valley PA and I have to pay for the Class II on mine $81 but my friend lives right up the road and also owns a ridgeline and he pays the car registration price? Man, how unfair. I will have to ask my buddy who is a honda tech up in Wilkes Barre why they seem to do this ??? or what the reasoning is? Maybe its just plain old confusion lol?

John, does your plate say truck on it?
I think mine must have registered as an SUV.
StoneRidge07 03-29-2008, 06:45 AM Yeah it says truck on it so does my buddies. But his has no Class II sticker. When he told me this I always wondered why?

Next time I talk to my daughter, I'll ask and report back to this thread. If my registration is legal it would save you about $45/year. So it may pay to reregister the vehicle.
StoneRidge07 03-29-2008, 07:07 AM Thanks for the help on this issue. I could always use the extra cash if it is the other way around lol. Especially with everything and I mean everything going up in price.
Rick Walker 03-29-2008, 09:16 AM I hear ya Stone! I could stand keeping a few dollars in my pocket.
I guess the question comes down to - How does PA define "Registered Gross Weight"? If they mean unloaded weight of the vehicle, then (by PENNDOT definition) we're driving a car not a truck.
Hey, it's a car when I want it to be a car and a truck when I want it to be a truck. And to save a few bucks, I'm OK with it being a car at registration renewal time. Actually I have my renewal form right here as it's coming due for me. So this would be a great time to make a change. I've got my fingers crossed Pizza Man!:D
StoneRidge07 03-29-2008, 02:23 PM As I went up toward wilkes barre, PA today I spotted 3 ridges without Class II sticker on. I think this question needs to definitly be answered.
MikeT 03-29-2008, 05:07 PM Here in Texas, my Ridgeline's weight is classified as 4000lbs with a cargo capacity of 1000lbs resulting in a gross vehicle weight of 5000lbs and a rating of a 1/2 ton vehicle. It is classifies as a truck as well.
Cost $62 to register.

Sounds like preferential treatment!! Not jealous, proud for you!! Move to Tennessee, think it is $24!!
wrenrj1 03-29-2008, 07:40 PM Ok so I guess everything is ok. I paid around $80.
I'm hoping I pay ALOT less than you for insurance on the RL, because next month my taxes/registration are going to cost about $500.00 in Nebraska!
I purchased my RL in NJ. I'm guessing it was the dealer that made the error when he did the Pa registration. Good for me! :D
Just looked at my "window sticker"...
says PORT OF ENTRY: BUFFALO
DELIVERY POINT: JERSEY
and my dealer had to get it from a dealer in ERIE.
Maybe the paperwork is getting "skewed" a bit in JERSEY?
As I went up toward wilkes barre, PA today I spotted 3 ridges without Class II sticker on. I think this question needs to definitly be answered.
Mine is registered 5000 gross, 4433 unladen, Class 1 : $58.50/yr
I can see PennDOT trying to retro-charge those that had mistakes made during their initial registrations that resulted in less revenue, but do you honestly think they'd refund any overpayments?
So... Shhhhhhhhhh..........;) Zip it! :D
Pizza Man 03-30-2008, 06:48 PM I just talked to my daughter, the one that works for Liberty Auto Tags. She mentioned some trucks have options that can be used when registering. I didn't understand this and told her so. I asked if she would either get me a copy of the Pa Registration Code where these "options" are mentioned or at least a link to it.
The one thing she did say is PennDot would have rejected my registration if it didn't comply.
I don't want to state what she said because I can't explain it. Her next work day is Tuesday, hopefully I'll have more info then.
spons 03-31-2008, 01:20 PM This is my experience with PA Titling. I purchesed my Ridgeline in May of 2007. On my documents I paid the 58.50 registration fee. I recently received my registration renewal which was again $58.50. However, when I got my registration card this time it indicates class 2 on the registration card itself, my previous registration indicated class 1. So now I can only imagine next year I will have to renew as a class 2 and pay the $81.00 fee. PA Ridge owners check your registration card to see if this happened to you. I guess Gov. Spendell needs the extra money.
Pizza Man 03-31-2008, 01:35 PM I just checked my registration form. My RL, believe it or not, is listed as Type SW. Station Wagon!!! Go figure. That explains my $36/year fee.
My daughter (she handles Pa Registrations) is off today and returns to work tomorrow. She promises to have something for me to post tomorrow evening.
Rick Walker 03-31-2008, 03:49 PM Your Ridgeline is a station wagon...
How embarrassing :o :o :o

She's here in Fairless Hills tonight.
And, I'm on the ROC! :D ;)
mdwalls 03-31-2008, 07:59 PM Some choice ! A muslum that won't salute the flag and a wife that lets her husband get BJ's at work. WAIT ! she 's OK with me.
mdwalls 04-01-2008, 04:39 AM Oh ! Titling, I thought you said titilating. :)
StoneRidge07 04-02-2008, 08:59 PM A station wagon? huh.............. That is amazing one big station wagon! lol

Hey Pizza Man - Were you able to get any clarification from your daughter about how much we (those of us who don't have Station Wagon Ridgelines :o :o ) should be paying for PA registration?
Pizza Man 04-03-2008, 08:11 PM Yes Rick, just a little bit ago. My station wagon classification is obviously wrong. No one in their office can explain how I'm getting away with that classification. Pa trucks are classed according to Gross Vehicle Weight, that puts the Ridgeline in the $81.00 bracket as a Class 2 truck.
However, some seem to be classed by the Unladen Vehicle Weight making them Class 1 @58.00/yr. Again, no reasonable explanation.
I read the post you referenced in an earlier thread where the weight of passengers and a tank of gas was added to the Gross Vehicle Weight. That would bring us to a Class 3, but just barely.
I now have her checking specifically about those add ons.
Rick Walker 04-03-2008, 09:43 PM I have my bill sitting here for this year's registration for $81 as a Class 2 vehicle. I was hoping to do the station wagon modification and save a few bucks, but I guess I may as well just break out the checkbook...
Thanks for checking this, and pass a big ROC thanks along to your daughter! :D
John, does your plate say truck on it?
I think mine must have registered as an SUV.
I think this might be the difference... my plates say TRUCK on it... of course my brother-in-law (Chevy fan) asked he how much for the custom plates...
StoneRidge07 04-08-2008, 07:55 PM Thanks for getting down to the bottom of this. It is great to know we can always have someone assist in these simple questions.........:D
frankdatank 04-21-2008, 08:37 AM How long after you receive your registration do you have to get a car inspected? Again, I bought my car out of state and got my registration back from the state about 3 weeks ago. Well I haven't gotten in to get inspected. Got pulled over by a local cowboy and said that he saw I didn't have any inspection stickers. Actually made this whole big deal out of it, he was going the opposite way of me, in an unmarked car-- but easy to spot. He pulls this fast U Turn and flys down a city road with his lights and crap on. Anyways back to the story. I actually had an appointment for Monday to get it done but he didnt care. Wrote me a citation for no inspection.. I admit that I shouldn't have waited so long after I got my paperwork back, I thought that since I had that temp paper that was dated out until May that I had all that time to get it done. anyone know what the "fine" might be?? He didn't write it in....
Pizza Man 04-21-2008, 08:54 AM Hi Frank, I don't know the rules specifically. I do know if you're dealing with a local munincipality you may be able to go back to the Police Station and show them the new inspection stickers and talk yourself out of the citation.
Usually, a local cop will give you a few days to get the work done before you get nailed with a fine. Especially, if you plead the new vehicle case. I would think you have at least 30 days after you receive your plates to get the inspections done.
Use your charm on them. ;)
frankdatank 04-21-2008, 09:01 AM Yeah I have a ton of that! Actually I have a secret weapon. My fiance' is a school teacher and she has had the magistrates kids in her class. So I am dragging her in to get a break!

Bringing in the big guns..... nice! :D
How long after you receive your registration do you have to get a car inspected? ....
10 days.
PA CODE - inspection FAQ (table of contents) (http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/067/chapter175/chap175toc.html)
Good luck.
§ 175.8. Newly-purchased vehicles.
(a) Vehicles without valid certificate of inspection. A vehicle which does not display a valid certificate of inspection at the time of sale, resale or entry into this Commonwealth shall be inspected within 10 days of sale, resale or entry into this Commonwealth, whichever occurs later. The inspection shall be coordinated with the staggered registration system regardless of the date of a previous inspection in this or another jurisdiction.
(b) Vehicles with valid certificate of inspection. A vehicle which displays a valid certificate of inspection at the time of sale or resale may be driven until the inspection certificate expires.
frankdatank 04-24-2008, 12:55 PM Well went to the magistrate yesterday. Didn't even get to talk to the guy. Office was packed with people waiting to see him. Had to set up a trial date to take care of this crap. The fine is $108, thought about pleading guilty until she told me it was that much. Can't believe how ridiculous this is.... Freakin local cops with nothing better to do. There's a bank robbery in the next town over and he is worried about my inspection... Ohh Well..
Pizza Man 04-24-2008, 01:16 PM Well went to the magistrate yesterday. Didn't even get to talk to the guy.
I would have gone and talked to the Police Chief. How big is the town you're dealing with? I live in a small Pa town and the cops are always accessible.

Yeah... on this side of the river, it's become a regular "Dodge City", eh?
Hope you weren't wearin' a straw hat to keep the sun outta yer eyes... :p

The Chief would probably have been busy picking-up discarded "Hillary" campaign paraphernalia after her recent victory... aka "policing the area" in these parts. ;)
Frank, what "temp paper" (dated 'til May) were you speaking of? Seems that would be your best defense. Good luck.
frankdatank 04-24-2008, 03:02 PM Yeah the temp paper is that thing dated about 3 months after you go to the notary. you have to put it in your rear window.. Crazy stuff going on up in New Ken, just up the road from us... We will see what happens, just sucks gotta take more time off work for this junk...
